Although Martin Scorsese is more commonly associated with movies than TV, he was involved with an HBO period drama that ran for five seasons between 2010 and 2014 and the show has been acknowledged criminally little since it ended a decade ago. Granted, Martin Scorsese's TV projects are more numerous than just the show in question, but running for five seasons makes it the director's most successful foray into the medium by far. Martin Scorsese's iconic camera shots are often what can stick out most in his projects, but many other elements combine to create his stories.
Not every Martin Scorsese movie has been a hit, and not all of them have remained in the zeitgeist as much as some of his more legendary efforts, like 1976's Taxi Driver or 1990's GoodFellas. Regardless, he is one of the most influential and best directors of all time and has already gone down in...

Jimmy Kimmel had Seth Meyers on his show last month, and now Meyers is repaying the favor.
For the first time ever, Jimmy Kimmel will appear as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers next Monday, May 13th.
Kimmel has plenty of projects to promote. In addition to Jimmy Kimmel Live, he’s an executive producer on the Hulu reality series High Times, and he’ll host the newly revived celebrity primetime edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire this summer.
Plus, with Kimmel’s recent mention in former President Donald Trump’s ongoing criminal trial, one imagines the two will have a lot to talk about.
The pair appearing on each other’s shows comes after last year’s Strike Force Five podcast solidified bonds between each of the five major late-night hosts: Kimmel, Meyers, John Oliver, Jimmy Fallon, and Stephen Colbert.

In 1969, the mysterious Tom Forçade insinuated himself into the top echelons of countercultural politics by taking control of the Underground Press Syndicate, a coalition of anti-establishment newspapers across the country. Wiry and manic, Forcade wore a black hat and refused to have his face photographed. Weathering government surveillance and harassment, the First Amendment warrior embarked on a landmark court battle to obtain press credentials for the Nixon White House. But simultaneously, his audacious exploits of the early 1970s—pieing Congressional panelists, stealing presidential portraits, and picking fights with other activists...

High Times is preparing to go public later this year with a valuation of $250 million — the same amount Jeff Bezos paid for the Washington Post in 2013. There’s no guessing whether the Post has gone up or down in value since 2013, but it may well have climbed given its skyrocketing web traffic and subscription growth since Donald Trump became president. High Times focuses on a different type of hard — or smooth — hitting journalism, but could also get higher. In terms of value, we mean. High Times CEO Adam Levin acquired the business earlier this year, when...

When you're Lakeith Stanfield and you happen to play a guy like Darius, the pothead-philosopher of FX's Atlanta – and not just play him, but turn a hit show's comic-relief role into the sort of weirdly relatable oddball that becomes an instant fan-favorite – it's natural that complete strangers would want to get you high. At the club, in a mall, walking down the street – doesn't matter. "The funny thing is, they assume I smoke," the 25-year-old actor says of the show's fans. "And you know, I don't. But yeah, I get a lot of offers.

Less than a week after revealing he's sober for the first time in eight years, Pete Davidson made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Live over the weekend. The 23-year-old comedian joined "Weekend Update" and poked fun at himself while giving his first impressions of a few personalities in the Trump administration, such as Paul Ryan. "All the Republicans wanted Paul Ryan to come up with something to replace Obamacare, and now that he did, everybody hates it," he explained. "I know what this is like because for years, people have been asking me to quit drugs and get sober. And now that I have, everyone thinks I'm unfunny and boring." Pete also commemorated his return on Instagram, posting two photos from the show and captioning one, "I'm all smiles." Need to catch up? Check out the previous This Is Us recap.
How tense are things between Randall and Kevin going into this week’s This Is Us? Let’s just say that the brothers’ adult relationship ranks somewhere between “Trump and Clinton voters forced to share a rush-hour pedicab” and “you and your disapproving mother-in-law trapped in an elevator after she suggested you take the stairs.”
But that pales in comparison to what’s simmering between Kate and Toby in the present storyline and Jack and Rebecca in the past. The hour, on the whole, is a little sleepy.

It's a little weird seeing Oscar nominee James Franco play a local Louisiana druglord named Gator in the latest Jason Statham movie, "Homefront" (though admittedly not much weirder than watching him play a grill-wearing Florida gangster named Alien in last year's "Spring Breakers"). Nothing against Franco, but High Times' 2008 "Stoner of the Year" isn't exactly the most intimidating foe for a walking action movie like Statham.
Still, a little weird can be a good thing, and thanks to Franco's gonzo villain, "Homefront" ends up being a lot more entertaining than Statham's last few solo projects. From a screenplay originally written by (and for) Sylvester Stallone, the movie stars Statham as Phil Broker, a former DEA agent who moves to rural Louisiana with his young daughter after the death of his wife, and unwittingly starts a blood feud with Franco's Gator Bodine, Raysville, Louisiana's very own meth kingpin.

Environmentalist. Cannabis spokesperson. Playwright. Vegan. Cannabis enjoyer. Woody Harrelson is a complex individual and a multifaceted presence on screen, his roles running the range of clean-cut cowboy to cold-blooded killer. But no matter who he's playing there always seems to be a lingering essence of the real Woody, and that's why he rules.
This week sees the former TV star getting "Cheers" for his role as a stage-magician-cum-bank-robber in "Now You See Me" and this November he'll reprise the part of Haymitch Abernathy in his first-ever sequel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." We're stoking the fires of Woody worship as we pay tribute to our favorite High Times cover boy with nine of his quintessential roles.
9. 'A Scanner Darkly' (2006)
There's no denying the essential Woodiness of stoner dude Ernie Luckman in Richard Linklater's rotoscope animated take on one of Philip K. Dick's most grounded and personal novels.

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider wants to remind Republicans that gun-loving Ted Nugent reportedly once dodged the Vietnam draft in quite possibly the grossest way imaginable.
During an interview with Noisecreep, Snider broached the subject of Nugent's recent comments on President Barack Obama's gun control proposal and Second Amendment rights. Snider, an Obama supporter, wanted to remind Republicans that the Detroit native did not always put his country first. In fact, Snider said, Nugent dodged the Vietnam draft by reportedly vomiting and defecating on himself and failing the physical exam.
Via Noisecreeper:
Ted's always been a gun-toting conservative. But what gets me is that he was actually a draft dodger! I mean, to the point where he didn't bathe for a week, and vomited on himself to deliberately avoid the draft. I totally understand why he did that, but all of these Republicans who love Ted don't seem to...

Olivia Culpo scored the 2012 Miss Universe crown, but she might not be handed the title of High Times' "Stoner of the Year" anytime soon.
Culpo confirmed her stance against marijuana legalization for recreational use during an interview with "Fox & Friends" on Thursday.
"I think that for medical purposes it is okay," said the former Miss USA, "but I don't think that it's good for recreational purposes. There's just too many bad habits that go with the drug."
"When people get all potted up," interjected co-host Steve Doocy, who made headlines for such phrasing when discussing marijuana legalization on the Fox News channel.
During a recent chat with HuffPost Live, the 20-year-old Miss Universe discussed marijuana legalization.
"I think that pot, marijuana for medical purposes is understandable, but I don't think that it should be legalized for recreational purposes because it has been proven to prevent people from their full potential,...

What does it mean to be cool? It's pretty damn subjective. So when compiling our list of the 25 coolest people making movies right now (somebody had to do it, right?), we accounted for various factors.
These are the actors who not only impress us onscreen (though that helps), but convey a certain genuineness off it, be it at awards shows, on TV appearances or during our own personal experiences interviewing them. They can be multi-talents, also excelling at music, art or writing. And they can make a habit of turning up in hilarious viral videos or even at your local karaoke bar.
But most of all, these are the 25 actors we'd really just like to sit down and have a beer with.
Welcome to NextMovie's 1st annual Cool List – and let us know who makes your own list in the comments section below.

Did Tj’s nadir teach the Barrish bunch nothing? This week on Political Animals, as the former First Family waited for the fallen son to wake from his overdose, Margaret and Annie got stoned, Doug and Susan got drunk (and then got busy), and Elaine and Bud were high on power. Here’s what happened in the USA Network series’ penultimate episode.
Flying High | Fresh off Tj’s Od at his nightclub opening, Elaine & Co. swung into damage control mode, inviting Susan Berg to pen a piece on the “adverse reaction” Tj had to some “antibiotics.” Susan (smartly) wasn’t buying a word of it,...

Los Angeles — Oliver Stone has smoked great marijuana all over the world, from Vietnam and Thailand to Jamaica and South Sudan. But the filmmaker says the best weed is made in the USA and that pot could be a huge growth industry for taxpayers if it were legalized.
Stone, whose drug-war thriller "Savages" opens Friday, has been a regular toker since his days as an infantryman in Vietnam in the late 1960s and knows a good herb when he inhales one. He insisted in a recent interview that no one is producing better stuff now than U.S. growers.
"There's good weed everywhere in the world, but my God, these Americans are brilliant," said Stone, 65, who sees only benefits from legalizing marijuana. "It can be done. It can be done legally, safely, healthy, and it can be taxed and the government can pay for education and stuff like that. Also,...

Last night on Late Night, Channing Tatum dressed in drag. Plus: Stephen Colbert picked on Aaron Sorkin for his characters' bombast — "The person that's saying it is just an expression of you, but up on a mountain, but is it Moses up on the mountaintop or is it Aaron Sorkin on his own pile of bullshit?" Also, Oliver Stone addressed his High Times magazine cover — "No, of course [it's] not" real marijuana he's smoking, Stone declared with a knowing smile; and Rhys Ifans, in his early theater-production training days, left Jesus Christ hanging. Watch our compilation to see what you missed.

Given his much-publicized distaste for Sacramento, it's good to see that Gavin Newsom is finding ways to keep himself busy.
On his Current TV chat show this week, our Lieutenant Governor took part in an enlightening conversation with cinematic auteur Oliver Stone about where we might find the stankiest buds on the face of God's green earth.
Spoiler Alert: The answer is California.
"We have the best weed in the world; I'm telling you from my own experience of 40 years," said Stone, who stopped by the show to promote his new film "Savages." "Vietnamese weed, Thai weed, Jamaican weed, Sudanese weed, it's all great stuff. But, because Americans are so technically minded (like mad chemists), they've taken Afghan seeds from the Afghan War, which is the hypothesis of the movie, and rededicated themselves and made the finest seeds in the world, the finest grass you can smoke."
