The harem anime genre is one of the medium’s most heavily disliked and commonly dismissed — and plenty of criticisms aimed at harem anime are far from unfounded. All harem anime follow the basic premise of a group of attractive girls falling for the same male lead, presenting the viewers with a self-indulgent fantasy that rarely pretends to be more than that.
Female characters in harem anime are usually archetypical and regularly exploited for fanservice, unique development and nuanced personalities not being common features of harem plots. However, plenty of harem anime actually recognize the heroines as the beating heart of any harem storyline and treat them with the respect and appreciation they deserve. In these harem anime, female characters are more than just eye candy and, for once, get treated as multifaceted people with traits outside of their attraction to the protagonist.

When anime fans watch a show, they will have some general expectations about how the male and female characters will act and think. While there is plenty of room for nuance and variety, the trends still hold true, with boys being competitive and action-oriented, while girls are more interested in deep emotional connections and cooperation. Still, there are some anime girls who seriously bend or even shatter the conventional rules of femininity.
Some anime girls are subversive in their design because they contradict standard norms of how girls act and think, while other anime girls are subversive in more unique ways. In certain cases, anime girls will bend the rules of not just femininity, but other archetypes or roles too, making each of them a refreshing breath of air in any anime. These subversive anime girls aren't content to be generic eye candy or token love interests, because they have a few surprises in store.

While watching Japanese anime is great fun, adding color and movement to the original manga's material, something may be lost along the way. A surprising number of anime series will fail to adapt all the material, either by skipping some scenes or arcs to reach the ending sooner, or by stopping before the ending even happens. In either case, anime-only fans aren't getting the whole story, which may lead to an unsatisfying watch.
A combination of complete and ongoing anime series fit this category, and in the former case, reading the source manga is the only way to finish the whole story. In the latter case, an anime might get future season to continue or finish the story, but fans might not want to wait that long. Whether or not future seasons of the anime are confirmed, it may still be a good idea to complete the story in manga...

For the sake of comedy and to make its protagonist flawed, the new Ranma 1/2 anime made Ranma Saotome a punk hero with a serious attitude problem, just like in the original manga. Ranma isn't a full-blown antihero, since he also has good side and will fight hard to protect the best girl Akane Tendo, but he still has a juvenile and prickly disposition. Ranma constantly teases and mocks almost everyone around them, even when they try being nice to him, and it infuriates Akane to no end.
Ranma is a bit of a jerk who's conceited and liable to make fun of people, but even with that attitude, anime fans could still do worse. There are a handful of anime protagonists or supporting heroes who have even worse attitudes, sometimes skirting the line between hero and antagonist. Some of them are like that by nature, while others have a...

Look Back ’s anime film adaptation continues to draw praise from critics and viewers while more and more theaters across Japan pick up the movie. This has pushed the adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga to over 1 billion yen on Monday, July 16, – a standout amount for such a theatrically limited release – with nearly 600,000 tickets sold! In just 18 days, Look Back has made 1,017,961,780 yen (US$6.41 million) on the back of 599,731 tickets purchased, making it one of the fastest films to reach that number with such a limited number of theaters showing the movie. Since opening in 119 theaters, that number has increased to over 165 with more planning to show the 59-minute flick over the next few weeks. Look Back ’s Japanese theatrical run could be compared with 2022’s The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie , which opened in one less theater than Look Back and continued to collect more screens throughout the year. Many romance series in anime give the best characters their well-deserved happily ever after. Finding true love and forming a strong, healthy relationship with a dream partner is the goal, and most romance anime protagonists accomplish it by the end. However, other characters in these romance anime series aren't so fortunate, and true love slips between their fingers.
For one reason or another, these wonderful romance anime characters couldn't ride off into the sunset with their beloved, even if they are good people who deserved that kind of happy ending. Some of these characters failed to form a loving relationship at all, while others had a relationship but couldn't make it last. Despite these failings—or perhaps because of them—many heartbroken anime characters deserve another shot at finding love.

Some grudges never die. I should know, too, cause I just sat through the first trailer for Truth or Double Dare, which pushes this point home with bloody conviction. If you like to mix your scares with a touch of class, then this horror thriller was tailor made for you.
Loud Films is proud to present the official trailer and poster for Truth or Double Dare. It will be coming to Amazon Prime starting November 20. And it's got everything a growing horror lover needs. A little bit of vitamin D, a bunch of potentially naked co-eds, and some good old slice and dice gore. Who could ask for more, especially with Halloween over for the year?
Care to play a game of Todd? Available a couple of Tuesdays from now, Truth or Double Dare follows four friends, Claudia, Egypt, Alex and Rashad, as they return to their hometown for their high school reunion.

[In case you've Forgotten, and as I will continue to mention each and every one of these posts that I do: This is *not* a review. Pilots change. Sometimes a lot. Often for the better. Sometimes for the worse. But they change. Actual reviews will be coming in September and perhaps October (and maybe midseason in some cases). This is, however, a brief gut reaction to not-for-air pilots. I know some people will be all "These are reviews." If you've read me, you've read my reviews and you know this isn't what they look like.] Show: "Marry Me" (NBC) The Pitch: "From the guy who would have brought you 'Happy Endings' if you'd watched and a star you'd remember from 'Happy Endings,' if you'd watched, comes a show that's a lot like 'Happy Endings,' not that you know what that means." Quick Response: If you'll recall, "Happy Endings" was a pilot about a gal leaving a guy at the altar and then that was never really what the show was about ever again, even if people sometimes mentioned it. Similarly, "Marry Me" seems like it's a pilot about a couple who have an unfortunate time getting their engagement right, but all signs point to a series that's an ensemble about the couple, but also their friends and families. And "Happy Endings" wasn't -- sorry, I know it's unpopular to say anything mean about "Happy Endings" -- a very good pilot.

Okay, let's go.Episode 9, "Smashed" Tobias seems to have learned his lesson. Instead of going with therapist + analyst = analrapist, he decides on "theralyst" instead. Smart. Who's the guy in theralyst Fünke's therapy group with his face blurred? Emmett Richter (played by Andy Richter). As we first saw in season three's "S.O.B.s," camera-shy Emmett is one of Andy Richter's four brothers and a co-star in the short-lived sitcom Quintuplets. In case you forgot.

DVD Rating: 5.0/5.0 Chicago – When I hear about shows that were “brilliant-but-canceled” one of the first series that comes to mind is the great “Andy Richter Controls the Universe”. Developing a cult following through cable repeats over the years, the complete series has been one of the most requested-but-unavailable titles since the show left the air over five years ago. Andy fans, your day has finally come. Rejoice.
“Andy Richter Controls the Universe” never had a chance. This quirky, clever workplace comedy with a great ensemble and some of the best half-hour TV writing of the ’00s might have worked on cable but just didn’t click with Fox audiences. Andy Richter has bad TV karma, moving on to two more failed sitcoms - “Quintuplets” and “Andy Barker, P.I.” - after this one before recently announcing that he was re-joining Conan O’Brien as the announcer for “The Tonight Show...

Fox, which has been looking to bring back the family comedy genre with a twist, is developing "The New McToms," a hybrid multi- and single-camera half-hour executive produced by Salma Hayek.
Fox has a track record of success with that sort of show, having scored with the multicamera "Married ... With Children" and the single-camera "Malcolm in the Middle."
Written by Boyce Bugliari and Jamie McLaughlin, "McToms" centers on a conservative matriarch who must face the reality of her three children marrying ethnically diverse spouses.
ABC Studios, where Hayek's Ventanarosa has an overall deal, is producing the project. Bugliari, McLaughlin, Hayek and her producing partner Pepe Tamez are executive producing the project, which has received a script commitment from the network.
"McToms" carries the trademark ethnic flavor seen in most projects on Hayek's TV slate, including the ABC dramedy "Ugly Betty," which she executive produces.

NBC, Fox split win on slow Wednesday

NBC and Fox split the nightly victory on a sluggish Wednesday all around for the Big Four broadcasters in primetime. Fox's That '70s Show opened its eighth season by winning its 8 p.m. time slot in the key adults 18-49 demographic but with less potent numbers than it averaged last season. Still, "70s" delivered the highest demo score of the night with a 7.7 million viewers and 3.9 rating/13 share in adults 18-49, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Fox's fledgling 8:30 p.m. comedy Quintuplets (6.2 million, 3.1/9) had a harder time hanging on to its "70s" lead-in than it did in its initial run this summer but still won its slot in the demo.

Fox shows signs of 'Life' in 18-49 demo Wed.
Fox showed some spunk on a lackluster Wednesday in primetime with its fledgling sitcom Quintuplets and The Simple Life 2: Road Trip. Quintuplets brought in 6.2 million viewers and 3.3 rating/11 share in the adults 18-49 demographic at 8:30 p.m., holding firm to its healthy (by summer standards) lead-in from a That '70s Show repeat (6.1 million, 3.3/12), according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. At 9 p.m., Simple Life 2 (9.1 million, 4.6/11) delivered the night's highest 18-49 demo score, but the mantle of most-watched show went to NBC's 10 p.m. Law & Order (10.5 million, 3.6/10) encore. CBS did reasonable business with its 9-10 p.m. sitcom repeats, The King of Queens (7 million, 2.2/7) and Two and a Half Men (7.7 million, 2.6/7) and 10 p.m. newsmagazine 48 Hours Investigates (8.1 million, 2.5/7). ABC was sluggish all around with sitcoms capped by 10 p.m.'s summer reality entry The Ultimate Love Test (3.6 million, 1.7/5). For the night, Fox won by a comfortable margin in adults 18-49 (3.5/11) but ranked No. 3 in total viewers (6.8 million). CBS held on to No. 1 in total viewers (7.8 million, 2.2/7) followed by NBC (7.5 million, 2.6/8).

Fox high-fives its 'Quintuplets'

Fox Broadcasting Co. has given a full-season pickup to its new sitcom Quintuplets, sources said. The comedy starring Andy Richter as the father of 15-year-old quintuplets has been a steady performer for the network since its debut last month as part of Fox's ambitious effort to move to a year-round programming cycle. Representatives for Fox and Quintuplets producers 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV declined comment, but sources said Fox was poised to announce that the family comedy has received an order for nine additional episodes. Quintuplets has shown promise for Fox during the past six weeks in the Wednesday 8:30 p.m. slot by consistently holding or building on its lead-in, the 8 p.m. That '70s Show rerun, in key teen and young adult demographics. Quintuplets is the first of the four scripted series on Fox's June season schedule to earn a full-season pickup.

'Life' good for Fox Wednesday
The Simple Life 2: Road Trip kept Fox on top of the adults 18-49 standings on what was a ho-hum Wednesday in primetime overall for the Big Four networks. Fox's 9 p.m. reality tentpole brought in 9.5 million viewers and 4.6 rating/14 share in the adults 18-49 demo. That was enough to give Fox the nightly win in the demo (3.2/10) by a comfortable margin. But once again Simple Life's 9:30 p.m. companion Method & Red did a poor job of holding onto its lead-in, plunging to 5.7 million viewers and 2.6/8 in 18-49. Fox's other new comedy, 8:30 p.m.'s Quintuplets (5.9 million, 2.8/9), by contrast, held steady with its lead-in, the 8 p.m. That '70s Show repeat (6 million, 2.8/10).

Fox deliberates 'Jury' future

The case of Fox's new series The Jury moved closer to a dismissal Thursday when the network scaled down the struggling legal drama's airings and the producing studio, 20th Century Fox TV, released the cast and notified the producers that no more original episodes will be produced at this time. On Fox's summer schedule, original episodes of The Jury ran in the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot, with encores airing at 9 p.m. Fridays. Beginning next week, the series will air only in the Friday slot, with all five remaining original episodes slated to run. In the next three weeks, Fox will air reruns of The Bernie Mac Show and Method & Red, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game and repeats of That '70s Show and Quintuplets in the Tuesday 9 p.m. period. While the return of The Jury to Fox's November schedule is highly unlikely, a spokesman for the network stressed that Fox's late-fall launch provides a long enough hiatus to allow for the show to resume production should it show ratings improvements in the next few weeks.

'Simple Life 2,' Fox strong in demos
Fox was sitting pretty on Wednesday with The Simple Life 2: Road Trip, which led the network to the nightly win in the adults 18-49 demographic against mostly rerun competition. Simple Life 2 brought in an average of 9.2 million viewers and 4.4 rating/14 share in the adults 18-49 demographic at 9 p.m., according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Simple Life delivered by far the highest demo score of any program of the night but NBC's regular 10 p.m. repeat of Law & Order (10.7 million, 3.4/10) was the most-watched program overall. Fox also got a little good news at 8:30 p.m. when new sitcom Quintuplets (5.9 million, 2.8/10) inched up from its That '70s Show repeat (5.3 million, 2.5/9) lead-in at 8 p.m. But the news was not so good at 9:30 p.m. as Fox's other new summer sitcom, Method & Red (5.9 million, 2.7/8), took a big dive from its Simple Life 2 lead-in.

Fox wins 18-49 on Wed. with 'Simple' plan
Fox won a second consecutive Wednesday in adults 18-49 on the strength of the reality comedy The Simple Life 2: Road Trip, but this time it barely edged out NBC, which was the most watched network for the night. Without the benefit of a Simple Life lead-in this week, the new comedy Quintuplets (5.5 million, 2.7/9) at 8:30 p.m. was down 23% in 18-49 from its premiere but held on to 93% of its demo lead-in from a That '70s Show rerun (5.4 million, 2.9/10). At 9 p.m., Simple Life (9.1 million, 4.7/14) was once again the top program for the night in 18-49, while the second episode of Method & Red (6.2 million, 3.0/9) retained a so-so 64% of the Simple Life 18-49 average. For the night, Fox averaged 6.6 million viewers and a 3.3/11 in 18-49, according to preliminary Nielsen data. NBC, which aired the T.H.E.M. magic special and reruns for Law & Order, logged 10 million viewers and a 3.2/10. CBS (7 million, 2.0/6) and ABC (4.9 million, 2.0/6) finished tied in 18-49.

'Simple' strategy at Fox
Fox did solid summertime business Wednesday with the return of The Simple Life and debut of the comedies Quintuplets and Method & Red. Fox won the night in adults 18-49 (4.1 rating/13 share) on the strength of the 9 p.m. debut of The Simple Life 2: Road Trip (9.8 million viewers, 4.9/15 in 18-49), according to Nielsen Media Research. A Simple Life 2 preview (8.3 million, 4.0/15) at 8 p.m. also dominated its time slot in adults 18-49, which gave a good start to Quintuplets (7.1 million, 3.5/12) at 8:30 p.m. At 9:30 p.m., Method & Red (8.3 million, 3.9/11) benefited from its Simple lead-in and managed to improve slightly in Simple's score in the teen demo (Simple's 4.7/19 to Method's 5.1/19).
