He might’ve been a hippie, but he didn’t pull punches. George Harrison dismissed Paul McCartney’s band Wings as a Beatles redux. Meanwhile, Paul said the group was underrated.
George Harrison said fans who wanted to hear The Beatles in the 1970s listen to Wings
During a 1974 interview with Rolling Stone, George said he didn’t just want to repeat what The Beatles did. “I certainly am going to control my own concept of me,” he explained. “Gandhi says ‘Create and preserve the image of your choice.’ The image of my choice is not Beatle George. If they want to do that they can go and see Wings, then. Why live in the past? Be here now and now, whether you like me or not, this is what I am.”
George then discussed his expectations of life and the expectations people had of him. “I don’t have control over anything,...

John Lennon revealed what he thought of Paul McCartney’s band, Wings, as well as a specific song by the band. He also explained what his relationship with Paul was like after The Beatles broke up. Paul also discussed his opinion on Wings and how they have been compared to the Fab Four.
John Lennon explained what he admired about Paul McCartney and Wings
During a 1980 interview from the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, John discussed his feelings about Paul’s post-Beatles career. “I kind of admire the way Paul started back from scratch, forming a new band and playing in small dance halls, because that’s what he wanted to do with The Beatles — he wanted us to go back to the dance halls and experience that again,” he said. “But I didn’t … that was one of the problems,...

Paul McCartney said one John Lennon album made him competitive. He also said one of his songs made John feel competitive. Here’s a look at what John said about the tune publicly.
All the former Beatles released albums in the same year
1970 was an important year for the former Beatles. Paul released McCartney, sometimes called McCartney I, George Harrison released All Things Must Pass, John released John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, and Ringo Starr released Sentimental Journey. During a 2020 interview with Uncut, Paul was asked if he kept up with the other Beatles when they released solo albums in 1970.
“Yeah, I think we all listened to each other’s stuff,” Paul replied. “There was bitterness at the end of The Beatles, so we weren’t ringing each other up a lot. But then it gradually got better. It got better with all of them. I think we all just...

In 1980, John Lennon said he wasn’t interested in what the other Beatles were doing but that didn’t make him “callous.” Despite his words, he called a Paul McCartney song “a good piece of work.” The song’s music video had Paul looking to The Beatles’ past.
John Lennon felt 1 Paul McCartney song made him sound depressed
During a 1980 interview from the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, John discussed his former bandmates. “I don’t follow what they do now,” he admitted. “Somebody asked me what I thought of Paul’s last album and I made some remark like I thought he was depressed and sad. But then I realized I hadn’t listened to the whole damn thing.” The album in question was McCartney II, Paul’s venture into electronic music.

Contains spoilers for Neighbours.
Last year’s announcement that Neighbours was ending prompted the return of its prodigal children. Not just the on-screen ones journeying to Ramsay Street to reunite with lost loves/burn down Lassiters/marry Paul Robinson, but also us – the Aussie soap’s lapsed viewers. We came back too, sticking one last hopeful hand into the cookie jar of nostalgia, hoping to feel… well, anything.
The only problem: Neighbours was unrecognisable. There was no Helen Daniels and Bouncer had long retired to the big farm in the sky. If you’d drifted away at some point between the third Lucy Robinson and the plane crash that turned Harold Bishop into the Erinsborough strangler, then this is for you. Here’s a handy guide to Neighbours’ current plots and characters. Never ask ‘Who’s Paige? again.

Paul McCartney was saddened when John Lennon compared him to another popular singer. However, the comparison doesn’t work at all. Notably, this comparison came from John’s era of edgy trash-talking.
Paul McCartney hated John Lennon comparing him to Engelbert Humperdinck
In the 1970s, John was as known for his digs as he was for his music. For example, in the 1971 book Lennon Remembers, John criticizes all the other Beatles, Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, Orson Welles, Frank Zappa, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, and so many others.
During a 1974 interview with Rolling Stone, Paul said he didn’t like everything John did, however, he kept his mouth shut. “I mean, he came out with all stuff like I’m like Engelbert Humperdinck,” Paul recalled. “I know he doesn’t really think that.”
Paul was asked what he thought about John’s comments. “Oh, I hated it,” he recalled. “You can imagine,...

In 1996, the British band Suede – or The London Suede as they’re known in the United States, thanks to a trademark lawsuit – released their third album, “Coming Up”, which opened with the song “Trash”. A catchy, breezy anthem for the downtrodden trying to find love and excitement in monotonous or outright dirty environments, “Trash” posits the potential for rebellion and individuality in stale English suburbia, where bonds of solidarity can form among people drawn to each other due to shared outsider status: “But we’re trash, you and me/ We’re the litter on the breeze/ We’re the lovers on the street.”
With its motif concerning garbage on the street, “Trash” could have been an all-too obvious needle drop in “Hoard”, a (mostly) mid-90s period piece set in the exact sort of humdrum British milieu evoked by Suede, with literal refuse playing a major part in the strange...

John Lennon wrote a prolific number of songs in his time with The Beatles and his solo career. He won seven Grammys and picked up even more nominations. Despite all this success, Lennon constantly worried his well of creativity was drying up. According to one of his closest friends, Lennon dealt with lingering paranoia that he would never write another good song.
John Lennon worried that writer’s block would keep him from writing another song
Lennon met his friend Pete Shotton at school, and they remained close for life. Lennon bounced song ideas off of Shotton. As a result, Shotton had an intimate view of Lennon’s songwriting process. He admitted that doubt played a significant role in Lennon’s creative life. He only wrote when he felt inspiration or if he was facing down a Beatles deadline. Often, he dealt with writer’s block while trying to stay on schedule.

Most music fans wouldn’t confuse Paul McCartney and Wham!. Paul and The Beatles turned down $250 million to reunite in the 1970s; we’re certain Wham! never entertained that kind of payday to get back together. Still, there are some similarities between the two artists. They were both successful, but for a short stretch in 1984, one Wham! song kept Paul from reaching No. 1 on the charts.

Some of Paul’s most successful solo songs came in the 1980s. The disco/new-wave hybrid “Coming Up,” his Stevie Wonder collaboration “Ebony and Ivory,” and “Say Say Say” (featuring Michael Jackson) were all massive hits.
That was just the tip of the iceberg.

Paul McCartney’s most influential music came with The Beatles, but he never stopped writing songs. His ex-wife Heather Mills foolishly trolled Paul for working with Rihanna and Kanye West and totally missed the mark. His work beyond The Beatles has been nearly as successful. Let’s look at the five most successful Paul solo songs.
Note: We ranked Paul’s solo songs based on weeks atop the Billboard singles chart, not total weeks on the chart. Wings’ songs appear as Macca was the primary songwriter on those hits.

Macca’s 1982 collaboration with Stevie Wonder got banned in South Africa but became a rousing success in the United States. The tune spent seven weeks at No. 1 during its 19-week stay on the singles chart.

Paul McCartney loves writing optimistic songs, but he loves it even more when he can write a song that makes him hopeful, not just fans. Here are five songs that made Paul optimistic.
Paul McCartney | Ian Dickson/Getty Images 5. ‘Great Day’
In The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that his song “Great Day” made him feel optimistic following The Beatles’ split. After the group’s split, Paul would often sit around in a rut. It was a dark time for him. However, he found the track’s chords while sitting in his kitchen with his children.
“I liked the idea of a song saying that help is coming and there’s a bright light on the horizon,” Paul wrote. “I’ve got absolutely no evidence for this, but I like to believe it. It helps to lift my spirits, to move me forward, and hopefully it might help other people move forward too.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon started writing songs together when they were teenagers. They had many influences and musical heroes that they admired. Sometimes the work of those artists appeared in The Beatles’ music in a subtle or not-so-subtle way. However, according to John, it wasn’t exactly stealing.

In his 91-year life, prolific composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim crafted some of Broadway’s most iconic tunes. From “West Side Story” to “Into the Woods,” his music has stood the test of time and cemented him as a theater legend. The Broadway community paid tribute to Sondheim on Friday, with longtime collaborator Bernadette Peters writing, “He gave me so much to sing about. I loved him dearly and will miss him so much. Thank you for all the gifts you gave the world Steve.”
Meanwhile, Rachel Zegler, who plays Maria in the upcoming Steven Spielberg adaptation of “West Side Story,” recalled Sondheim’s profound impact on her love for musical theater. “Sweeney Todd was the first musical I ever comprehended. 5 years old, dancing around to ‘A Little Priest’ without knowing what it was about. When Ron and Russell Mael, the two brothers who make up the cult band Sparks, were young, their father would take them to the movies every Saturday. He was a commercial and fine artist who didn’t bother timing these weekly excursions to any showing’s start time, and whatever film they were seeing was usually already playing by the time the family took their seats. Similarly, no matter where you start Edgar Wright’s documentary The Sparks Brothers, it’s like coming into a movie after it’s begun. This is brilliant, but you can’t exactly credit the director. It’s the subject.
According to the documentary, Sparks was the “best British group to ever come out of America.” You can look them up on Wikipedia and learn nothing. Everyone thinks they’re identical twins, but they weren’t even born in the same sunny California town. Sparks...

Paul McCartney discussed the creation of his new album, McCartney III, and shared a handful of Beatles memories in an interview with Zane Lowe that will air in full on his Apple Music 1 show Monday, December 21st, at 12 p.m. Et/9 a.m. Pt.
McCartney made his new album while in lockdown — or as he called it, genius that he is, “rock-down” — after finishing up some music for an animated film. The musician said he was enjoying himself so much in the studio that he set about finishing old songs and writing new ones.

Every decade should kick off with a Paul McCartney one-man-band album — and this one needs it more than most. McCartney III carries on his tradition of homemade solo records, in the mode of his acoustic 1970 debut and his 1980 synth-pop oddity McCartney II. Like its two predecessors, it’s Macca at his most playful. He’s not sweating about being a legend, a genius, or a Beatle — just a family man kicking back in quarantine, writing a few songs to keep his juices flowing. Like the rest of us, he’s been in lockdown,...

We’re just days away from the release of Paul McCartney’s new LP McCartney III. Much like the original McCartney album in 1970 and McCartney II in 1980, Paul produced the new LP himself and plays all the instruments.
“I’m very lucky because I have a studio that’s, like, 20 minutes away from where I live,” McCartney told Taylor Swift as part of their recent Rolling Stone Musicians on Musicians chat. “We were in lockdown on a farm, a sheep farm with my daughter Mary and her four kids and her husband.

After nearly a decade with Wings, in 1979, Paul McCartney decided to make a record for himself, by himself, as he’d done with his first solo album, 1970’s McCartney. So he retreated to his Scotland farm with a bunch of synthesizers and bleeped and blooped his way into one of his most subversive albums, McCartney II, a record that — even 40 years after it came out, on May 16th, 1980 — Macca fans are still trying to make sense of.

Set during July 1940, the story opens with 12-year-old evacuee Lydia walking through a village in rural England on a baking hot day. She is wearing a gas mask. The shops and houses are empty, windows boarded up and the village seemingly deserted. Leaving it behind, she arrives at a large house by the marshes – the house she grew up in. Lydia finds it empty too and her family gone.
Late that night comes Heiden (Bell), a soldier, gun in hand and heralding a full-blown German invasion.

A Stranger Things Motown medley, a Riverdale parody and a Daily Show reunion represented just a few of our favorite moments from the year in late-night TV.
TVLine’s picks for the 20 best clips — from Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live and others — also include Conan O’Brien’s awkward car ride with Tom Cruise and a Donald Trump impersonator that runs circles around SNL‘s Alec Baldwin.
In an effort to acknowledge late-night’s ability to make us laugh and think, the following selection encompasses both political and apolitical bits.

The year will change, the holidays will come and go, but you can take comfort in one constant: On TV, skin is always in.
And to celebrate the abundance of small-screen lovin’ (or, at least, lustin’) over the past 12 months, we’ve assembled a collection of the sexiest moments from your favorite shows.

Our selections also include a few heart-rate-spiking kisses, as well as a pajama dance party and a nookie near-miss. When TV is good, it’s very, very good. And when it’s bad, it makes you wonder, “Who the heck greenlit this dreck in the first place?”
Now that we’ve highlighted the year’s best dramas and comedies, TVLine’s Year in Review is moving on to 2017’s worst small-screen offerings. Our picks all disappointed in one way or another — or several! — and turned viewings into a punishment rather than a delight. A man who survived last month’s Las Vegas concert shooting that killed 58 people has reportedly died in a hit-and-run.
Roy McClellan’s widow, Denise, told Ksnv that her husband was killed while hitchhiking on Nov. 17. He was hit by a car in Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
“I’m angry. I’m angry. I feel that he was under the influence of something or drunk and didn’t want to get caught, so he bailed and left my husband laying there in the street,” Denise said. “He doesn’t deserve that.”

The McU is a hive mind. That is, a majority of its entries can come off as flavorless exercises in staying “on brand” at the expense of identity and aesthetic. The desire to assimilate each film into the broader strokes of Kevin Feige’s ongoing theatrical TV show results in risk aversion and a lack of narrative identity — hell, I don’t even know what a “Russo Brothers film” looks like. These are press releases stretched to over two hours, and disguised as movies.
Few directors’ ambitions have survived the churning machine of the studio’s world-building. They fizzle out, get sacrificed at the altar of the McU’s greater connective tissue, or arrive with promise but no follow through. In this landscape, it’s rare to get the kind of unabashed silliness Taika Waititi delivers with Thor: Ragnarok. Joe Johnston infused Captain America with Old Hollywood sentiment. Shane Black...

West is an arrogant young medical student who believes he’s unlocked the secret to reanimating dead tissue, thanks to his glowing-green liquid known as “Re-Agent”. “This house is clean.”
Poltergeist (1982) plays midnights this weekend (October 6th and 7th) at the Tivoli as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series. Tickets are $8.
Poltergeist had all the hallmarks of the Spielberg blockbuster production – a small-town suburban family setting, fantastic special effects, fast-paced action and a liberal smattering of Spielberg’s own brand of natural humor. Rumors have persisted for decades that he wrested the direction away from credited director Tobe Hooper, but the influence and style of Hooper are also evident and, rather than detracting from the considerable input of Spielberg, they complement it in a way which results in a movie of subtle originality.
Poltergeist is fun, extremely well-made, and is packed full of terrific scares. It took the opposite approach from normal; there’s no big old spooky house or gruesome back-story of some patriarch walling people up in the tower. By contrast,...

After last year’s three-Oscar haul for “Moonlight,” including Best Picture, A24 wants to prove that was no anomaly. Here’s what the rising young distributor will push this awards season. (Remember: A year ago, “Moonlight” wasn’t viewed as a likely Best Picture contender — much less the big winner.)
Co-founded by David Fenkel, John Hodges, and Daniel Katz, A24 is known for edgy arthouse pleasers that eschew conventional storytelling. “Moonlight” was the company’s first original production; its other box office players include Oscar-winners “Ex Machina,” “Room,” and “Amy,” and smart horror flick “The Witch.” But none have passed the $27 million box office earned by “Moonlight.”

Hey, "Bold And The Beautiful" fans. Welcome to a brand new week. Today's episode was brutal for Bill with the confirmation that Brooke is definitely walking out on him! But, it sounds like Bill will be back to business in tomorrow's Tuesday, September 26,2017 episode. We got a couple of new teasers from the folks over at TV Guide. The weekend's new releases fell shy of Mojo's weekend forecast, but Kingsman: The Golden Circle still managed to debut larger than the original, finishing in the #1 spot. Unfortunately, The Lego Ninjago Film fell well short of expectations as did Friend Request, which delivered a mere $2.4 million opening. There were, however, some bright spots among limited release titles as Battle of the Sexes and Victoria and Abdul delivered strong opening results as September's calendar grosses continue to pace toward record heights. Topping the box office was Fox's Kingsman: The Golden Circle, delivering an estimated $39 million from 4,003 theaters. The opening improves on the $36.2 million opening for the first film, but the film's performance over the next couple of weeks will tell the true story. The first Kingsman turned its $36 million debut into a $128 million domestic run, a 3.54x multiplier. Should Golden Circle follow suit we're talking about a $138+ million domestic run, which...

For the second year in a row, the Best Actress Oscar race looks more competitive than Best Actor. Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman could score for her canny schoolmarm in Sofia Coppola’s Civil War drama “The Beguiled,” while Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan (“An Education”) is superb as a southern farmer’s wife in Dee Rees’ Sundance hit “Mudbound” (Netflix).
