New owner has high hopes for 'Rupert Bear' property
LONDON -- Children's character licensing company Entertainment Rights said Monday it has acquired a majority interest in classic British kids property Rupert Bear from newspaper group Express Newspapers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Entertainment Rights plans to revamp the character and build new shows and properties around Rupert Bear and his friends from Nutwood Forrest. Under terms of the deal, it has picked up in perpetuity worldwide audio visual, licensing and merchandising, publishing, live events and new media rights to Rupert Bear, while the newspaper group will continue to publish Rupert Bear comic strips in some of its papers.
