On Freeform’s Dead of Summer, which follows the eerie goings-on at a summer camp that has seen better (or far worse?) days, the lovely Elizabeth Mitchell surely is playing the responsible, reliable adult, right?
Er, maybe not.

As seen during the premiere of the freshman series (airing Tuesdays at 9/8c), which featured at least one dead body, an extremely suspicious fire and multiple false alarms, Camp Stillwater’s owner, Deb Carpenter, at one point unearthed a mysterious box from the middle of the forest, which she then spirited away to her room.

We’re two weeks into Pretty Little Liars‘ seventh season and, let’s be honest, we’re no closer to knowing A.D.’s identity than we were three months ago when that familiar-looking lunatic first arrived on the scene.

The double-episode Season 2 premiere of CBS’ Zoo on Tuesday night averaged 5.1 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating (per finals), up 7 percent in audience from its freshman finale (4.8 mil/0.9) but hitting a series low in the demo. (The bit of summertime escapism in Season 1 averaged 6.4 mil and a 1.1, after debuting to 8.2 mil/1.2.)

Alison pulled a Princess Leia on Tuesday’s Pretty Little Liars, sending a desperate plea — albeit via phone, rather than droid — to her only hope, Emily.

Er, a Home Alone film that won't even call itself Home Alone 5? This doesn't bode well - does it?
Spoilers lie ahead.
You could be forgiven for thinking that Home Alone 4 was the pitiful last gasp of once-majestic franchise. But time heals all wounds, including (apparently) fatal ones. Ten years after Home Alone 4, someone willed the series back to life. And this time they were determined not to squander the lingering goodwill that anyone might feel for the series.
The good news is that, over 20 years since the original was made, many of the kids who watched Home Alone now have kids of their own. And do you know what Gen Y adults like? Anything they remember from their childhoods. So it is that in the wake of Transformers, GI Joe and My Little Pony, we find ourselves the audience for a new Home Alone.

The first Home Alone film to skip cinemas. Home Alone 4, though, had problems on its hands. Not least recasting the original roles...
Spoilers lie ahead.
I’m not familiar with what happened to the Home Alone rights between 1997 and 2002, but it’s fair to say that – a decade on from the original – anyone remotely interested in watching a Home Alone sequel will have moved on to whatever older teenagers were into back in 2002. MP3 players and Chemsex or whatever. But surely there’s always a fresh stream of children who might want to revel in the action and comedy of a Home Alone movie? Well, no. But there might just be enough people keen enough to watch it on TV under the mistaken belief that the name represented any badge of quality.
So it was that we ended up with Home Alone 4: Taking Back The House.

Readers, can you believe that Home Alone 2 – crappy though it was – did box office almost as high as the first? Sure you can, because you probably saw them both in the cinema. A third movie was inevitable.
But times change. By 1997, the world was no longer high off the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the freeing of Nelson Mandela, and Macaulay Culkin had quit the acting biz to become… whatever he became. The optimistic kids that dragged their parents to Home Alones 1 and 2 had become cynical, jaded teenagers uninteresting the continuing adventures of Kevin McCallister. What the franchise needed was a new hero. A new star. A new child star for America, and the world, to clasp to its collective bosom.

Spoilers lie ahead.
If any film needed a sequel, it was Home Alone. I don’t mean needed in the sense that it was culturally necessary, but financially? You’d have to be an idiot not to have rushed it into production. Made for $18 million, the first Home Alone made almost half a billion dollars. Even a fraction of that success would mean a fresh yacht for everyone involved.
This follow-up to the original movie was the only one to bring back Macaulay Culkin, and dropped right in the middle of Culkamania. His childhood movie career would be over just two years later, but when Lost In New York came out it was the pre-teen equivalent of a new Star Wars movie. In the...

The first Home Alone movie remains the best. Here's the case as to why...
Spoilers lie ahead.
Compile a list of archetypical Christmas movies and sooner or later, you’ll have to put Home Alone on it. Whether you love or hate the film that made Macaulay Culkin a one-man cultural trainwreck, you have to admit that the basic concept – lone kid fends off attackers using household goods – is about as perfect a children’s movie as you can conceive. A mixture of wish-fulfilment and slapstick comedy, it’s a premise that’s virtually built to be done again and again.
Clearly someone agrees with this, because there have been four further Home Alone movies since the first was released in 1990. I know, because I was asked to watch them all and report back for Den of Geek. And I’ve done it. I’ve stared into the abyss,...

U.S. distribution may still elude writer/director Joe Cornish's British sci-fi movie Attack the Block, but excellent online reviews and an ongoing stream of promotional items do not. A trailer was released around the time of the South by Southwest Festival, with a poster was released last month. Now, Empire has released two, new preview clips from the movie.
Produced by Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World writer/director Edgar Wright, Attack the Block follows a group of South London kids who stumble across an alien, kill it, and then have to defend their neighborhood against the aliens who seek revenge. The first clip, First Kill, show the kids' first encounter with the alien, and then in the second clip, Peep Hole, an alien attack once the kids are back in their apartment building.

One of the most-buzzed about films coming out of SXSW was Joe Cornish‘s Attach the Block. The sci-fi/horror/adventure/comedy had an La screening last night and today, Empire unveiled two new clips. Produced by Edgar Wright, the film stars Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, John Boyega, Simon Howard, Franz Drameh, and Leeon Jones.
Early rumors suggested that a Us distributor may want to subtitle the film, but as you can see in these first clips, that would be absolutely ridiculous. After seeing this preview, I can’t wait to check out the film. Cornish seems to definitely carry the Wright vibe of mixing thrills and comedy effectively. See the clips below and the trailer here if you have yet to.

Synopsis:
Attack the Block is a fast, funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters.

Love At First Kill is certainly an interesting movie, if a bit too familiar upon first impression. Love At First Kill keeps the viewer engaged with an involving mystery that keeps viewers wondering as to what new plot development is going to unfold or what is lurking behind the facade of its characters, even if all seems a bit too predictable at the beginning. The film's mystery is accentuated by atmospheric photography and suspenseful set pieces. Love At First Kill also brings the heat sexually as the film's provocative scenarios help to deepen the tension and unease throughout. Love At First Kill is highlighted by fine performances all around.
