Teri Hayden, an agent who guided the careers of such notable Irish actors as Gabriel Byrne, Ruth Negga, Brendan Gleeson and his son, Domhnall Gleeson, died April 18 in hospice care in Dublin after a long illness. She was 75.
In the early 1980s, Hayden, coming from a background in finance, anticipated the growth of Irish theater, television and film and with that an increasing demand for actors’ representation at home. It was Byrne who encouraged her to become a rep, and she launched The Agency.
“Never one to seek the limelight, she was however a fearless negotiator, determined to secure the best possible deal for her clients,” James Byron, a friend of her family, said in a statement. “She was also responsible for anonymously brokering projects even when she had no stake in the production.
“Despite the offer of a lucrative buyout by a major Hollywood agency, she refused to surrender her independence.

The most interesting creators are the ones you have to learn how to read. They tell stories their way, making their choices but not going out of their way to explain. And it can take reading a few books to figure that out: not all readers will want to spend that much effort.
I think I’m beginning to understand how to read Katie Skelly’s comics. I’m getting more excited, more interested, with each new book I read, which is a good sign: creators should be engrossing, should be exciting, as you learn what they care about and how to see things through their angles. So I may not have quite clicked with My Pretty Vampire , but there was something unique there, which brought me back for The Agency .
And now I’m back again for Maids , Skelly’s 2020 book. I think this is her most important...

Katie Skelly is a fun, interesting cartoonist whose work hasn’t quite connected with me. I knew that from her My Pretty Vampire , but the “fun, interesting” thing got me to come back for another run.
The Agency is a 2018 book, collecting a loose series of webcomics that came out over the three previous years. It doesn’t tell a single story, but there is a through-line, and – as I’m coming to think is standard for Skelly – there’s a core viewpoint and style that unifies the whole thing.
(I wonder where these stories appeared, since they’re quite sexy – and my sense is that the webcomics world has usually been divided into the “no nudity! we’re family-friendly” world and the “all sex! all the time!” world. This isn’t all sex, but it’s mostly sex: there’s a lot of nudity, casual and specifically sexy, and...

By now we should all know what to expect when we go to see a Fast and Furious film. They give us over-the-top, oftentimes ridiculous, action set pieces, and in between those set pieces will be Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) talking about family. Many people seem to have turned away from that ridiculousness, from the crazy, gravity and logic-defying moments each film gets, and instead call the films pointless. For myself, I accepted what these films are a long time ago, and if like me, you have accepted what they are too, then there is fun to be had.

I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living or get busy dying.
The Shawshank Redemption celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion stars Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman and director Frank Darabont reunited for a special Academy screening of the film this week.
Digital Spy goes then and now with the cast of the beloved drama to find out what happened to them in the years since Shawshank's original release.

A few years back we posted a list of some of our favorite Irish actors for St. Patrick’s Day, and it contained pretty much who you’d expect – Liam, Pierce, Colin F., Cillian, Daniel D.L. , Jonathan R.M., an Aidan (Quinn), but enough time has has passed that we have a whole new bumper crop to celebrate. Including another Aidan!
Here are ten more actors we can share our Shamrock Shakes with, and can smile those Irish eyes at us anytime.
Jamie Dornan
31-year-old Jamie grew up in the suburbs of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is the second cousin (twice removed) of Greer Garson. Along with a very successful modeling career, he’s flourishing on the big and small screen, with roles on Once Upon A Time, The Fall and he’s currently filming one of the most hotly anticipated spectacles of next year, Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Former "House" star Omar Epps has found his next TV role after a year away from the small screen.
Epps will have a lead role in ABC's drama "The Returned," about how people react when loved ones who have died suddenly start returning to them. He'll play an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who looks into the case of Jacob, a boy who suddenly pops up in rural China.
Kurtwood Smith ("That '70s Show") has also joined the cast as Jacob's father, who along with his wife (Frances Fisher) buried Jacob more than 30 years earlier.
More pilot-season news:
- Hope Davis ("The Newsroom," "In Treatment") will star in CBS' drama "The Ordained" as the sister of lead actor Charlie Cox. Her character is the mayor of New York and may be the target of an assassination attempt, which causes Cox's character to leave the priesthood in an effort to protect her.

Total Recall Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel Set Videos. The Total Recall (2012) set videos feature Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel from the Len Wiseman directed film on set in Toronto, Canada. Total Recall will feature flying cars and in the set videos the viewer sees how they will be used in the upcoming scifi film. Total Recall‘s plot synopsis: “As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker (Farrell) begins to suspect that he’s a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on.”
I can’t say I am really looking forward to this remake. The best part of the original Total Recall for me, besides the violence, was the few brief times Hauser (Arnold Schwarzenegger) appeared on screen and The Agency sub-plot. I hope there is more Hauser and The Agency in this version.

We’ve all grown accustomed to the new television lineups featuring epic adventures-in-time-and-space sci-fi shows. It’s nothing new. Our moms and dads followed Star Trek (the various ideations), Doctor Who, Lost in Space, Battlestar Galactica, V, and countless others; it left an indelible impression on our collective psyche. Humans just love the idea of a catastrophe or an us-versus-them dynamic, and throwing in some blazing guns, soaring music, gut-clenching drama and a large dollop of fantasy fulfillment into the mix makes is undeniably attractive. We want to toy with the idea of disaster and speculations about our futures, and how we, as a race, would respond in such situations, without the actual messiness of the real thing—plus, we all just love being scared and thrilled.

Walmart presents: family friendly television. Brought to you by Procter & Gamble.
The retail king and home products giant have teamed up to produce another "family friendly" TV movie, this one to be called "Magic Eye." The story of a star high school quarterback facing a moral dilemma -- turning in troublemakers on his team -- it will be the fifth production for the pair, who in February of 2010 announced a producing partnership as part of the Alliance for Family Entertainment, which the two companies co-founded.
The previous three films (they have another in production), "Secrets of the Mountain," "The Jensen Project" and "A Walk in My Shoes," aired throughout 2010, in time bought outright from NBC. This process, known as time buy or brokered programming, is often used by organizations looking to sell a message, such as an infomercial, religious group or politician.

Anybody else here a Highlander fan? I thought so. Well, a remake of that awesomely wicked cool 1986 sci-fi fantasy flick starring Sean Connery, Clancy Brown and Christopher Lambert has been in development for years now. It has a studio (Summit), a director (Justin Lin) and a producer (Peter Davis). Now all it needs is a script.
Highlander follows the exploits of immortal 16th century Scotsman Connor MacLeod as he engages in a centuries-spanning battle with other immortal warriors. The film flashes between past and present as he fights to be the last remaining immortal, because "There can be only one!"
So far, two separate teams of screenwriters have tried to bring a fresh, new perspective to the exhilarating journey that is the lusty life of Connor MacLeod. And what a life it is. The action! The adventure! The conflict! The humor! And, yes, the romance! But to date, no one...

As the ninth season of "Smallville" heads towards the home stretch, another familiar face from the DC Universe is set to debut on the show.
According to a report on IGN , Gil Bellows — perhaps best known for his roles in "Ally McBeal", "The Agency" and "24: Redemption" — has been cast as Maxwell Lord. Bellows will appear in an episode called "Charade" and may potentially recur as Lord in future episodes.
Maxwell Lord was created in 1987 by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire during their seminal run on "Justice League International." Lord was an amoral — though ultimately heroic — businessman who ran the Justice League for several years before betraying the DC heroes in the lead up to "Infinite Crisis."
Lord has previously appeared in the "Justice League Unlimited" animated series as a lackey to Amanda Waller and Cadmus — as opposed to Lord's role as the head of Checkmate in his later comic book incarnation.

Sam Tyler and Ray Carling are, to a great extent, "men of their time," says Jason O'Mara, who plays Sam on the ABC series Life on Mars, "and that's what I enjoy about it. It's 2008 versus 1973. I can be more extreme in a scene with Ray than I can with the others. I feel there is a polar repulsion. There's a distance between the two characters that may never be crossed." "Jason and I get along really well, and I have a real blast working with him," adds Michael Imperioli, who plays Ray. "And then I've got to be a prick to him. But that's what we as actors do: making something that's not real, real." Now in production for its second season, Life on Mars is a surreal story based on the British program from which it gets its name. New York City police detective Sam Tyler is hit...
