The Spiller family are like any other family. Geoff is a doctor, wife Sarah a music teacher and their children Simon and Kate typical teenagers. But when the family go to watch a hypnotist show and Simon mocks the act, the hypnotist gets his own back by getting the parents onstage and using them in his act. It causes much embarrassment for the kids when they get home, but the next day Kate notices her parents suddenly behave like children for no reason - only problem is that no one will believe her.

Simon finally believes Kate over her parents' unusual behaviour, but he is more occupied by not showing his parents his latest French exam results. Kate tries to avoid seeing her friends in fear of her parents showing her up, but this proves harder to do than she thinks when her mother starts behaving like a kid again during one of her erratic moments and runs off to the shops, leaving Kate to have to find her.

Finally convinced that they behave like kids at a drop of a hat, parents Geoff and Sarah go to a library to look up books in order to find a way to break the hypnotist's curse. While they are at the library, kids Simon and Kate go out shopping, but both are easily led astray by their friends. While Kate and friend Becky go looking for more adult clothes in the shops, Simon is persuaded by pal Jake to visit a tattoo parlour.

Kate decides she wants to become a vegetarian. Meanwhile Simon frets about writing a story in order to impress his latest love interest, Melanie. The two combine in the worst possible way when the family decide to go out for a meal at a restaurant, only for the hypnotist's curse to strike again.

Frustrated at how the family laze about during the school holidays, Sarah decides that they will do something together as a family. The rest of the family, however, are not happy and even less so when they discover that her choice of activity is to visit a museum. But it proves anything but dull when the dreaded hypnotist's curse strikes when they least expect it.

The Spiller family are horrified when Aunt Muriel turns up for an unexpected visit. Not only is she not the easiest of people to get on with, there is also the awkward matter of the habit Geoff and Sarah have of turning into children at the most inappropriate of moments. But Simon thinks her visit may have a golden lining to it when he overhears a phone call she makes - but could he be jumping to conclusions?

Kate is not happy when there is an outbreak of chicken pox in the area and she is the only one of her family to catch it. But while she is laid low with the virus, Simon has bigger worries when he is with his dad Geoff on call when visiting a pregnant patient, only for his dad to turn into a kid while there - and then the woman goes into labour.

Kate is eager to get a dog, but her parents refuse to let her have one. Kate is not happy, and even less so when she is forced to go shopping with her mother. But when Sarah changes into a kid while out, she runs off, leaving Kate to try and find her. Meanwhile the men of the family are at home watching the football, but no one has noticed that Geoff has reverted into being a kid - or that Sarah has sneaked home with a new edition in tow.

Meanwhile, Kate is trying to figure out what is the trigger word that keeps causing her parents to revert to childhood every so often. When Geoff and Sarah decide to hold a party at their home the hypnotist's curse strikes again, causing a huge fallout that sees the parents refusing to speak to each other. Can true love ever run smooth?

Kate finally figures out what the trigger word is that sets her parents off behaving like children. Although her parents are relieved to know what it is, they soon discover there is a new problem on the horizon - namely that of the Parents Evening they are due to attend at the school. Just how are they going to navigate round that without anything going wrong?

After another incident sees Sarah end up in casualty, the Spiller family decide the only way they can be free of the hypnotist's curse is if they can break the spell. After trying to look up solutions themselves they realize the only way is to find the original hypnotist. But tracking him down is not going to be an easy process.
