Not all of the classic Universal Monsters were based on classic stories. While Frankenstein and Dracula came from the minds of Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker, The Wolfman, and previously Werewolf of London, was based on folklore dating back centuries rather than fiction. While the character has had a hard time coming back into the limelight with the disappointing Wolfman from 2010 and even more disappointing Wolf Man from 2025, the myth has done well for itself even while not being as in the public favor as the Zombie or Vampire. Those original films may not be based on books but that didn’t stop writers from creating their own stories or studios from adapting them. This includes the likes of Hammer Studios Curse of the Werewolf being adapted from The Werewolf of Paris and The Wolfen getting turned into the 1981 movie Wolfen. Speaking of 1981, there were two other rather small werewolf...

The Young and The Restless spoilers and updates tease a game-changing twist that could leave the Abbott family reeling! Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) wants to renovate the Abbott Mansion, a change that could rock the family to their literal foundation.
Renovation Reservations
Is there a fan of the show who isn’t more concerned about Diane’s plans to overhaul the Abbott mansion than the outcomes for Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case)?
After all, we’re pretty sure they’ll come out just fine. On the surface, a renovation seems like a brilliant idea.
It’s no longer the 1980s, so why should a wealthy family like the Abbotts reside in a home that appears to have been styled by Krystle Carrington?
Plus, the interior of that brick structure is so dark and dreary that we’re amazed the only spirit to ever make an...

Few genres have been as reliable throughout the history of cinema as the prison break movie, from The Great Escape, to Escape from Alcatraz, to The Shawshank Redemption. Yet few have felt as authentic as Jacques Becker's Le Trou, translated in English as The Hole. Becker spared no expense in faithfully recreating the 1947 escape attempt at France's La Santé Prison, going so far as to cast one of the real inmates, Roland Barbat, to play himself. Barbat, appearing under the stage name Jean Keraudy, also served as a technical consultant, and he endorses the veracity of everything portrayed in a prologue, telling the audience, "This is my story." Becker's near-documentary approach lends newfound excitement to a tried-and-true genre, and influenced a generation of French filmmakers.

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers suggest that the land of Genoa City has some super couples that aren’t exactly producing chemistry or sparks on the canvas.
The town could use a little bit of an overhaul when it comes to the romance soap department, so here are three couples that need to break up, Asap!
The Young And The Restless Spoilers – So Long, Summance
Y&r spoilers remind fans that when Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) and Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) were first interacting, viewers couldn’t wait for the two to hook up. Then, when Summer and Chance finally connected, sparks flew, left, right, and center.
Chance has been a great influence on Summer, helping to ground her when she attempts to fly off the rails; however, ever since their “breakup” it’s been hard for the two to get back to the hot super couple they once were.

Although Rick and Morty season 8 promises more focus on Morty, the cartoon comedy needs to fix one recurring issue that season 7 ran into before making this switch. Rick and Morty’s season 7 ending was the show’s highest-rated episode in years on IMDb, and it is not hard to see why. Season 7, episode 10, “Fear No Mort,” was a clever, moving, funny adventure that fleshed out Morty’s internal world while also combining elements of The Twilight Zone and The Hole in an unpredictable sci-fi storyline. Although the show usually centers on Rick, “Fear No Mort” excelled by spotlighting Morty.

Having directed psychological thrillers, music comedies (2011’s “Killing Bono”) and comedy-thrillers based around the famed DeLorean car (2018’s “Driven”), Northern Irish director Nick Hamm has ventured into entirely different territories for his next feature.
“William Tell” is a historical action epic that turns the clock back more than 600 years, delving into the folk story of the Swiss hero who, according to legend, helped liberate Switzerland from the tyrannical rule of Austria’s House of Habsburg. For those with only a loose knowledge of 14th century European history, Tell is most famous for being an expert crossbowman who somehow managed to shoot an apple off the head of his son.
Led by Claes Bang in the lead role and with an all-star cast including Golshifteh Farahani, Connor Swindells, Ellie Bamber and Ben Kingsley, Hamm’s $40 million retelling of the tale explores both the famed apple shot, the precursor to it and the aftermath,...

The first footage from Rick and Morty season 8 might not give away much, but it does imply that the series could take another stab at parodying a famous sci-fi franchise. In its 11 years on the air, Rick and Morty has taken aim at almost every sci-fi series, trope, and clich under the sun. The anarchic Adult Swim series began life as a ribald parody of Back to the Future, and its first few episodes spoofed Inception, Jurassic Park, Fantastic Voyage, and David Cronenbergs entire oeuvre. Rick and Mortys season 7 ending proved that this hasnt changed since.

$700 dollars to rent a coffee machine?
There were many topics of conversation at this year’s AFM, not least the market’s seismic switch from Santa Monica to Las Vegas and the (slightly more) seismic matter of the U.S. presidential elections, which just so happened to coincide with the first day of the event (in the swing swate of Nevada) on Nov. 5.
But there was also the matter of the various costs involved, including the somewhat eye-watering amount companies were being asked to pay should they want to offer guests coffee in their already expensively rented office rooms in the Palms.
Few sales companies Variety spoke made the splurge. Several — which shall not be named here — snuck their own machines in. Others stuck to water (a small bottle of which was going for about $6.50 in one hotel lobby).
But hideously expensive beverages are all well and good if buyers...

Like the first film in the franchise, The Platform 2 features a twisting, emotionally charged plot that may leave some scratching their heads.
The Platform 2, streaming on Netflix, centers yet again on The Hole, a vertical prison where food is fed floor-by-floor as it descends from top to bottom on a platform.
That system would work fine if everyone only took their fair share, but one person on the floors above taking too much can lead to those on the lower levels going hungry.

Let's put aside the film analysis for now. What we have here is merely a local TV news segment challenging the label of “documentary”, just good enough in quality as bonus on DVDs to encourage the purchase of a particular edition (as seen with the Criterion Edition of “Boat People”), usually finding its way soon after onto YouTube under Creative Commons licenses. No significant work on structuring or editing has been undertaken; the result is a compilation of Dv Cam footage, often with intrusive background sounds, along with archival materials and photographs, all patched together. That said, is the film worth viewing? Certainly, if you have an interest in Ann Hui or the English era of Hong Kong.
