As the precedent user has already pointed out, this is not Simenonesque, even to the slightest extent;directed by Jean Dreville,Decoin's screenplay looks like his own little (charming ) comedies he made with then-wife Darrieux.
Unfortunately, the script is never really exciting and the lines lack madness ,poetry or wit ;sorry it cannot hold a candle to Guitry;and the actresses are not very exciting either:perhaps with Danielle Darrieux and the wonderful Betty Stockfeld (in "le President Haudecoeur " she almost stole the show from Harry Baur) as the American ,the movie would have been more appealing .Perhaps:not sure for the story is too derivative.
The American woman is a gentle femme fatale :men flutter around her like moths around the flame ;maybe she is to blame for in 1942,the Continental firm did not like the Americans .That's what we can call sweet propaganda!
