Box office trackers are extremely bullish on Warner Bros./New Line’s “It,” saying the horror film will bring good news to a movie industry in great need following a miserable August. Last week, the first round of tracking had the remake of Stephen King’s seminal horror tale making $50 million in its opening weekend. Now, those numbers have floated up to $60 million, a figure that would give “It” the biggest theatrical debut in horror movie history as well as the biggest opening for any film released in September. The record currently belongs to “Hannibal,” which made $58 million in its opening weekend in.

Three international TV spots - hailing from Axn - for Hannibal hit the web today and you can find them after the jump.
Debuting here in the U.S. on NBC April 4th from showrunner Bryan Fuller, the series takes its cue from the writings of Thomas Harris and finds Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen playing the ol' cat and mouse game as FBI agent Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter, respectively. Laurence Fishburne co-stars.
If you follow Fuller's Twitter feed, he let everyone know Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) was back on set ("set shrinking the Cannibal's head) to shoot more scenes for the series yesterday. The actress committed to a role last December.

After playing The Comedian in Zack Synder's film adaptation of Watchmen, it looked like Jeffrey Dean Morgan was poised for breakout success. But starring in a series of disappointing movies like The Losers, The Possession, and Red Dawn hasn't done much to convince the public that he's more than a poor man's American version of Javier Bardem. But hopefully this next project will put him back on the rise, as THR reports Morgan is joining Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell in a supernatural thriller called Solace. The film marks the English language debut of Brazilian director Afonso Poyart (Two Rabbits). Read on! As the iconic Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, the Oscar-winning Hopkins has experience playing someone with a peculiar specialty who is called upon to help stop a serial killer. He'll be doing something similar here, starring as a former doctor with psychic abilities who's recruited...

Laurence Fishburne plays the pivotal role of Jack Crawford, the agent-in-charge at the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI, who is tasked with tracking down a certain flesh-eating serial killer - a role played by Dennis Farina in Manhunter, Scott Glenn in The Silence of the Lambs and Harvey Keitel in Red Dragon. Fishburne headlines the cast of NBC's upcoming contemporary take on Hannibal, with characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel. Fishburne's Crawford is described as a "tough cop who seems to have been born to hunt serial killers and lacking the type of empathy that informs the lives of both Will and Hannibal and knows he needs Will to...

If you haven't seen the trailer for NBC's Hannibal series, I'm here to bring it to your attention. Hugh Dancy may be the focus of the extended trailer, but Mads Mikkelsen is going to own the shit out of this show. As you will see in the trailer, Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter are working together with Graham having no knowledge of what is going on...

[Updated with information on international territory sales.*] The first teaser for upcoming U.S. TV show Hannibal left the titular character, played by Mads Mikkelsen, in the shadows, but a new, extended international trailer brings him into the light as a sympathetic, helpful psychiatrist. He is charged by FBI Agent Dr. Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) with helping troubled Agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) as he profiles a serial killer. Graham is presented as the darker half of the unlikely pair, with Dr. Hannibal Lecter the kindly, uninteresting civilian. That reflects some of the descriptive passages in Thomas Harris' novels that explored the earlier days of the characters, which is where the new show begins. One concern that pops up here is to what degree Hannibal will...

The Doctor Gash's Top 10 Greatest Horror Movies…Ever! series is in the books, and we've had an incredible response from you guys with tons of likes and great comments both here and on the Dread Central Facebook page.

I would have loved to include so many films on this list. Believe me, it was really tough to get it down to just 10. The top 8 films were easy for me to name; however, numbers 9 and 10 were very difficult because each film placed toward the end of the list meant it was another one I couldn't include. Some ones that I would have loved to include but just missed my cut were mentioned by many of you in the comments section and I thank you for that.

NBC have released a full-length international trailer for its upcoming Bryan Fuller-produced series "Hannibal". The story is set prior to events in Thomas Harris' first Dr. Lecter novel "Red Dragon".
The series will explore the early relationship between renowned psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and a young FBI criminal profiler named Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.
The series will follow the cable model of only thirteen episodes a season. Fuller has previously indicated that he has mapped out a seven season plan which incorporates dynamic changes. Lecter's serial killer nature is expected to be revealed to the other characters by the end of the second season at the latest.
The new series premieres on NBC on April 4th at 10pm.

There's about as little new to a damaged authority figure returning to the field as there is to Hannibal Lecter, but against all odds, NBC's upcoming series looks and smells (will it taste?) fresh. Opening with the soothing sounds of Laurence Fishburne's voice, this much longer clip gives us an idea of how Hannibal plans to play out; that is, following the solo (but linked) adventures of Thomas Harris-created agent Will Graham and the notorious Dr. Lecter, and then watching them convene for consultation and psychiatric evaluation in between. Meanwhile, all manner of murder, flesh consuming, dreamy imagery and once again, Fishburne voice round out the proceedings.
The lovely look comes courtesy of Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me creator Bryan Fuller. Hannibal premieres Thursday, April 4.

"Game Of Thrones," "Mad Men," "Arrested Development"..."Hannibal"? Could the ailing, struggling, embarrassing NBC finally have a show that people will want to talk about this spring? And more importantly, that people will want to watch? Well, the more we see of the show, the answer could very well be Yes. After a quick teaser last week, a much meatier bite from "Hannibal" has arrived, and we have to say, it looks great. The reason we're excited for this show can be summed in two words: Mads Mikkelsen. As the titular cannibal, he is more than stepping into the shoes left empty by Anthony Hopkins in the recent film series. And this series brings with it an intriguing, cable-minded, quality approach. It will introduce FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Mikkelsen’s Lecter at the beginning of their relationship investigating serial killers for the FBI. David Slade helmed the pilot,...

One television show that has caught my attention is NBC's "Hannibal" based on the classic Thomas Harris character immortalized by Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs. Now this character comes to television in the form of an NBC series featuring Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in a story that will begin with Harris' "Red Dragon" and the relationship between Lecter and FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy). Today two new international trailers have arrived, quadrupling the length of the previous domestic tease. The series will premiere on April 4, directed by David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and and along with Mikkelsen and Dancy, the show features Laurence Fishburne as Agent Jack Crawford, a character previously played by Harvey Keitel, Scott Glenn and Dennis Farina, Gillian Anderson will play Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier, Lecter's therapist, and Lance Henriksen is also aboard for one episode. Earlier this month, NBC bestowed its viewers with a 30-second teaser for the upcoming series Hannibal, based on the world created by author Thomas Harris. After the jump, you'll find a 2-minute international trailer which provides us with a much better look at what's to come.
The series looks at the early days of FBI agent Will Graham's career and the time when he worked alongside Hannibal Lecter - naturally, before Graham realized Lecter was a cannibal. It appears the series is taking a few creative liberties, picking up with Graham being drawn back into the FBI game, which is where we saw him in Red Dragon/Manhunter - but in that book/film, Lecter had already been capture and Will was mentally exhausted/scarred by his time in the field.
David Slade directs the first episode which premieres April 4th.

As we get down to the number four entry on the list, we find one of the few horror films that the critics enjoyed as much as the fans. It's not often that true horrorphiles and starchy movie critics look at a film and both nod their heads and say, "Yeah, that's the stuff."
But with The Silence of the Lambs, that was exactly the case.

"I do wish we could chat longer, but…I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye."
That was the perfect ending line for the most critically-acclaimed horror film of all time. The film's list of accolades includes five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actor (which Anthony Hopkins won, despite being on the screen for only about 16 minutes of the two-hour film), Jodie Foster took Best Actress, Jonathan Demme was Best Director and the film also won Best Adapted Screenplay.

Oscar week concluded on Saturday afternoon with my favorite event of the week – the Hair and Makeup symposium. The Academy invited the public to join them to celebrate the achievements of this year’s nominees in the category. The nominees discussed their creative processes and presented film clips, photographs and displays of their work, including appliances, molds and wigs.
The event was moderated by makeup artists and hairstylists branch governor Leonard Engelman with special guests director Sacha Gervasi (Hitchcock) and actor Graham McTavish (The Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey).
Nominees Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell said, “Anne Hathaway insisted on having her hair cut for real in the movie and it was completely her decision. She was absolutely clear that she wanted to do it. We could have easily done it with wigs and full cap and basically a bald cap and a very, very fine wig on the top and...

A killer new series will premier April 4th on NBC. It will slay you every Thursday night. That’s right, Hannibal is coming to television and we’ve got the trailer. I hope you have some fava beans ready.
You’ve seen the films. You know the drill. Dr. Hannibal Lecter is the famed psychiatrist-turned-serial killer. The new series will explore the doctor’s early relationship with a criminal profiler. Will Graham is his name hunting serial killers for the FBI is his game. Graham is gifted in the method he has for getting into the mind of a killer, but when one twisted psychopath eludes him, he must seek the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the nation’s leaders in the psychiatric field.
What’s so fun about Hannibal? Only the audience will know Hannibal is a serial killer. You remember, it’ll be like the early seasons of Dexter.

Their stories may have run their course on the big screen, but two cinematic icons are going to get a new lease of life, when Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates make the transisition to T.V. with Hannibal and Bates Motel. Bates Motel takes it's bow on March 18th, updating the story of Psycho to present day, focusing on Norman's childhood growing up with his mother, and chronicling what happened to make him put on her dresses and kill people. Starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farminga as the Family Bates, this series promises a new take on the classic story. Premiering on April 4th, Hannibal is pretty self explanatory, focusing on Dr. Hannibal Lecter's (with Mads Mikkelsson being the perfect choice to take the role from Anthony Hopkins) days of freedom, when he was able to chow down on people when he pleased. This is one I am quite looking forward to,...

Now, just how gutsy do you have to be to create a series around a villain so beloved as Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter without Hopkins? About as gutsy as you'd have to be make a Norman Bates series without Anthony Perkins, I suppose. Cynics and skeptics alike may want to reconsider ragging on this series, though, because the series has released it's first trailer, and it looks like NBC might have actually scored a win with this one, as long as the series can deliver on the trailer's potential.

Now that NBC's "Hannibal" finally has a premiere date, the network has released an official trailer giving audiences the first look at the new series from Bryan Fuller ("Pushing Daisies") starring Hugh Dancy as FBI agent Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
If the above trailer looks uncomfortably similar to Fox's current serial killer serial "The Following," we have hopes that Fuller has a plan to take the genre somewhere fresh.
The bigger concern could be how Dancy and Mikkelsen adjust to roles we've already seen brought to life by other actors. Graham was previously played on screen by William Petersen (in Michael Mann's "Manhunter") and Edward Norton (in Brett Ratner's "Red Dragon"). And, of course, Lecter was made famous by Anthony Hopkins who won an Oscar for his performance in "The Silence of the Lambs" and reprised the role in "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon.

Writer Thomas Harris’ cannibal villain Dr. Hannibal Lecter first gained the attention of filmmakers in the 1986 Michael Mann film Manhunter. However, it was with the 1991 Jonathan Demme film The Silence of the Lambs that the character became part of film history, aided by a legendary performance from Sir Anthony Hopkins. Thus, a show NBC picked up for the 2012-2013 tv season that focused on Dr. Lecter’s early days as a consultant with the FBI and the rapport he had with Agent Will Graham before his arrest and incarceration piqued the interest of many. Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller is the creative force behind the show, with Mads Mikkelsen taking over the role of Dr. Lecter, and Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Scott Thompson, and Caroline Dhavernas joining him onscreen. The series will make its premiere on April 4th, taking over the 10 pm timeslot on Thursdays that...

Hungry for NBC's Hannibal? Here's an amuse bouche. The network has released the first teaser trailer for the new crime drama based on Thomas Harris' Hannibal Lecter character, and the results look suitably dark. The series, from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, revolves around brilliant FBI profiler Will Graham -- the protagonist of Harris' 1981 novel Red Dragon -- played here by Hugh Dancy. Graham joins agent Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) on the hunt for a serial killer who, among other things, impales his victims on deer antlers. Story: NBC Slots Bryan Fuller's 'Hannibal' for Thursdays at 10 p.m. The pair

Television is about to get a lot more stabby in the next few months as NBC and A&E both prepare to launch competing shows focused on two of cinema’s most notorious serial killers. Today, we bring you the latest on both Hannibal and Bates Motel and ask you which side are you on: Team Lecter or Team Bates? NBC’s prequel series to Thomas Harris’ popular novels and films is set to debut this April, and features Mads Mikkelsen playing the terrifying cannibal serial killer as he helps FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) track down a vicious killer. The catch is that at this early stage of the tale, no one but the audience realizes that Lecter himself is also a vicious serial predator. NBC debuted a new trailer for the series over the weekend, and you can have a...

When I was growing up, I was actually in a unique position where I saw Michael Mann’s Manhunter prior to Jonathan Demme’s adaptation of Thomas Harris’ bestseller The Silence of the Lambs. Do I think Demme had a better film than Mann, a little bit but I kind of dug Brian Cox’s interpretation of Hannibal Lector (or as it was spelled in that film Lecktor). I think it is a bit unfair to compare Cox to what Anthony Hopkins did with the character of Lector because Hopkins had more screen time. I can tell you I wasn’t a fan of the film Hannibal nor was I a fan of Red Dragon and never got around to seeing Hannibal Rising. I like what Bryan Fuller is trying to do with NBC’s Hannibal by telling the story that has never been told. How did detective Will Graham and Hannibal Lector meet?...

Admittedly, the prospect of a TV show following Hannibal Lecter is a bit cringeworthy. It reeks of the kind of corporate thinking that co-opted Sherlock Holmes for television after a successful movie franchise (and another successful television program) proved that the character had some life in him with modern audiences. It also, of course, taps into the same ease of movie remakes and has the same kind of name-recognition packaging that proves short cuts are always easier to take but don’t always bring you to where you want to go. Then again, hiring the man who cried blood in Casino Royale and owned every minute of Valhalla Rising to play one of the most famous fictional serial killers of all time is a hell of a good start. We’ll get to see how it fares in April when Hannibal comes to NBC, but the first teaser trailer for the show is enticingly dark and promises...

Mads Mikkelsen is good, Mads Mikkelsen can be great, but can Mads Mikkelsen convince everyone that he's Hannibal Lecter, Aka "Hannibal the Cannibal"? Mikkelsen plays the character, created by Thomas Harris in his 1981 novel Red Dragon, in a new U.S. TV show set to debut on April 4. The show, titled simply Hannibal, stars Hugh Dancy as FBI profiler Will Graham, and is an origin story. It's set during the beginning of the relationship between Graham and Dr. Lecter, before Graham (or anyone except the audience) learns that the good doc is a serial killer with a taste for human flesh. Laurence Fishburne plays Graham's boss, Jack Crawford. Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes) is the key creative force behind the show. The first...

Bryan Fuller’s success with television has been tinged with a bit of disappointment. His shows have mostly been cancelled at their early stages, like A Mockingbird Lane, which didn’t get picked up by NBC after its premiere last year or Pushing Daisies, which didn’t make it to its third season on ABC. But it seems that with his upcoming thriller Hannibal, all that may change, especially given its exciting trailer.
There have been a couple of adaptations featuring Thomas Harris’ iconic character, but none of them have been on television. Fuller’s rendition will be the first to present the serial killer on the small screen. Based on Harris’ novel, Red Dragon, the series stars Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Hugh Dancy as Agent Will Graham.

Dr. Lecter on network television? Yeah, it's happening. NBC has released the first promo for "Hannibal," a sure-to-be-grisly new series featuring Mads Mikkelsen as the infamous serial killer and Hugh Dancy as an FBI profiler tasked with picking his sociopathic brain (so to speak). Also starring in the Bryan Fuller-scripted show, which was ordered straight to series by the network last February, are Caroline Dhavernas, Lara Jean Chorostecki and Laurence Fisbhurne, who will recur as Jack Crawford, the head of the FBI's Behavioral Sciences division. So can Mikkelsen live up to Anthony Hopkins' iconic portrayal of the villain? We'll see when...

Here's the first promo trailer for Bryan Fuller's Hannibal TV series, which is based on the cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. It looks like it going to be really good! The NBC series stars Mads Mikkelsen as the title character, Hugh Dancy as FBI agent Will Graham, Laurence Fishburne as his boss Jack Crawford, and Gillian Anderson as Lecter's psychiatrist.
The pilot episode was directed by David Slade and the series will follow Graham as he tries to solve a series of murders and enlists the help of brilliant psychiatrist Dr. Lecter... unaware the good doctor is secretly a cannibalistic killer. Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me) wrote and is producing the series.
NBC has ordered 13 episodes for the first season, and it will premiere on April 4th, 2013.
One of the most fascinating literary characters comes to life on television for the first time: psychiatrist-turned-serial killer, Dr.Hannibal Lecter.

First promo trailer for NBC’s upcoming “Hannibal”, based on the character created by Thomas Harris and made famous by, of course, Anthony Hopkins. Former Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen takes over the role in producer Bryan Fuller’s TV version for the peacock network, with Hugh Dancy playing FBI profiler Will Graham. By now you probably already know how their, er, relationship ends, but this is how it all began. What are the chances that Fuller will take a little creative license with the original novel and movie source materials? I’d say that’s a pretty fair bet. And frankly, I hope he does. There’s nothing that says the TV show has to adhere strictly to the books or movies, right? Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him...
