Rob Schneider is attempting to mend fences with his estranged daughter, singer Elle King, following her recent public criticism of him.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Schneider addressed King’s comments, expressing remorse for his past shortcomings as a father. “I love you and I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed. Clearly I wasn’t,” Schneider said, directing his words to King.

Appearing in over 50 films and TV shows over more than three decades, Griffin won an NAACP Image Award from multiple nominations for his starring role in Malcolm & Eddie, a sitcom that aired on Upn for four seasons.

Appearing alongside Dave Chappelle, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the latter’s Academy Award winner A Star Is Born, he’s also been seen over the years in titles like the Denzel Washington thriller John Q, blaxploitation pic Undercover Brother, Armageddon, the Deuce Bigalow comedy franchise, Eddie Murphy starrer Norbit, Date Movie, Scary Movie 3, and My Baby’s Daddy, which he wrote, exec produced and starred in for Miramax.

Let’s get this out of the way right away. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is not on this list. Despite what was initially planned, the sequel to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be coming to theaters in March, or any time in the upcoming year.

However, the loss of one exciting film does not mean 2024 will be short of great animated movies. In its place will be cartoons to meet the needs of every type of moviegoer, from franchise continuations to adaptations of beloved works to new entries. Given the complex nature of animated films, many of these don’t yet have firm release dates.

Still, animations enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to this next year. Here are the big movies you need to watch out for…

SAG-AFTRA secretary-treasurer candidate Pete Antico has messaged union members in an attempt to drum up plaintiffs in a potential lawsuit against the labor organization.

Antico, who is aligned with an independent slate of candidates that is challenging Fran Drescher’s Unity ticket, on Thursday sent union members an election campaign message informing them of potential pending litigation against SAG-AFTRA. “Sag-Aftra union members across the country discriminated against and harmed by Sag-Aftra’s Return to Work Agreement are now taking matters into their own hands and are filing a lawsuit against the union to stop the madness,” Antico wrote in the message. The email exhorted members to read a letter from Protection of the Educational Rights of Kids (Perk), a 501(c)3 nonprofit that supported General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher’s Covid-19 vaccine lawsuit against ABC. Daniel Goldberg, the co-screenwriter of “Stripes” and producer of feature comedies like “Space Jam,” “Old School” and the “Hangover” trilogy, died Wednesday at age 74.

A frequent collaborator of directors Ivan Reitman and Todd Phillips and actor Bill Murray, who in addition to “Stripes” starred in the Goldberg co-penned “Meatballs,” Goldberg is survived by his wife, fellow Canadian film producer Ilona Herzberg, and his brother, “Deuce Bigalow” screenwriter Harris Goldberg. Per media reports, no cause of death was made public.

In a tribute for Deadline published Wednesday, Ivan Reitman’s son, filmmaker Jason Reitman, remembered Goldberg as “one of the kindest and most gentle souls I’ve ever known.”

Paul Grant, a “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter” actor, has died at the age of 56.

He was found collapsed Thursday outside of the London train depot Kings’ Cross Station by police. His family confirmed the news to The Sun on Monday. The cause of death has not been specified.

Grant was rushed tot he hospital, where he was declared brain dead.

His family made the decision to turn off his life support machine Sunday.

Showtime viewers have complained after a number of series were reportedly pulled from the US network’s streaming platform.

On Monday (30 January), it was also announced that Showtime was being integrated into Paramount’s main brand, and will be known going forward as Paramount+ With Showtime.

Among the original series to have been removed from the streaming service, per The Hollywood Reporter, are crime series American Gigolo, vampire drama Let the Right one In, and Kidding, starring Jim Carrey.

On Becoming a God in Central Florida and American Rust were also taken down from Showtime’s catalogue.

Showtime has seemingly become the latest platform to take advantage of the tax write-downs available for shows that have been removed from their catalogue.

Companies such as HBO Max have faced criticism from fans and creators for removing underperforming films and TV shows from their streaming catalogues, in order to maximise tax benefits.

Julian Kaye's story won't continue. Showtime has cancelled the American Gigolo series so we won't see a second season. The program is based on the 1980 feature film of the same name, and the first season of eight episodes concluded in October.

Scripted dramas Let the Right One In and American Gigolo have both been canceled and the Shailene Woodley-led adaptation of Three Women is no longer moving forward at the premium cable network. The latter series, which has already completed production, is being shopped to other outlets.

Both American Gigolo and Let the Right One In had been in the works for years before debuting in 2022 on the Paramount Global-backed premium cable network. Neither series lit the ratings on fire and reviews were mixed, at best.

Exclusive: Paramount Global just announced that Showtime will be integrated into Paramount+ across both streaming and linear later this year. In preparation for the move, the premium cable network, which will be renamed as Paramount+ with Showtime, had been re-evaluating its programming slate over the past several weeks under its new top executive Chris McCarthy.

As a result, Showtime will not be proceeding with new series Three Women, starring Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise and Gabrielle Creevy, which has been completed. The drama has been quietly shopped by its producers, and I hear there has been interest, with at least one offer on the table.

Today marks the 36th anniversary of the domestic opening of “Top Gun,” which zipped into theaters way back in 1986. Though the high-flying Tom Cruise-starring actioner is well-known now, its history and how unlikely its box office success was at the time of its release are less so.

Cruise returns for “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount), which opens on May 27 for a splashy Memorial Day weekend, and already has great initial reaction and early reviews, buzz almost unheard of for a wide mainstream release. That’s already one point of difference between the long-awaited sequel and the not well-reviewed first film: in 1986, when Tony Scott’s film debuted and ultimately defied expectations about what was expected — or even possible — in a blockbuster.

There are diverse streaming releases slates and then there is Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2022. There are no big franchises here, no big themes – just a whole bunch of original and library titles for everyone to enjoy.

Hulu’s major original releases in May come in the middle of the month. Candy premieres on May 9 and stars Jessica Biel as your friendly neighborhood axe murderer. If that sounds a bit outlandish, bear in mind that this limited series is based on the real life story of Candy Montgomery and her victim, the tragically named Betty Gore. On May 15, Hulu will play host to Conversations with Friends. This is the latest adaptation of the works of Sally Rooney. After the breakaway success of Normal People, Hulu is undoubtedly hoping for more lightning in a bottle.

If CBS comedy series How We Roll is renewed for a second season, it will return without executive producer David Hollander. Production on the Pete Holmes sitcom’s freshman season has been completed but if the series gets renewed for Season 2, Hollander won’t be involved, the network and How We Roll producer CBS Studios said in a response to an inquiry by Deadline.

As Deadline reported Saturday, Hollander, the developer, director, executive producer and showrunner of the upcoming Showtime series American Gigolo, produced by sibling Paramount Television Studios, was let go from the reboot of the popular 1980 movie after an investigation into allegations of misconduct. Underscoring the seriousness of the claims, both Showtime and Paramount TV Studios severed ties with the veteran showrunner.

“David Hollander is no longer on the drama series American Gigolo and Paramount Television Studios no longer has a producing relationship with him,” a spokesperson told Deadline in a statement Saturday.

With its list of new releases for January 2022, Amazon Prime Video is keeping things pretty simple. The streaming giant is rolling out a couple of original films, one big TV effort, and a whole host of library content, then calling it a day. And really, that’s all you need!

Rickie Lee Reynolds, founding member and guitarist for Southern rock group Black Oak Arkansas, died on Sunday morning. He was 72 years old.

Showtime has given a pilot order to comedy The Wood, based on the 1999 feature film, from Justin Hillian, Rick Famuyiwa and Showtime sibling Paramount Television Studios.

Famuyiwa, who co-wrote and directed the film, will direct the pilot and executive produce with Hillian, who will pen the script. The pilot order was announced during Showtime’s virtual TCA presentation Tuesday.

The Wood is an honest look at friendship and dating from the perspective of three young Black males born and raised in the gentrifying L.A. suburb of Inglewood, fondly referred to by locals as the City Of Champions. Daddy Daughter Trip tells the story of 2nd grader (Miranda Scarlett Schneider) who dreams of a fun-filled spring break vacation her family can’t afford. Exclusive: Following a lengthy search, Steven Spielberg has found the actor tasked with playing the young filmmaker inspired by the legendary director. Sources tell Deadline that Gabriel Labelle is in negotiations to play the young, aspiring filmmaker at the center of Spielberg’s upcoming film, which is loosely based on his childhood.

Michelle Williams is already set playing a role inspired by Spielberg’s mom, but with a separate and original voice, while Seth Rogen is aboard to play his favorite uncle. Paul Dano is set to play the character inspired by Spielberg’s father.

Given how personal the story is, this also will mark the first time since 2001’s A.I. that Spielberg will partake in screenwriting duties, co-writing the script with Tony Kushner, who has penned several Spielberg movies. The film will start shooting this summer with an expectation it will be released sometime in 2022. Spielberg, Kushner and Kristie Macosko Krieger are producers.

The first original of note is The Underground Railroad. This series from Barry Jenkins tells the story of one woman’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South and arrives on May 14. After that comes Solos. This intriguing anthology has one hell of a cast including Anthony Mackie, Dan Stevens, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Constance Wu, and more. Glenn Close is one of the most heralded actors in history, with a record eight Academy Award nominations — including this year, as best actress for “Hillbilly Elegy.” But to get there, even she has endured a series of bad auditions. In particular, she remembers a “miserable” experience in the late 1970s vying for a role opposite John Travolta in “American Gigolo.”

On a special edition of the Variety Awards Circuit podcast (scroll down to listen), Close details the “American Gigolo” experience, which began with her taking time off from a Broadway show to audition in Los Angeles. “Travolta was a huge star at the time,” she says. “And I remember that they had been working overnight to create this fancy office for him because he was coming in to audition with people.”

Rob Schneider is taking his comedic wits into the vocal booth.

Schneider, Dolph Lundgren (“Creed II”) and Nicholas Turturro have joined family comedy “Pups Alone.”

The “Saturday Night Live” alum will lend his voice to the live-action feature alongside a cast that includes Jennifer Love Hewitt, Keith David (“The Princess and the Frog) and Eric Roberts (“Runaway Train”). Lundgren and Turturro will be on camera. “Pups Alone” comes from an original concept and screenplay by Brandon Burrows and Jason Gruich.

“Rob is an absolute comedic genius,” Burrows said. “I can’t wait to share Dolph and Nick’s brilliant performances in ‘Pups.’ Dolph gives a powerhouse performance. Couldn’t be prouder to have them in the film.”

Pilar Schneider, who appeared in several of her son Rob Schneider’s films, died Monday of natural causes at her Pacifica, Calif. home. She was 91. A longtime teacher in the Pacifica school district, Schneider acted in commercials and appeared in some of Rob Schneider’s films, including Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Animal, The Hot Chick and Big Stan. She was a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Rob Schneider wrote a tribute to his mother on Instagram, noting how she had a hard life in the Philppines before arriving in America.

“Pilar spoke often of joining her beloved husband of 39 years, my lovely father, Marvin Schneider,” he wrote. “That day has come for them to be together. I am proud to be able to say that I am the son of Pilar Monroe Schneider.”

Pilar Schneider is also the mother of producer John Schneider, artist Stanley Schneider, and realtor April Schneider Farley.

Adam Sandler might be Netflix’s biggest drawing card, with his star vehicles always guaranteed to pull in huge numbers and crack the Top 10 most-watched list whether they’re brand new or two decades old, but the streaming service signed a deal with Happy Madison Productions and not the actor himself, meaning Sandler also gets to put his producing hat on and give some of his buddies their share of the spotlight.

This is hardly a new development, though, and ever since Happy Madison was founded in 1999, the company has churned out a series of movies featuring the Big Daddy star’s regular troupe of frequent collaborators.
