Sure, Christmas is just behind us but we’re willing to bet we already know one present horror fans are aching to unwrap this Halloween. Like a sinister version of The Little Engine That Could, our favorite Good Guy doll – still very much possessed by voice actor Brad Dourif – is about to be let out of the box once more. Pre-production rumors have been steadily building over the past few months, and earlier today Entertainment Weekly was first to report that principal photography on Cult of Chucky will start on January 9. Series creator Don Mancini will once again take the reins on this seventh consecutive film in the Child’s Play franchise. The synopsis provided through EW sounds quite ambitious insofar as the seventh...

Yes! Bones is coming back.
Precisely at 9/8c on Tuesday, January 3.
In true testament to the staying power of Bones, the show will have aired in six different time slots on five different nights by the time all is said and done. Assuming Bones Season 12 finishes where it starts!
It will be airing directly following two comedies. The time slot debut of New Girl and premiere of The Mick.
Bones is replacing a new reality series called Kicking & Screaming, which has been held back for sometime in midseason. I have no idea what that one is about, but it sounds unpleasant.
“From the very first season, Bones was called ‘The Little Engine That Could,’ so we could not be prouder of ending up as Fox’s longest-running scripted drama,” said creator and executive producer Hart Hanson.
“And we got there because of an insanely loyal, loud, lovely, lively audience.”

Over the closing 12-episode run, producers plan to bring back “fan-favorite guest stars and squinterns, as well as an old flame from one of the team’s past,” Fox said Thursday in a media release. And of course, what final season would be complete without a(nother) wedding? There will also be a serial killer storyline, we’re promised. Rest assured, Andy Cohen is just getting started.
The Watch What Happens Live host celebrated 1,000 episodes on air Wednesday night with two of his favorite "ride-or-die chicks" Chrissy Teigen and Kristin Chenoweth. 2015 was such a tumultuous year for WWE, to say the least. Ratings were in freefall, fan interest was reducing back to early mid-90s levels, many pay-per-views were deemed critical failures and an unprecedented number of top stars suffered injuries that put them on the sidelines for significant amounts of time.
But amidst all that, the developmental promotion (is it even fair to still call it that anymore?) known as Nxt chugged along as the wrestling version of The Little Engine That Could, gaining momentum until it eventually transformed into a steamroller ploughing through everything in its path.
Nxt saw an unexpected surge in popularity at the same time its parent company was wading through quicksand.
But why? What did the Triple H-led promotion do so differently that caused it to be the brand that fans chose as their example of wrestling done right, and how can WWE...

New network saves of canceled shows, that manage to still perform well, are making the world of television interesting of late, but Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt enters a new realm as an online streaming service gives it a new life before it has a chance to get canceled.
“Un-ordered” by NBC, Netflix picked up the show by Tina Fey, and the events had people scratching their heads. The details of the decision are likely rather complex, but the move seems decidedly strange if there is any chance that you have the next 30 Rock on your hands.
Now that the show has been released, you have to hope that someone has some explaining to do, because it’s easily one of the best shows in a decade. Easily.

If you thought 2015 would bring an end to horror’s found footage obsession, you’re a silly, optimistic soul who doesn’t understand what makes these films perfect studio fodder. Alien Outpost isn’t even the first found footage film I’ve seen this January, but thankfully it’s leaps and bounds ahead of the competition – only by comparison. Writer/Director Jabbar Raisani goes about reinvigorating one of my least favorite horror genres – alien invasions – and actually makes the extraterrestrial assault more enticing than it probably should be thanks to a video-game-like intensity favoring run-and-gun shooters. Raisani might have developed his special effects skills beheading noble types throughout Game Of Thrones, but the budding talent shows an eye for visual grandeur and succinct delivery in his future-blasting directorial debut.
Raisani’s vision takes us to a post-war-torn Earth after alien forces attempted to invade. Even though the battle is fierce and costly,...

It was a first on several levels — a first for Amazon, a first for online streaming, a first for veteran actor Jeffrey Tambor, and a first for the transgender community.
"The little engine that could," as Tambor recently described Transparent, took home a Best TV series award Sunday night, marking the first time a streaming series - drama or comedy - has earned such an honor. It also earned Tambor a Best Actor award in the Comedy or Musical category.
Backstage after the awards, a visibly moved Tambor thanked series creator Jill Soloway for the chance to play Maura Pfefferman, the transgender parent at the center of the series. “I’m 70 years old, these (roles) don’t come along.”
More importantly, he added, he was grateful “not for the reviews or for awards…just to get it right. I’m just honored.”...

Exclusive: Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, has signed a first-look deal with Threshold Animation Studios for CG-animated family features adapted from recognizable family-oriented brands. Universal will distribute films spawned from the deal. The companies first teamed on straight-to-dvd titles Lego: The Adventures Of Clutch Powers and Bionicle: The Legend Reborn. The pact gives Universal 1440 a stream of potential CG fare for its library of home video releases geared toward family audiences including the feature-length The Little Engine That Could film, the Emmy-winning PBS series Curious George, and the Barbie DVD film franchise.
In addition to the children’s titles, Universal 1440 has bolstered its home video offerings with non-theatrical franchise spinoffs including Death Race 3: Inferno, Curse Of Chucky, and the upcoming Scorpion King 4: Quest For Power. These VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray releases have built a burgeoning business for Universal’s home video development and production banner.

The little engine that could known as The Sing-Off is back for a fourth season, and after revealing the 10 new groups competing on the show’s official Twitter, my a cappella senses are tingling!
The Sing-Off was never officially canceled, but it was a pleasant surprise when NBC picked it up for a fourth season in March, after going off the air in November 2011. After the huge success of a-cappella-pixie-dream-film Pitch Perfect (for which The Sing-Off producer Deke Sharon arranged the music), and an estimated 40 bajillion YouTube views for season 3 winner Penatonix, bringing back this cult favorite was a no-brainer.

Five things we learned about the Us box office this weekend, including why franchises rule and the Spanish-language film that knocked Pan's Labyrinth off its perch
• Dane DeHaan: beat poet, Metallica roadie and, next, James Dean
• Sundance film festival 2013: Don Jon - first look review
Never bet against a number higher than one
You'll be familiar with the popular Hollywood adage, "Nobody knows anything", which begs the question: why would an investor go anywhere near the movie business? Be that as it may, we wish it to be known that this column reserves the right to contradict itself next week (or even next point) by saying the exact opposite of what it is about to state as a cast-iron rule of thumb. While it is true that as the numeral after a franchise title goes up, the movie's quality diminishes, it is still likely that box office returns will rise.

From day one, Parenthood has been TV's go-to-source for cathartic crying. But after three seasons of happy and sad tears, NBC's family drama reached an emotional zenith in season four when Kristina Braverman was diagnosed with breast cancer. What followed was the single best portrayal of the physical, mental, spiritual and communal toll cancer takes on the afflicted and their kin.
And while much of the credit must go to Parenthood's bravely cliche-allergic writers, the true success of the arc lies in the ovation-worthy, ugly-cry-extracting, raw-nerve performance Monica Potter delivered in every single episode. Those are three reasons (on a innumerable list) why she is poised to follow her Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama with a matching Emmy!

The actress poked fun at the movie in her monologue, but in a recent interview, she revealed that playing the destitute Fantine in the Broadway adaptation took a serious toll. Patricia Heaton is quite content to remain caught in "The Middle."
The "Everybody Loves Raymond" alum tells Zap2it she considers her Wednesday family sitcom, now in its second season on ABC, "sort of The Little Engine That Could. When we premiered, 'Hank' (with Kelsey Grammer, Heaton's earlier 'Back to You' co-star) was our lead-in and did not do well, so we were kind of starting alone there."
Heaton recalls "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town" -- also newcomers to ABC's Wednesday schedule then -- "were getting a ton of press, and we were kind of chugging along on our own. Fortunately, critics did such a great job of trumpeting our show, we were able to get a pretty decent audience even without a strong lead-in.
"This year, we're the lead-in [to the whole Wednesday lineup] -- and we've not only brought back the viewers we had last year, we gained viewers from repeats over the summer,...

It should come as no surprise that comic book creators are adept at coming up with disturbing children's book titles. Neil Gaiman, Cullen Bunn and Matt Fraction all participated in the #sadchildrensbook hashtag that's been showing up all of the Twitter Report feed recently, and you'll appreciate what they contributed.
In timely topic discussions, actor Tom Bosley's death prompted a few laments, while Apple's press event today had many a tweeter guessing about what they plan on announcing. R. Stevens even included a photo with his prediction. You can view that after the jump along with a Scott Pilgrim pumpkin and some sound industry advice.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for October 20, 2010.
@edgarwright My name is Edgar Wright and I approve this pumpkin. http://yfrog.com/1gu5rwj

@ErikJLarsen First Barbara Billingsley and then Tom Bosley?...

This past Monday, producer Lauren Shuler Donner, wife of Richard Donner, told ComicBookMovie.com that an upcoming Constantine sequel was in the works but it hit some "bumps in the road." Keanu Reeves was reportedly still involved and the film in question was definitely a sequel, not a reboot. And now it may be slowly gearing back up again, slowly but surely like The Little Engine that Could.
With all due respect: oh hell no.
This news brings out the inner angry black woman in me (yes, every white jewish nerd has one) because, well, who wants a sequel to an adaptation that was quirky and maybe even visually striking thanks to director Frances Lawrence but just flat-out stillborn? Based on the comic book character created by Alan Moore and turned into a Vertigo comic book series by writer Jamie Delano, John Constantine is a striking, even unique character and...

1. "Where The Wild Things Are" ($32.5 million)
2. "Law Abiding Citizen" ($21.3 million)
3. "Paranormal Activity" ($20.3 million)
4. "Couples Retreat" ($17.9 million)
5. "The Stepfather" ($12.3 million)
The wild rumpus was in full swing at the box office this weekend as "Where The Wild Things Are," the Spike Jonze-directed adaptation of Maurice Sendak's much-beloved children's book, decisively outgrossed the competition for a first place finish. "Wild Things" managed a $32.5 million intake by Sunday's conclusion, which wasn't quite as high as what some watchdogs thought the film might earn, but it's not a bad start towards earning back its $80 million budget.
"Law Abiding Citizen," the Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler-starring thriller, took the weekend's silver medal. The F. Gary Gray-directed film hasn't received the greatest of reviews but it clearly satisfied moviegoers enough to earn a respectable $21.3 million opening weekend. The movie only cost $50 million to make, so the team behind "Law Abiding Citizen" shouldn't...
