Like so many features from Vivid Video in its heyday, "Pleasureland" has a sexy cast and is intriguing, but fails to satisfy as a complete story. The team of director Jim Enright and screenwriter George Kaplan provide a template that is missing a third act.
The video's title refers to an erotic fantasy world that we only see glimpses of, mainly four-poster beds for lovemaking. It's discovered by Laura Palmer when she visits her sister Nikki Tyler, who needs a shoulder to cry on after her lesbian lover Lexus disappears. Along for the visit is Laura's husband Steven St. Croix.
The hand mirror has an inscription of a magic spell, which Laura recites and it takes her to Pleasureland. It's a place where she maturbates a lot, first watching a hot threesome of Celine DeVoux, Peter North and T. T. Boy.
She finds sis, but can't talk her into coming back with her to the real world -Nikki is intent on finding her lost love Lexus. The logical conclusion, set up here in the dialogue, is that Lexus is not real, just a denizen of Pleasureland who briefly escaped to our world. Nikki does get to hump Bobby Vitale there before Laura gives up her hunt and returns to hubby Steven.
Considering the seemingly never-ending success of Michael Crichton's creation "Westworld", it would have been nice to explore the fantasy Pleasureland in more detail, but it remains just a gimmick here. Emphasis is on lesbian sex (Nikki & Lexus perform two such scenes), while DeVoux is spotlighted in double-penetration: she's a basically gonzo performer who I had previously seen in Steven St. Croix's excellent thriller "Mindset", also from Vivid.
