For eight seasons, The CW's The Vampire Diaries weaved a romance that always kept fans guessing. Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) dramatic choice between two vampire brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), was the main conflict of the series, but it wasn't what made the series resonate with viewers. While romance was the main draw, it was contrasted exceptionally with some truly horrific and dark material.

The Vampire Diaries starts with a young girl in the throes of grief after the premature death of her parents. In the first episode alone, the series features murder, attempted sexual assault, and depression. The pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries would ultimately only be the tip of the iceberg for some of the darkest material the show would portray during its tenure.

Fortunately, both Deadline’s Awards Columnist and Chief Film Critic, Pete Hammond, and Film Awards Editor Damon Wise keep on hand an ever-evolving dossier of ones to watch. But then, of course, they don’t always agree. So, we got them together to boil it all down in a back-and-forth: What’s hot, what’s not, and what’s got big-prize potential. The Vampire Diaries discussions often revolve around the merits of each pairing. Stefan Salvatore and Caroline Forbes Steroline of The Vampire Diaries cast have garnered significant attention and debate among fans. Exclusive: Oscar-winning filmmaker Tom McCarthy’s production company Slow Pony has inked an exclusive first-look film deal with Concordia Studio, the talent-first studio whose most recent production, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, world premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will bow on Apple TV+ on May 12.

McCarthy comes to the deal after numerous successful collaborations with Concordia co-founder Jonathan King, who exec produced his Best Picture Oscar winner Spotlight during his tenure as President of Narrative Film and Television at Participant. In anticipation of tonight's farewell, we had the opportunity to talk with Matt Miller, the creative genius responsible for bringing this amazing show to our television screens.

In addition to being the creator. writer, and executive producer of Lethal Weapon, Miller is the co-creator of the new comedy series Trial & Error which can be seen on NBC.

He was also an executive producer on Chuck, the creator and showrunner of Forever, and showrunner for 666 Park Avenue.

Back in October, we reported that Fox is developing a new TV series based on the 1987 action classic Lethal Weapon, which Warner Bros. Television is producing. The project was picked up with a cast contingency, meaning the pilot's development would hinge on who was cast. Today, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Damon Wayans Sr. has been cast as Roger Murtaugh, lifting the cast contingency and clearing the way for Fox to formally issue a pilot order for the potential series.

The pilot will be based on the Lethal Weapon movie series, which starred Mel Gibson as the maverick Martin Riggs and Danny Glover as his rule-abiding partner, Roger Murtaugh.
