The “Wicked” movie is a box office powerhouse with $530 million and counting at the global box office. It’s also a critical darling, earning rave reviews and Oscar buzz for its leading ladies Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. But what if “Wicked” had originally been made decades ago with Demi Moore as the green-skinned Elphaba? A new report from Vanity Fair dives into the first attempts to bring “Wicked” to the big screen in the late 1990s.

“I am going to try and get the timeline right if I can remember, but I believe when I became the president of production at Universal, the project was already here,” producer Marc Platt told the publication. “It had been optioned initially by Demi Moore’s company.”

Platt was convinced that Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” would make for a great film adaptation.

Stitch returns! Disney unveiled the first look at its live-action “Lilo & Stitch,” in which the adorable blue extraterrestrial creature terrorizes an impressively constructed sandcastle.

The only people who watched these movies were nostalgic Disney-obsessed adults who viewed them as a scientific curiosity, and sought to use them as talking points in long-form online articles. Very occasionally, the films were rented from Blockbuster by anyone who happened to be seven years old when the sequel in question was released.

An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. The Wild Robot is continuing to wow audiences in theaters and now the director has confirmed that a sequel is in the works.

Heading into its third weekend at the box office, the animated film is expected to come in second place again for the weekend. It has already grossed more than $74 million at the domestic box office after just 15 days in theaters and over $111 million worldwide.

Julie Bowen is returning to TV in Peacock’s “Hysteria!” and things are getting spooky, that is, if they’re even real.

In the teaser for “Hysteria!,” released Monday, the “Modern Family” star goes about her day cooking and cleaning as a 1980s housewife until a strange interruption causes the lights to flicker and her house to shake.

By the time the event stops, Bowen thinks she’s in the clear — until she spots the face of a demon in her microwave, which proceeds to splatter into red globs.

Cheng Pei-pei, who memorably starred in Ang Lee’s Oscar-nominated film, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, died Thursday at 78 in the San Francisco Bay Area from a degenerative brain disease.

Cheng was born in Shanghai in 1946, moving to Hong Kong in 1962. There she began working with the iconic Shaw Brothers studio, which is widely acknowledged as popularizing kung-fu movies. Her feature debut was drama film Lovers’ Rock, and using her training in ballet and dance, she soon became a major star in martial arts, action, and swordplay movies .

The 1966 action film Come Drink With Me, directed by King Hu, was her breakout role. It was named as Hong Kong’s contender for the Oscars, but not nominated.

Cheng moved to San Francisco in the 1970s, attending business school at the University of California Irvine while raising four children. The children went on to their own show business careers.

Lionsgate is developing a John Wick spinoff movie around Donnie Yen’s Caine assassin character.

Yen will reprise his John Wick: Chapter 4 role in the untitled project set to shoot in Hong Kong in 2025. The franchise expanding film, with no director yet announced, will follow the events of John Wick 4 as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.

The project also follows Yen, a veteran Hong Kong action hero, pushing back against what he claimed were Asian stereotypes in the original script for John Wick 4. After some prodding, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski agreed to change the name and clothes for Yen’s character.

Donnie Yen has inked a deal to reprise his role as Caine, the highly skilled, blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, in a new film from Lionsgate set to shoot in Hong Kong next year, the studio announced on Wednesday.

While the logline is being kept under wraps, the new film will continue Yen’s story arc following the events of Chapter 4, as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.

The new film was developed as part of Chad Stahelski’s recently announced deal with Lionsgate to oversee the expansion of the John Wick universe and will be shepherded by franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee (John Wick: Chapters 1 through 4) for Thunder Road and Stahelski through his 87Eleven Entertainment banner.

The Planet Of The Apes franchise has seen five feature films from the original movies, one from Tim Burton in 2001, a successful prequel series starring the amazing Andy Serkis, a live-action television series, an animated Saturday morning series, comic books, trading cards, action figures, you name it.

50 years ago in 1974 20th Century Fox came up with the clever idea to offer all five movies at once to select movie theaters, and program them together as a “Go Ape!” movie marathon.

Inventive marketing at the time, the films starred the incomparable Roddy McDowall, who played Cornelius and Caesar, in 4 out of the 5 movies. All the movies can now be found on streaming services.
