PBS’s flagship genealogy series, “Finding Your Roots,” returns for its eleventh season, and while the formula remains the same – famous people discover interesting things about their ancestors – the appeal hasn’t diminished. This time around, Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, the voice of Disney’s Mulan, and Amanda Seyfried, Emmy-winner for “The Dropout,” are the […]

Wax On, Wax Off. For those of us who lived through the 1980s, The Karate Kid has been in our lives in one way or another. Even if you have never seen any of the films, you know what Wax On, Wax Off means. In 2018, we got to take a trip back to the All Valley Karate Tournament to see what Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence were up to. The series Cobra Kai became a big hit on Netflix (after moving from YouTube Red), but with that series winding down, are we saying goodbye to our beloved characters? Not quite yet.
World’s Collide
Before Cobra Kai became a hit, they tried once again to get some juice out of the Karate Kid IP. Only this time without any previous characters. In 2010, a “remake” of The Karate Kid was made. They transported the action to China with a young Jaden Smith...

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is powering to the top of box office charts while “Mufasa: The Lion King” is getting trampled in its first weekend of release.
Paramount’s third “Sonic” adventure has opened at No. 1 with $62 million from 3,761 North American theaters. Bolstered by positive reviews and strong audience scores, the film beat initial expectations of $55 million to $60 million and looks to remain a holiday hit through the new year. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” was tracking for a trilogy-low start but instead opened above the original 2020 “Sonic the Hedgehog” ($58 million) and just below the 2022 sequel (a series-best $72 million).
Disney’s “The Lion King” prequel “Mufasa” was trotting behind in second place with $35 million from 4,100 cinemas, falling way behind pre-release expectations of $50 million. It’s a terrible start for a tentpole that cost above $200 million to produce and roughly $100 million to promote across the global. Despite mixed reviews, the film has several potential saving graces,...

The “Wicked” movie is a box office powerhouse with $530 million and counting at the global box office. It’s also a critical darling, earning rave reviews and Oscar buzz for its leading ladies Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. But what if “Wicked” had originally been made decades ago with Demi Moore as the green-skinned Elphaba? A new report from Vanity Fair dives into the first attempts to bring “Wicked” to the big screen in the late 1990s.
“I am going to try and get the timeline right if I can remember, but I believe when I became the president of production at Universal, the project was already here,” producer Marc Platt told the publication. “It had been optioned initially by Demi Moore’s company.”
Platt was convinced that Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” would make for a great film adaptation.

The circle of life must make room for a new species as an adorable blue, goblin-like alien pays tribute to Disney’s The Lion King for the new Lilo & Stitch teaser trailer. While we’re still months away from Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, the mouse-eared studio is happy to bait fans with brief glimpses at the upcoming adaptation’s main character. Today’s Lilo & Stitch teaser finds Stitch being held high in the air at the beach, a nod to the iconic scene from The Lion King when Rafiki presents a baby Simba to animals of the Pride Lands. Looking closely, you can see Stitch’s orange swimmies, a device that keeps inexperienced swimmers from drowning. I suspect Stitch is adept at the doggie paddle, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

“Tangled” is the latest Disney movie to get the live-action treatment.
The studio is developing a reimagining of the 2010 animated movie, a modern, musical take on the magically long-haired princess Rapunzel. “The Greatest Showman” filmmaker Michael Gracey is in talks to direct the film from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, whose credits include Netflix’s campy dark comedy “Do Revenge, “Thor: Love and Thunder” and the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot. Casting has yet to be announced.
“Tangled” tells the story of Rapunzel, a princess (voiced by Mandy Moore) who is eventually rescued from her secluded tower by an outlaw named Flynn Rider. The well-reviewed film opened around Thanksgiving and generated $592 million at the global box office, which would have been a better result had the movie not reportedly cost $260 million to produce. “Tangled,” which boasts the Oscar-nominated song “When Will My Life Begin,” inspired...

When filmmaker Chris Sanders began to imagine what his fifth animated film, “The Wild Robot,” might look like on the big screen, he was stuck on one crucial idea: how to turn Peter Brown’s deep-feeling and beautifully rendered YA novel about a caring robot and the baby goose she adopts into a movie for everyone.

Disney has been teasing out the new Lilo & Stitch live-action adaptation with a first look of the furry blue creature, then a teaser trailer showcasing Stitch rampaging through a series of sandcastles, which includes a sandcastle made to look like the famous Disney castle. We’re given just a tiny bit more of the wild alien pet acting on instincts with his mouth munching on a coconut creature. The poster would sport a very cheeky tagline, “Hold on to your coconuts.” The new adaptation is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

No sandcastle is safe from Stitch’s wrath in the teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch movie. The adorable blue alien makes his live-action debut on May 23, 2025, but not before Disney dazzles fans of the 2002 animated classic with a look at Stitch causing havok. In the Lilo & Stitch teaser trailer, Stitch destroys a sandcastle shaped like Disney’s iconic Magic Kingdom. As he stomps through the sand like Godzilla, reducing parts of Tokyo to rubble, Stitch roars with glee, proud of his mess. It remains to be seen if the teaser is a part of the movie or simply a demonstration of Stitch’s live-action antics. Does it matter? It’s endearing either way.

Stitch returns! Disney unveiled the first look at its live-action “Lilo & Stitch,” in which the adorable blue extraterrestrial creature terrorizes an impressively constructed sandcastle.
Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind A24’s charming indie comedy “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” is directing “Lilo & Stitch.” Sanders, who co-directed the original 2002 film, is reprising his voice role of Stitch, while Maia Kealoha (as Lilo), Zach Galifianakis, Sydney Agudong, Billy Magnussen and Courtney B. Vance are joining the cast.
“Lilo & Stitch” will be released 23 years after the first film, which grossed $273 million at the global box office. In an era where CGI animation dominates the market, it is refreshing to see something different, even if it’s not something particularly new. The fans loved what Dreamworks did with The Puss in Boots 2 and The Wild Robot, while the recently released Over the Garden Wall special reminded us how animated movies can be done without a lot of CGI.
In light of this, a group of animators is currently working on a project titled Light of the World, which is set to hit theaters next summer. The project is funded by The Salvation Poem Project, and it involves former Disney employees.
The movie is a 2D animated Biblical story of Jesus told through the eyes of his teenage disciple, John, who is the principal character of the movie. The Salvation Poem Project has recently released the first teaser for the upcoming movie, which shows what it will all look like next summer.

The age-old practice of beauty and wellness has prevailed since the dawn of the Greek and Roman empires. Today, Hollywood can put even Helen of Troy to shame over its obsession with Botox and plastic surgery. Meanwhile, the martial arts legend Jet Li leaves beauty in the eyes of the beholder and rejects the concept of going under the knife.

All the Jackie Chan fans are cheering high for Karate Kid: Legends. The sixth installment in the Karate Kid universe would be directed by Jonathan Entwistle. And will feature Chan and Ralph Macchio reprising their iconic roles as well as Ben Wang as Li Fong. Notably, this would also be the first movie in the franchise not produced by Jerry Weintraub, who sadly passed away in 2015.

As denizens of Blockbuster Video will be able to attest, the mid-1990s to early 2000s saw a massive glut of animated straight-to-video sequels and prequels to many of Disney's known animated features. There were sequels to "The Fox and the Hound," "Bambi," "Cinderella," "The Little Mermaid," "The Lion King," "Lady and the Tramp," "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," "The Emperor's New Groove," "Mulan," "Pocahontas," "Tarzan," "The Jungle Book," and even "Brother Bear." The sequels all came when there was a change of leadership at Disney, and the studio tripled-down on the mandate to make as much money as possible.
The only people who watched these movies were nostalgic Disney-obsessed adults who viewed them as a scientific curiosity, and sought to use them as talking points in long-form online articles. Very occasionally, the films were rented from Blockbuster by anyone who happened to be seven years old when the sequel in question was released.

Some actors show immense talent from a young age, and Jaden Smith is one such example. The actor debuted as an 8-year-old alongside his father, Will Smith, in the 2006 movie The Pursuit of Happyness.
However, it was his successful stint in The Karate Kid with the iconic Jackie Chan which went on to establish his reputation in the industry. Unfortunately, he never could replicate that level of success with his later projects, and diverted his career path. The young star then kickstarted his musical career and that too became huge after several hits.
From a young movie star to a musical prodigy
Will Smith worked consistently in the entertainment industry to establish himself as a talented actor. The Men In Black star dabbled in films of a diverse range to prove his acting ability.

Just in time for a Halloween binge, Hysteria! is now available on Peacock and, having seen most of the series already, I can definitely say that it's worth your time. An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. During a recent press day, I caught up with Bruce Campbell, where we talked about his new role and his experience with satanic panic in the 1980s.
Synopsis: "When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a...

Jackie Chan is the kind of guy who crosses generations and is still recognized by everyone today. But it’s crazy to think about how he got to where he is, especially since it’s pretty rare for a martial arts star to blow up worldwide like he did. The truth is, from the very beginning, he knew exactly what he wanted, and he never backed down for anyone.

The United States of America will soon be met with its 60th quadrennial presidential elections later this year, and the buzz surrounding who could win is as strong as ever. Amidst this, previous statements of Star Trek legend George Takei sharing his take on who could be a better leader for the country have also resurfaced. And his response wasn’t in favor of Donald Trump.

To say the least, Takei had the most candid confession about having Trump as the next president of the USA as he didn’t hesitate to call him out over his alleged shortcomings. And while these included factors along the themes of equality, growth, and development, the actor cum writer also openly claimed that Trump as prez would mean the death of NASA and space travel.

Julie Bowen is returning to TV in Peacock’s “Hysteria!” and things are getting spooky, that is, if they’re even real.
In the teaser for “Hysteria!,” released Monday, the “Modern Family” star goes about her day cooking and cleaning as a 1980s housewife until a strange interruption causes the lights to flicker and her house to shake.
By the time the event stops, Bowen thinks she’s in the clear — until she spots the face of a demon in her microwave, which proceeds to splatter into red globs.
The new series, which also stars Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”) and Bruce Campbell (“The Evil Dead,” “Army of Darkness”), will debut on Friday, Oct. 18, on Peacock, USA Network and Syfy. All episodes will be available on Peacock, while USA Network and Syfy will simulcast the premiere episode on Oct. 18 with USA Network airing new episodes each Friday.

Boycotting has been around for centuries, proving time and time again to be an effective yet peaceful way to call attention to problematic or unjust situations. The aim is to inflict economic loss to an individual, corporation, or, in this case, a film, in order to urge a change in behavior. For the most part, boycotting has been used for the better. Pulling support from people or companies who are harming a community is a great idea. However, in some cases, especially in the film industry, it’s important to think through the entire impact of a boycott before making a decision. The sheer comedic genius of Robin Williams still stands the test of time in all of his works. Anyone who glances over his career is sure to point a finger at 1992’s animated gem Aladdin and yap for hours on end about how the Genie is one of the best secondary characters in Disney. Though, we could argue that he stole the show and is the biggest word associated with the flick.
Chicken à la King or Caesar salad? | Aladdin (1992), Disney
As iconic as his voice was, the character design of Genie himself was a standout. The guy looks like Robin Williams drenched in blue! It wasn’t the only striking feature in Disney’s animation style, however. Aladdin had a very distinct and unique flavor… Take a good look at any scene and you’ll question, “Why is everything so curvy?”

Christina Aguilera’s career began on The Mickey Mouse Club and her music began to reach a more adult audience with further help from Disney. Her version of the song “Reflection” from Disney’s Mulan helped her land a record deal with RCA. While Aguilera was grateful for the opportunity, she admitted that the story of her rise to success was a bit cheesy.
Christina Aguilera said an important moment in her career was a little cheesy
As Aguilera sought out a record deal, she got the chance to record a pop version of “Reflection” in 1998. She had initially contacted RCA, and they recommended she contact Disney. They were interested.
“Yeah, it’s so cheesy how I got it, but it was really cool,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 1999. “My manager gives me a random phone call out of the clear blue one day while I’m just hanging out in my hometown of Pittsburgh.

Eddie Murphy was a household name in the United States of America way before he forayed into films due to his standup comedy. But, if my memory isn’t failing me, he garnered international fame after his work in The Nutty Professor, Mulan, and Dr. Dolittle. And after he became the voice of Donkey in Shrek, every kid in the whole wide world became familiar with Murphy’s body of work. However, as the cinematic landscape, especially the comedy genre, started to change, and the pile of bad reviews turned into a mountain, Murphy decided to take a break. His return to the big screen wasn’t all that good. So, he took yet another break and returned with one of the best movies of all time, Dolemite Is My Name. Now, he seems to be in the mood to reprise some of his older roles. Comedy 2 America wasn’t good.

Among the various successful lineups of Disney’s Pixar, it features popular titles like Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and many more. However, there is one underrated franchise that does not get the wholehearted love it deserves. It is none other than Cars. The film is often overlooked but it is surely one of the classic films that is enjoyed by children and adults alike.
A still from Cars. Credits: Disney/ Pixar
Though one would assume from the title that the story is merely about some automobiles, its central themes are much more complex and center more than just vehicles. The film teaches us grounded values with a gripping storyline in a fast-paced racing world. But the film is much deeper than that as it became Paul Newman’s most popular film giving him a fitting tribute before he passed away in 2008.

The world of Disney has never once disappointed when it comes to musicals. With sprawling tales of epic love stories and star-crossed lovers finding their way to each other, the studio has never once failed to craft a saga that doesn’t bring a tear or two to the eye. Fairy tales like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty gave way to more ambitious adaptations such as Aladdin and Pocahontas.
Aladdin (1992) [Credit: Walt Disney Pictures]However, without original creations to fill the void left behind by such age-old mythologies, a dozen different adaptations of the same story would mark the downfall of an industry that runs on selling love, hope, and eternity. Now, word through the grapevine suggests that the studio is set on fixing the error of its ways by bringing a new princess into the scene as soon as possible.

The project also follows Yen, a veteran Hong Kong action hero, pushing back against what he claimed were Asian stereotypes in the original script for John Wick 4. After some prodding, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski agreed to change the name and clothes for Yen’s character.

While the logline is being kept under wraps, the new film will continue Yen’s story arc following the events of Chapter 4, as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table.
The new film was developed as part of Chad Stahelski’s recently announced deal with Lionsgate to oversee the expansion of the John Wick universe and will be shepherded by franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee (John Wick: Chapters 1 through 4) for Thunder Road and Stahelski through his 87Eleven Entertainment banner.

The Planet Of The Apes franchise has seen five feature films from the original movies, one from Tim Burton in 2001, a successful prequel series starring the amazing Andy Serkis, a live-action television series, an animated Saturday morning series, comic books, trading cards, action figures, you name it.
50 years ago in 1974 20th Century Fox came up with the clever idea to offer all five movies at once to select movie theaters, and program them together as a “Go Ape!” movie marathon.
Inventive marketing at the time, the films starred the incomparable Roddy McDowall, who played Cornelius and Caesar, in 4 out of the 5 movies. All the movies can now be found on streaming services.
In 2024, Pota fans were offered the chance to see the film on May 8th at the special Fan Event and “Go Ape” again!
