It's been 22 years since Earvin "Magic" Johnson went on Arsenio Hall's late night show the day after he told the world he was HIV positive - and now the longtime friends are looking back on the profound 1991 television interview.

Arsenio Hall is back! After a nearly 20-year hiatus from the spotlight, Eddie Murphy’s best friend has re-emerged with his new syndicated series Arsenio.
Resurfacing on the small screen Monday night for what he called a “party with friends,” Hall, brought ’90s flair to his late-night broadcast. From his opening sequence with Jay Leno as his shrink to guest Chris Tucker, a performance from Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion), and Tara Reid spotted in the audience, the 2012 winner of Celebrity Apprentice evoked late-night nostalgia.

I'm a huge Arsenio Hall fan. I go way back. I was watching Arsenio when it wasn't even The Arsenio Hall Show, it was The Late Show on Fox and he was guest-hosting for Joan Rivers. I remember being blown away that a talk show host could wear sweaters and leather pants to work (I still can't pull off that combo). I made VHS tapes of my favorite Arsenio interviews and saved them for posterity. I'm so much of a Arsenio fan, that I recently did a web series on Jash called, "The Arscheerio Paul Show," where I

The last time Arsenio Hall stepped onstage as host of a late-night talk show, Bill Clinton was in the White House and Miley Cyrus was in diapers. And the three “surprise guests” who turned up on last night’s premiere of The Arsenio Hall Show already were big stars. The syndicated show featured a couple of songs by Snoop Dogg (not Snoop Lion), some squirm-inducing scripted banter with Paula Abdul (oh, she loves Arsenio so) and a funny open, featuring Hall’s 25-minute-a-night current rival Jay Leno (watch that bit below). As for ratings: The Arsenio Hall Show bowed as the top-rated late-night broadcast program among the 18-49 and 25-54 demos, according to early stats. Arsenio scored a 1.0/4 in adults 18-49 and a 1.2/5 in adults 25-54 in Nielsen’s Local People Meter markets, beating his late-night broadcast competitors in those markets. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, NBC’s...

Arsenio Hall returned to late night on Monday, nearly 20 years after his eponymous talk show aired its last episode, and he brought out some old friends to help him make his comeback. "Leave it to the first black late-night host to take 19 years off work and come back here and expect my job to still be here waiting for me," Hall joked in the monologue of the first episode of his syndicated series, Arsenio. Fellow early '90s icon Paula Abdul was a surprise guest on what Hall said was the "biggest night of [his] life."

The king of ’90s late night returned Sept. 9 to a warm welcome from critics, fans, and of course, the Dog Pound. Woof!
It’s always risky stepping back into the game — especially when you’ve been out of it for almost 20 years — but it would appear Arsenio Hall hasn’t forgotten any of the rules. The Arsenio Hall Show returned Sept. 9, and while some Twitter users were quick with the snark, true critics are hailing the late-night icon’s triumphant return.
It seems that, rather than attempt to bring himself into 2013, Arsenio brought 2013 back to him — and it totally worked! Though one reviewer noted that the host was a little rusty after nearly two decades, most heralded it as “a walk down memory lane,” one that would likely be considered a “success.”

Of all places for "The Arsenio Hall Show" to kick off, on the set of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" probably wasn't at the top of most people's lists. That's what happened though, as Arsenio Hall used Jay Leno as his therapist. It was a funny moment from the outgoing "Tonight Show" host.
The more things change, the more they stay the same, it seems. The set of the show isn't all that different from the first time around. Arsenio still talks to guests from a big, comfortable-looking chair, while they sit on a couch. Of course, there's also the expected "Woof, Woof, Woof" chants you might remember from his dog pound.
Arsenio pulled out all the stops for his first show, which includes bringing out Snoop Dogg to perform his 1993 hit "What's My Name?" He even got Paula Abdul to make an appearance. She mostly talked about how awesome Arsenio is,...

Nearly 20 years after his hip, rowdy talk show left the airwaves, Arsenio Hall is back, ready to chat again, and raring to explore what he deems a more tolerant political climate. The 57-year-old late night legend kicks off a new syndicated talk show this September 9, and while he won’t spill on who the first guests will be, he’s perfectly willing to pick out his dream interviewees. Good call, Arsenio.
We spoke to Arsenio about the gayest moments on his old talk show (Bill Clinton and his spirited sax solo don’t count, I guess), remembering his heated, on-air argument with rogue members of the radical Lgbt group Queer Nation (They’d accused him of not inviting gay guests on the program), and the nice things his former Celebrity Apprentice castmate Clay Aiken says about him.

"The Arsenio Hall Show," is the syndicated return of the titular host to late-night television. At the TCA press tour on Monday (July 29), Hall -- along with executive producers Neal Kendall and John Ferriter -- presented his new show.
What sort of show will it be?
To say that Arsenio Hall was eager to get going with his new show was an understatement. As the lights came up after the sizzle reel, Hall was already talking about his phone and Twitter. The host-to-be paused only when the official Mc for the panel had to do an introduction.
Hall didn't think that he would need to steal his audience from one or more of the competitor late-night shows. Instead, Arsenio thinks he'll be playing to those who don't already have a show that speaks to them. As Ferriter, one of the executive producers put it: "There are 290 million Americans who don't watch late night.

Why is comedian Paul Scheer recreating classic moments from the original Arsenio Hall Show in a new YouTube series called The ArScheerio Paul Show? There’s really no explanation — beyond the fact that he’s doing it under the umbrella of Jash, an online comedy network devoted to offering all its partners “complete creative autonomy.” You know, just in case they want to do something like this. Weird comedy aficionados Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Reggie Watts, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim must approve — after all, they’re the “luminaries” who founded Jash.

I'm finally getting around to reading Nicole Laporte's tome, The Men Who Would Be King: An Almost Epic Tale of Moguls, Movies, and a Company Called DreamWorks. I bought it in 2011 when it was published, but just never go around to reading it until now. It's an entertaining read; not terribly eye-opening thus far (I'm about a third of the way through it), but I'm picking up a few things here and there, as well as reminders of previous noteworthy events, like the company's early failed attempts into television - one of which was the scripted series titled Arsenio. I'd completely forgotten that talk-host Arsenio Hall once starred in his very own TV comedy sitcom, opposite...

Los Angeles — The role of female talk show hosts in late-night TV broadcast network history, all 50-plus years of it, can be summed up in two words: Joan Rivers. It takes just another two – Arsenio Hall – to do the same for minorities.
There's no indication that's going to change in the latest round of musical chairs involving "Tonight" and "Late Night." All the NBC, ABC and CBS showcase jobs at 11:30 p.m. Eastern and later appear likely to remain securely in white men's hands.
Jay Leno is handing off to Jimmy Fallon, with speculation tagging Seth Meyers as his likely successor. Meanwhile, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, Craig Ferguson and Carson Daly are sitting pretty, without the faintest drumbeat of a pair of advancing high heels to signal a threat.
There have been alternatives bandied about – Chelsea Handler, black comedian-writer Aisha Tyler – but no hints they or others are getting traction.

Celebrity Apprentice 2013 eliminated Claudia Jordan in episode 4 tonight. Tonight's show kicked off with conversation footage. Omarosa was totally shocked that La Toya Jackson didn't pick her to get fired in the last episode. They also showed Stephen Baldwin giving his charity the $50,000 he won as the winning project in the last episode. Next, Trump gave the celebs their task, which was to promote Farouk Systems hair products, using a glass truck, and they would be judged on creativity, brand messaging, and overall experience. Marilu Henner took over project manager duties for team Plan B,and Claudia Jordan decided to be project manager for team Power. The winning project manager won 50,000 with a chance of getting up to another 50,000 for getting a dollar for every Facebook "like" they could get on a fan page they created. Arsenio Hall and Don Trump Jr. were the two advisers. Next, the team went over...

On Sunday's (March 17) episode of "All-Star Celebrity Apprentice," La Toya Jackson and Stephen Baldwin were project managers as each team put on a live soap opera to promote Crystal Light Liquid. La Toya's team failed to impress the brand executives, so Stephen's team won $50,000 for Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.
La Toya's teammate Omarosa Manigault came under fire in the boardroom by the entire rest of the crew for not actually participating in the challenge. She explains to Arsenio Hall, who is filling in for Piers Morgan, that she had to go handle a situation with the media airing a 911 call from her late fiance, Michael Clarke Duncan. Omarosa shed a lot of tears -- oddly, they were invisible tears, despite all her dramatic sobbing -- as she explains (again and again ... and again), "I will never choose a soap opera over Michael."

With Arsenio Hall officially returning to late night thanks to a deal with CBS Television Distribution, some people thought that meant CBS darling Craig Ferguson would be getting the boot. On Tuesday night's "The Late Late Show," however, Ferguson assured his audience that he's sticking around.
During his monologue, Ferguson joked about Hall replacing him before welcoming him back to the "late night club house" where he said there's "always room for more."
He also offered Hall a piece of advice:
"Welcome back, but when you come to the dinners, don't sit between Jay and Conan."
Hall, who signed a contract with Cbstvd to host a syndicated talk show debuting in the Fall of 2013, won't be replacing Ferguson, who recently renewed his contract with CBS along with David Letterman until 2014. But with late night TV being a notoriously competitive arena, it's no surprise that Ferguson felt compelled to address the news of Hall's comeback.

We reported yesterday that Celebrity Apprentice winner Arsenio Hall will return to late-night TV in the fall of 2013. As witnessed in a recent Inside TV podcast prior to his Apprentice victory, Hall is both a gracious guy and a gifted gabber. But, nearly two decades after The Arsenio Hall Show went off the air, Hall faces an entirely new TV landscape. With more channels and an exodus of new generation late-night icons like Conan O’Brien and fellow stand-up comedians Chelsea Handler and Kathy Griffin to cable, can a post-millennial Arsenio work? The late-night TV schedule is already jam-packed with veterans (Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien), a few (relative) newbies (Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel) and real night owls (Craig Ferguson, Carson Daly). But there's always room for one more, especially when that name is Arsenio Hall. The former talk show host and recent "Celebrity Apprentice" winner will be back on the air with a new show in September 2013, nearly 20 years after the 56-year-old comic flamed out. According to the Los Angeles Times, Hall will take a shot at a TV comeback with another syndicated program. The show will be broadcast at 11 p.m. through syndicator CBS Television Distribution and the Tribune Co., which will put it on the air on its 17 TV stations, including such powerhouses as Wgn-tv...

When it was announced back in January that Arsenio Hall was one of the new participants in this season's Celebrity Apprentice on NBC, I criticized him for joining the show (Read Here). I wondered what self-respecting black person would agree to appear in a show with such a blatant racist big like Donald Trump. Well, in case you have't heard, Arsenio was the winner this season (I suspect more likely so Trump could prove that he isn't a racist pig, but who's buying that?). However, winning this season looks like it may have done some good for Hall. Media reports everywhere are buzzing about word that Arsenio has gotten some newfound interest from some networks, about...

Call it a comeback! Arsenio's dreams of returning to late-night TV are already coming to fruition. Well, that didn't take long! Less than 24 hours after Arsenio Hall was crowned this season's Celebrity Apprentice, HollywoodLife.com has learned exclusively that both Fox and TBS are interested in bringing the former talk-show host back to late night television. Our source explains that Fox is considering a weekly format for Arsenio — his show would likely air Saturday nights against Saturday Night Live on NBC — while TBS is floating the idea of pairing Arsenio's show with Conan O'Brien's on weeknights. There's even been talks about a show that could air in the morning, then replay at night. But much like Rome, Arsenio's comeback won't be built overnight. Regardless of which network he decides to use as his late-night vehicle, the earliest a new show would debut is the fall. [polldaddy poll=6245837] — Written by Andy Swift,...

Time started moving in slow motion for Arsenio Hall when Donald Trump named him the winner of "The Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC Sunday (May 20) night, but the win and publicity surrounding the show could potentially put his return to show business on the fast track.
Arsenio tells Zap2it Monday that his business manager has been on the phone all morning following the former late-night host's big win.
"And I hope it's more than Walgreens," Arsenio jokes, referring to one of the show's featured sponsors during the season.
Arsenio beat out fellow finalist and "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken, but there's no bad blood between these two, who dueted on a performance of "Lean On Me" during the live finale. But what about between Arsenio and Aubrey O'Day, with whom he famously had a falling out during the season?

Do you think Arsenio deserved his victory, or was Clay totally shafted? Vote now! How many of you were surprised when Donald Trump told Arsenio Hall he was hired on the May 20 season finale of The Celebrity Apprentice? Oh, everyone? Me too, because it seemed that all signs were pointing to Clay Aiken as this season's champion. Not only did Clay's team earn more for his charity — he raised $301,500 while Arsenio only raised $167,000 — but nearly every returning contestant polled said they expected Clay to win. So what happened? The Donald attempted to justify Arsenio's win during a May 21 appearance on the Today show — he explained that Arsenio remained undefeated throughout the competition, while Clay lost one week as Project Manager — but I'm not buying it. Doesn't everything in the business world come down to the almighty dollar? I'm no Trump, but I'd rather have someone like Clay at the helm of my company,...

HollywoodNews.com: Another season of ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ has come and gone with one person winning the final challenge last night.
Donald Trump ended up firing Clay Aiken last night which means that he crowned Arsenio Hall the winner, states RadarOnline. With winning, Arsenio earned $250,000 for his charity, the Magic Johnson Foundation.
The final competition required both men to create a variety show and a 30-second PSA for their charities. While Clay earned almost twice as much with his fundraiser, Arsenio won the grand prize.

Eighteen celebrities entered Donald Trump's boardroom during the first episode of this season's "The Celebrity Apprentice," but in the end it all came down to former late-night host Arsenio Hall and "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken. So who emerged victorious, winning $250,000 for his charity?
Trump announced Sunday (May 20) night during the live "Celebrity Apprentice" finale that Arsenio is the winner.
For their final challenge, Arsenio and Clay were tasked with creating an ad and a fundraising event with a variety show for their respective charities -- the National Inclusion Project for Clay and the Magic Johnson Foundation for Arsenio. Clay and Arsenio both created great videos and events, entertaining the crowd with a stellar comedy lineup -- including Adam Carolla and Lisa Lampanelli -- and singers like Debbie Gibson and Aubrey O'Day. In the end, Arsenio's team raised more than $160,000, while Clay's team raised an astounding $301,500.

Clay Aiken Vs. Arsenio Hall! Do you think the right celebrity was hired? A season of boardroom battles and charitable cat fights came down to The Celebrity Apprentice's live finale May 20, and even though the final two contestants couldn't have been any more vanilla — it was beloved good-guy Arsenio Hall against beloved good-guy Clay Aiken — I was still biting my nails until Donald Trump finally announced his decision to hire... Arsenio! That's right, the forever-in-second-place comedian finally came in first — and to be honest, I was pretty surprised! Not only did Clay's team earn more money ($301,500) than Arsenio's ($167,000), but most of the returning contestants polled predicted his victory without hesitation. But before we head to the comments section and debate whether or not the right celebrity won, can we all just agree that Clay and Arsenio's duet of "Lean On Me" was a beautiful moment of television?...

Clay Aiken and Arsenio Hall faced off in one final challenge Sunday night. The duo, with the help of former Celebrity Apprentice competitors, were given the task of putting together a variety show and throwing a party to benefit their respective charities. Broadcasting live from NYC's Museum of Natural History, Donald Trump announced the newest winner of Celebrity Apprentice… Arsenio Hall! The 56-year-old comedian was elated, putting his head down on the table then raising his hand to the sky. He and Clay hugged, and the American Idol runner-up (and now Celebrity Apprentice runner-up) congratulated his competitor and friend. And while Arsenio took home the prize, both men were...

"American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken was a contender from the outset on NBC's "The Celebrity Apprentice," making it clear that he's not up for coming in second place again. While his co-finalist Arsenio Hall, though still a hard worker throughout the season, mostly established a reputation for losing it with teammate Aubrey O'Day and letting loose a tirade of choice expletives about the pop singer.
Donald Trump and others seemed satisfied that Arsenio stepped up and apologized for his actions, but many fans -- and Aubrey herself -- still have a bad taste in their mouths about the former talk show host. But will it cost him the win on Sunday (May 20) night? Will it have any impact at all on Trump's decision?
