- Quotes
Dirk: Some people collect stamps. Some play a bit of golf. For me, it was butt-sculpture. Fag-modelling. Turning dirty old stogies into works of art. Started off with a small camel gumbie, then moved on. Trojan horse. Steam train. One day I plan to do the Crash of the Hindenberg. It's a lot like fishing - you get stinky fingers doing that, too.

I simply love this film! It has it all! The late great Paul Chubb chews the scenery with a screen presence that few Australian actors have been able to achieve. To hell with Mel and Colin, this guy has all the weapons. Hiss feel for comedy is top drawer and the dark nature of this brilliant piece of Oz screen genius fits him to a tee. The cast throughout is solid - Susan Lyons is wonderful as the deceptive yet flawed Sandra and that ageless actor Les Foxcroft as the savant- like Mickey makes for great viewing. The direction on this film is handled with confidence from first time director Young. He knows what he is after and effortlessly sets out to achieve it. The script is a corker, full of great gags and hidden subtleties. The Italians I hear LOVED this film (it cleaned up at FantaFestival in the '90's) and that alone makes me want to travel to Italy to enjoy their sense of humour and savour their taste. The fact that the film didn't do so well in Australia is further confirmation that the Australian film audiences wouldn't know their backsides from their elbows (there! that got around the censorship regulations). Hire this film, find it anywhere - and you won't be disappointed. Excellent! 10/10
