Netflix is all set to add The First Slam Dunk anime film to its platform, as revealed by its official X account. The film will be available for streaming in 75 countries, including the United States, starting on Aug 25, 2024.

According to Netflix, the decision to bring The First Slam Dunk to the platform is part of the streaming giant’s ongoing efforts to expand its anime offerings for its global audience.

In Japan, the film already started streaming exclusively on the platform on June 10.

The First Slam Dunk movie released in Japanese theatres on Dec 3, 2022.

US actor Geraldine Chaplin and the Netherlands’ Jonas Smulders have joined the cast of US-Belgian filmmaker Jessica Woodworth’s drama Fortress.

Filming on the drama got underway this week in Sicily, and will run until October 5.

Woodworth has written the screenplay for the film, adapted from Dino Buzzati’s 1940 Italian novel The Tartar Steppe. It is about a young solder, hungry for battle, who embeds himself in an isolated fort where men wait in vain for an enemy to strike.

Knowing that this season came to an end three episodes before it was meant to, it’s honestly so difficult to judge the final episodes of Supergirl Season 5. Presumably, any resolutions we see in next week’s makeshift finale will, of necessity, not be terribly satisfying. There are plenty of overarching problems in Season 5 that are worth discussing: the fact that the Leviathan story has been a dud from jump, that the show let Lex Luthor take over a story that should have focused on Lena, and the season’s general abandonment of the “dangers of technology” theme it initially promised to tackle this season.

It’s a macro problem that’s apparent in this week’s episode as well, as “The Missing Link” is a largely workmanlike hour that seems more concerned with moving pieces into place for what’s still...

One of the ideas that sadly never came to pass for The CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” involved Nicolas Cage appearing as Superman. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim even approached Cage, a lifelong Man of Steel fan, to show up in the special as his character from the canceled Tim Burton movie Superman Lives. Like a planned cameo from Michael Keaton as Batman though, this idea didn’t pan out, but that hasn’t stopped a fan from imagining what Cage’s Kal-El might have looked like.

As shown in the below image by Instagram user britedit, a current-era Cage is seen as Superman in a costume that partly references the screen test of the actor from the 1990s. Best known for his directorial debut Re-Animator, as well as indie horror favorites From Beyond and Abel Ferrara’s Body Snatchers, the latter of which he wrote, Gordon was also the co-creator of the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids franchise. He wrote the first film with an eye to direct, and he would go on to produce the sequel Honey, I Blew Up the Kid and write on the TV series.

Gordon was born in Chicago on Aug. 11, 1947. He apprenticed as a commercial artist before majoring in theater at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In 2005, he directed a film adaptation of Mamet’s “Edmond,” starring William H. Macy. Other films include “Fortress,” “Castle Freak” and “King of the Ants.”

What is more comforting for a man who is grieving: a world of puppets or immersing one’s self in the seemingly simpler time of the 1960s? For Jeff Piccirillo aka Mr. Pickles (Jim Carrey) of “Kidding,” it seems to be the latter.

The second season of Dave Holstein’s Showtime comedy has expanded its worlds-within-the-world outward from “Puppet Time,” Jeff’s children’s television show, to also include a “nostalgia center,” which Jeff visits to deal with another death.

“We kept thinking, ‘Emotionally, where would Jeff want to go?’” says Holstein. “We thought about Superman’s Fortress of Solitude — the one place Superman could go where he’s not Superman. And we thought, ‘What is the place where Jeff goes where he can escape himself?’”

When it comes to the world of franchise moviemaking, space really is the final frontier. Boldly going where no previous entry has gone before represents an easy win for a studio looking to enliven a particular film property. The Fast and Furious franchise is the latest to be weighing up one giant leap for mankind with Chris Morgan, the writer of Hobbs & Shaw, open to taking Dominic Toretto et al into space.

"I would never shoot down space," Morgan told Entertainment Weekly. "Never, never. I would literally never shoot down anything, as long as it hits the parameters: 'Is it badass? is it awesome? Will the audience love it? And will it not break faith with the audience as they're watching it?' I'm down for whatever.

If you were hoping that Supergirl episode "Tremors" would involve Kara fighting off some giant, underground worms, then you would have been disappointed. Frankly, I think the story might have been better if it had gone in that direction. Up until this point, Leviathan has been a pretty intimidating villain—shadowy, omniscient, and very mysterious. But the more we learn about Leviathan, the less intimidating they become.

We learned a fair amount about Leviathan in tonight's episode. Sadly, the Older Woman (played wonderfully by Patti Allan) is not the head honcho of the organization. Iconic Chinese and Hollywood directors Frant Gwo and Roland Emmerich did not take the stage together at the Shanghai International Film Festival, but on Monday they got the chance to praise each other’s movies and share insights into sci-fi.

“I totally understand why it did well,” said “Independence Day” director Emmerich of Gwo’s recent “Wandering Earth,” a film which earned more than $680 million at the Chinese box office and has launched a wave of interest in Chinese sci-fi projects.

“It has lots of effects. It is good quality. And it is very Chinese, in that it is the story of a group of people, not just about a single person,” said Emmerich speaking at a panel discussion about sci-fi and technology.

Maipo Film, the well-established Norwegian company behind critically acclaimed series “State of Happiness” has unveiled details of “The Fortress,” an eight-part dystopian thriller drama which has been ordered by leading Scandinavian streaming service Viaplay.

Produced by Maipo Film’s Synnøve Hørsdal and Ales Ree, “The Fortress” is one of the buzzy projects set to be presented at Series Mania’s Co-Pro Pitching Sessions.

Created and written by John Kåre Raake (“The Wave”) and Linn-Jeanethe Kyed (“Børning 2”), “Fortress” is set in the near future in Norway which has chosen to sever all ties with the rest of the world. The “space / future prison” genre has a long and honourable history. Well, okay, neither of those things are true, but there are certainly plenty of them. From the classic “Escape From New York”, to 1990’s “Moon 44”, to “Alien 3”, both “Fortress” movies, 1997’s “Moonbase”, “Assault On Dome 4”, then getting further down the quality scale to “Starfire Mutiny” and “Total Reality” (there are plenty of others), audiences have been delighted by the implausibility of sending your worst criminals into space when it would be a great deal cheaper and easier to put them in a vault at the bottom of the ocean, or something, for 40 years.

The latest addition is “Incoming”, which first piqued my interest due to its casting of Scott Adkins. Adkins is B-movie royalty – you might recognise him from small roles in “Doctor Strange” and the second “Expendables”, but although his filmography sounds like...

Leading Norwegian company Maipo is developing “Fortress,” an ambitious dystopian thriller, and is preparing the second season of “State of Happiness” (“Lykkeland”), the historical series which is competing this week at Canneseries.

“Fortress” is created and penned by two high-profile Norwegian screenwriters: John Kåre Raake, whose track record includes Nordic blockbusters such as “The Wave,” Roar Uthaug’s disaster movie, and “Ragnarok, a family film based on Viking mythology;” and Linn-Jeanethe Kyed, who notably co-wrote “Børning” and “Børning 2,” a action-comedy movie franchise set in the world of illegal sports car racing, and Benjamin Ree’s critically acclaimed documentary feature about the Norwegian chess prodigy, Magnus Carlsen.

“Fortress” takes place in a near future in Norway which is now secluded from the rest of the world by a wall built by the nationalistic government. Norwegians live in absolute sovereignty, relying only on their own homegrown resources and caring solely about national affairs.
