Exclusive: CAA has signed actor Tyriq Withers for representation.
Most recently, Withers wrapped as the lead opposite Marlon Wayons in Him (formerly Goat), Universal Pictures’ psychological horror film from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. The project centers on a promising young athlete who is invited to train with a team’s retiring star. Wayans plays the legendary quarterback, with former college athlete Withers as his protégé.
Justin Tipping (Kicks) directed the pic from a Black List script by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. Others in the cast include Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, comedian Jim Jefferies, and musical artists Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack. The film is slated for a wide theatrical release on September 19, 2025.
Prior to Him, Withers was perhaps best known for his role on FX’s Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning comedy series Atlanta, created by and starring Donald Glover. His performance as Aaron, a biracial high school student...

Could you imagine David Duchovny as Danny Tanner, Joey Gladstone, or Jesse Katsopolis on Full House? Well, it could have happened, as the actor recently revealed on his Fail Better podcast that he auditioned for each one of those roles.
Duchovny obviously didn’t get the parts, but at the time, he was certain it was going to happen. “I auditioned for all three parts on Full House,” Duchovny said. “At first, they had me for, I think, the dad. And then they had me for the Stamos character. And then they had me for the other guy. I was thinking, ‘I’ve got to get one of these, and it’s going to change my life.’” At the time, Duchovny was a struggling actor who was auditioning for a lot of different pilots. “I had plenty of those pilots that I went up for when I was first out in L.

Oscar winner Jordan Peele is the mastermind behind the smash hit horror films Get Out, Us and Nope. If you enjoyed those films, you'll be glad to know that Peele isn't done exploring the horror genre. He has a new horror flick slated to come out in the fall of next year, and it's called Him. More on this film below.
Previously titled Goat, Him is produced by Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions. Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal Watson also produce the film under the Monkeypaw Productions banner. David Kern and Monkeypaw’s Kate Oh are signed on as executive producers, while American television director and screenwriter Justin Tipping is helming the movie from a screenplay that was written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie.
Tipping is best known for writing and directing the adventure film Kicks, and helming episodes of the TV shows The Chi, Twenties, Flatbush Misdemeanors and Joe vs. Carole.

The biggest issue with Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is perhaps the title itself. Otherwise, I don’t have much of a problem with this film. Puritans might find the very idea of a remake blasphemous, but I don’t mind them as long as they’re something like the recent “Roadhouse.” The 2024 remake of the film has a lot going in its favor. The story gets a necessary Gen-z update; the lead character (and her family) being black adds value to the whole thing, and the performance of the young cast is very much on point. As this is basically a feel-good teen comedy, it has a pretty conclusive and expectedly happy ending. You still might have questions about the babysitter, even though the film seems to be least bothered by her death—just saying!

Filling out the cast will be Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, Malcolm McDowell, and more.
The film is due in theaters on June 21st, released via Magnolia Pictures. Watch the trailer below.
Thelma first premiered this past January at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. In her review, Consequence’s Liz Shannon Miller praised the film’s mixture of comedy and genuine depth of feeling, calling it a “love letter to grandmas.”

A remake of the ’90s classic “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead” is coming to theaters in spring.
Simone Joy Jones, Nicole Richie and June Squibb will lead an ensemble including Jermaine Fowler (“Superior Donuts”), comic Ms. Pat, Olympian Gus Kenworthy, as well as newcomers Donielle Tremaine Hansley, Miles Fowler, Iantha Richardson and Tyriq Withers.
Like the 1991 film, “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” follows 17-year-old girl Tanya (Jones), who plans to vacation in Europe with her friends before heading to college in the fall. But her mom (Ms. Pat) decides to go to a wellness retreat in Thailand, so Tanya is forced to stay home with her siblings. When — as the title suggests — their elderly babysitter (Squibb) unexpectedly dies, Tayna gets a job working for an ambitious woman named Rose (Ritchie). Chicago – The truth is out there for David Duchovny, and he is definitely a seeker. The actor, best known for the TV series “The X Files” and “Californication,” has a new film in theaters opening February 14th, in which he portrays a father figure to the title character in “Adam the First.”
Duchovny is James, who is raising Adam (Oakes Fegley). When the boy is old enough to understand, James tells him he’s not his biological father. As Adam gets to be a teenager, his education is mostly about survival, as James keeps him off the grid in trailer in the woods. When the past catches up with them, Adam has to make his escape, but not before learning that three men named Jacob could possibly be his real father. The young teen must strike out on his own to find his roots, encountering the possibilities along the journey.

Nearly four years have gone by since it was announced that Treehouse Pictures was developing a remake of the 1991 Christina Applegate cult classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (watch it Here) that would be directed by Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop and the Honey quadrilogy) from a screenplay by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People). All that was revealed about the project at the time was that it would be “a present-day retelling centered on a black family.” Then that’s the last we heard about it. Apparently it made its way through production while flying under the radar, though, because Film Ratings has revealed that the remake has already received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board… and it’s a surprising one. While the original film was rated PG-13, the remake has earned an R rating for “teen drug use, language and some sexual references.”

The 1991 black comedy Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead has become a cult classic over the years, and we first heard rumblings about a modern day remake back in 2020.
Deadline had reported at the time that a “diverse remake” of the ’90s movie was in the works from Treehouse Pictures, said to be a “present-day retelling centered on a Black family.”
In that original May 2020 report, Deadline noted that Bille Woodruff was attached to direct a script written by Chuck Hayward (“Dear White People,” “WandaVision”), with the studio teasing a “new interpretation that is as funny and outrageous as the original but also smart and connected to the world today.”
So what’s the latest on the Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead remake? Well, an official listing from the MPA this week reveals that the upcoming film is rated “R,” which comes as a bit of a surprise considering...

Thanks in part to its memorable name becoming a punchline, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead has enjoyed a life well beyond its 1991 theatrical run. Though it was far from being a runaway box-office hit at the time, it had enough name recognition to eventually become a cult classic through home video and streaming. Speaking at a fan event, Keith Coogan — who played the family’s second-oldest child (behind Christina Applegate) — talked about how the film wound up with its unusual title.(Click on the media bar below to hear Keith Coogan) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Keith_coogan_Dont_Tell_Mom_Baby_sitter_is_Dead_.mp3

Christina Applegate has sealed her place in pop culture with the lovable ditz Kelly Bundy on Married with Children, as well as with the cult fanbase of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead and, of course, the Anchorman films. The actress has also recently been public about her struggles with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. Deadline is reporting that now that Dead to Me has wrapped, Applegate will likely never act in front of the camera again.
Applegate recently spoke about her time acting with co-star Linda Cardellini, “Ping-pong is so much more fun when the other person is just as good as you are. I’m probably not going to work on-camera again, but I’m so glad that I went out with someone who is by far the greatest actress I’ve ever worked with in my entire life, if not the greatest human I’ve ever known.”

This episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series was Written and Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Adam Walton, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here’s the text of the video script:
I think 1991 shaped my life before I even realized it did. Aeon Flux, Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains It All, Liquid Television, The Addams Family, People Under the Stairs, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, and of course, Eerie, Indiana.
All those shows and movies I just mentioned, I can still enjoy just the same as I did then. A few of them actually get repeat viewings throughout the year. There was something cool about these shows made for kids and teens around this time– they weren’t dumbing it down. Kids felt like they were watching something that they could experience for themselves– it was something that felt real. These...

Who doesn’t love a heart-warming pet story? Rob Lowe stars as the dad in the father-son story of their search for their lost dog, Gonker. The trailer for the Netflix film finds its way online and features a journey through the wilderness as they encounter various colorful characters like tough bikers, news reporters interested in their story, and new-age hippies. Usually, films like these showcase the viewpoint from the dog’s perspective as the canine usually encounters a number of obstacles through their adventure in unknown territory, much like 90s family films, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and Milo & Otis.
The plot synopsis from Netflix reads,
“After a young man and his beloved dog are separated on the Appalachian Trail, he and his father must begin a desperate search to find him before it’s too late. Based on an incredible true story of humanity and everyday heroism.Based...

Christina Applegate was a major “It girl” of the late 80s and 90s, having broken through as the ditzy but sultry Kelly Bundy on Married with Children, which aired on the then-young network Fox. Applegate would eventually find a career in film in comedies like The Sweetest Thing, Bad Moms, and of course, the Anchorman movies. Applegate sits down with Variety to discuss the final season of her show, Dead to Me, as well as the struggles with continuing her career after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021.
The actress was asked about her experience working in the popular Anchorman films alongside Will Ferrell, and she had this to say,
Veronica Corningstone was an experience that gave me the confidence to improv, because I had never done that before. And that was so frightening. These guys — let me preface this by saying, the best men I’ve ever known. The most respectful,...

Christina Applegate began acting as a small child, but when “Married … With Children” premiered on Fox on April 5, 1987 as the nascent network’s first primetime show, she officially began her 35-years-and-counting career. After playing the iconic dummy Kelly Bundy for 11 seasons, she went on to other starring roles on television, in film and was nominated for a Tony for the 2005 Broadway revival of “Sweet Charity.”
For this work — and much more — Applegate, 50, will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Nov. 14. It’s the fulfillment of “a lifelong dream,” Applegate said, one born out of standing on the Walk of Fame while waiting in line as a kid to see movies on Hollywood Boulevard. “I remember going, ‘I want to have one of these!’” she recalled. “My whole childhood was like that — wow, these stars.”

Christina Applegate is a child of Los Angeles, and one of her most salient memories of growing up here is of standing on the Hollywood Walk of Fame while waiting to go into a movie. In a recent interview, she recalls going to see “Star Wars,” which had a line that snaked around the block. “That’s where you went,” Applegate, 50, says of trekking to Hollywood’s movie theaters. “And you stood on those stars, and you thought: ‘Who are these people? Did they do something magical?’”
Over the course of Applegate’s career — she received her SAG card at age 5 in 1976, and in April 1987 “Married … With Children” launched her into stardom for 35 years and counting — she has indeed done myriad magical things. Another month, another rotation of titles coming and going across all of our favorite streaming platforms. October is always a huge month for Hulu, as their annual "Huluween" celebration includes a flurry of beloved horror favorites and terrifying new originals to satisfy monster kids of all ages. Unfortunately, this means that a lot of really great films will leave the platform at the end of the spooky season too, and with licensing rights constantly changing hands, this isn't exclusive to horror.
There's no telling where certain titles will end up once they leave a streaming service. While it's hopeful to believe a favorite film will just end up with one of the previous platform's competitors, there's never a guarantee. Fortunately, we keep a pretty watchful eye on where films wind up from month to month, but Hulu is about to have a massive purge of must-watch titles. Choosing five of...

The comics featuring art by David Hahn examine turbulence within the U.S.A. of the 1860s. In the series, the notorious Red Tom and his deadly posse have laid claim to the once prosperous town of Liberty Springs. But will these outlaws be able to savor their sinful victory when two black-clad, supernatural strangers suddenly arrive? Exclusive: Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model) has signed on for a role in Treehouse Pictures’ remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is heading into production in Los Angeles in July.
The original 1991 film, from director Stephen Herek, follows Sue Ellen “Swell” Crandell (Christina Applegate), a 17-year-old forced to take care of her four younger siblings after the babysitter hired by her mother dies while mom’s out of town. While the Warner Bros comedy also starring Joanna Cassidy, Keith Coogan, John Getz and Josh Charles didn’t land as a major hit, either critically or commercially, it has fostered a cult following in the decades since.
Treehouse’s remake is billed as a present-day retelling centered on a Black family. Banks will play Cassidy’s character Rose, a fashion executive at General Apparel West, who takes a chance on Swell by hiring her as an executive assistant.

Fittingly enough, “Three Months” is a movie about waiting, and while 12 weeks may seem like an eternity to its openly gay lead character, Caleb (Australian pop star Troye Sivan), it’s nothing compared with the decades others have spent waiting for a project like this to come along. Here, readily available to anyone with a Paramount Plus subscription, is a frank, affirmational portrait of a contemporary queer teenager. Writer-director Jared Frieder’s feature debut feels like the LGBT equivalent of “Juno”: snappy and refreshingly nonjudgmental in dealing with the consequences of a risky one-night stand.
In 2011, when the movie is set, it takes three months for an antibody test to conclusively determine whether someone who might have been exposed to HIV was in fact infected. That’s a simple rule of the road for sexually active gay men, but one rarely discussed in popular culture. It can hardly be...

The Challenge is making the jump from MTV to CBS.
Paramount announced a series order for The Challenge: CBS, which will air in the Summer.

The contestants in the series would be vying for a spot on The Challenge's War of the Worlds championship event series on Paramount+.
They would compete against contestants from the just announced The Challenge: Argentina, The Challenge: Australia, and The Challenge: UK.
The Challenge is going global, and this could be a great way to introduce new competitors into the franchise.
MTV used to have feeder shows to bring new blood into The Challenge, but in recent years, we've had contestants from Big Brother, Shipwrecked, Survivor, and Love Island.

Though he hasn't made much of a mark in the last decade.
