The band played five songs from each album during the two-hour, 15-song set in San Diego, kicking off the evening with “Caught Somewhere in Time” and “Stranger in a Strange Land” from Somewhere in Time. Maiden then dove into Senjutsu with “The Writing on the Wall,” “Days of Future Past,” and “The Time Machine.”
The setlist was broken up by the occasional non-Senjutsu/Somewhere in Time song, such as “The Prisoner” from The Number of the Beast as well as “Can I Play with Madness” (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son), “Fear of the Dark,” and “Iron Maiden.” For the three-song encore,...

Plot: A deep dive into the life of Christopher Reeve, from his overnight stardom as Superman through to his life after the tragic accident which left him a person with quadriplegia.
Review: When I heard Sundance would be showing a documentary about the life of Christopher Reeve, I correctly assumed that it wouldn’t leave a dry eye in this house whenever it was screened. Indeed, as the premiere screening wound up, the sobs from the audience were pronounced, and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is certainly a heartbreaking experience. Now that the film is getting a limited theatrical run (from Fathom Events), with an expansion rumoured for later this month, fans everywhere will get to shed a tear and be inspired by this icon.

Everyone matures a little when they learn that tragic heartbreaks don’t happen just in the movies, but in real life, too. It often takes people a personal incident to realize the gravity of a broken heart, and Christopher Reeve’s ex-girlfriend Jane Seymour knows this all too well. Deeply and madly in love with the late actor, her world came crashing down when he left her for his ex, Gae Exton.
Somewhere in Time (1980) | Credits: Universal Pictures
We can’t really blame Christopher Reeve, though. After all, he had just learned that Gae Exton was pregnant with their first child. As the actor decided to take her hand and stand by her, Jane Seymour was left behind with an ache in her chest, and anyone who had ever been heartbroken before would feel for her.

Ingress, as the film’s titles inform us, means the act of entering, or a way in. In the first feature film from writer/director/star Rachel Noll James, the entrance being sought is one into alternate dimensions. The seeker is Riley (Rachel Noll James), who has been left devastated by the death of her husband Toby. Complicating this is the fact she can still catch brief glimpses of him in dreams and visions that seem to indicate he’s alive in a different reality. Or may just be grief-induced hallucinations.
After hearing an interview with Daniel (Christopher Clark), a writer who believes he can channel entities from these alternate dimensions, she attends a presentation by him at the local library. During the presentation, he channels Lucas who refers to Riley by name,...

When the big-budget sci-fi/boxing flick hybrid "Real Steel" brawled its way into theaters on October 7, 2011, it was ridiculed by some as "Rock'em Sock'em Robots: The Motion Picture." On one hand, the $110 million-budgeted film's blockbuster pedigree of star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy did little to suggest the film was anything more than this. But anyone who grew up gorging on Rod Serling's original run of "The Twilight Zone" in syndication or reading the novels and short stories of Richard Matheson knew there was more to "Real Steel," at least in theory, than family friendly mechanical mayhem.
Obviously, with that budget, Disney (which distributed the DreamWorks production) wasn't going to sell the film primarily on its connection to a nearly 50-year-old black-and-white television show. As for Matheson, while he's considered a god of 20th century sci-fi/fantasy/horror literature by publishing heavyweights like Stephen King and Neil Gaiman,...

Dan Wallin, the music scoring engineer who recorded such classic film scores as “Spartacus,” “Bullitt,” “The Wild Bunch” and “Out of Africa,” died early Wednesday in Hawaii. He was 97.
Twice Oscar-nominated for best sound (1970’s “Woodstock” and 1976’s “A Star Is Born”), he won a 2009 Emmy for sound mixing on the Academy Awards telecast and received two additional Emmy nominations in the sound mixing category.
But it was Wallin’s skill behind the console, recording and mixing musical scores for movies and TV, that won him legions of fans among nearly all of Hollywood’s top composers and ensured steady employment for more than half a century.
He recorded the music for an estimated 500 films, including those for “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Finian’s Rainbow” in the 1960s; “The Way We Were,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Nashville,” “King Kong” and “Saturday Night Fever” in the 1970s; “Somewhere in Time,” “The Right Stuff...

To combat the ominous atmosphere of the Ides of March, Netflix has another Lindsay Lohan film, “Irish Wish,” which is now streaming. The follow-up to “Falling for Christmas” in Lohan’s deal with the streamer to make two films, “Irish Wish” focuses on love, luck and a little bit of magic in the rom-com that arrives right before Saint Patrick’s Day.
Lohan portrays a smart book editor, except when it comes to matters of her heart. It takes a wish granted by a mystical woman out in the beautiful Irish countryside to get Maddie to realize that what she hopes and dreams for might not be what she wants or should want in life.
Featuring music from Lohan’s younger sister, Aliana, and a guest appearance from her brother, Dokota, the cast is stacked with other familiar faces as well. We’ve rounded up the “Irish Wish” cast and...

On a Television Critics Association panel earlier this week, Andrew Lincoln teased that he and costar Danai Gurira “watched a lot of Bridgerton” to prepare for their characters’ romance in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
It turns out the Netflix binge was Gurira’s idea, as showrunner Scott M. Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter at the show’s L.A. premiere on Tuesday.
“There was some Bridgerton homework that Danai assigned,” Gimple said, to both he and Lincoln.
Lincoln and Gurira reprise their roles as Rick and Michonne in The Walking Dead spinoff series — as well as serve as executive producers — after both left the show before it came to an end in November 2022. After establishing themselves as a couple and becoming separated in the original series, the spinoff follows Rick and Michonne’s love story as they try to find each other amid the zombie apocalypse.

"Bones" went off the air in 2017 which, in the grand scheme of things, wasn't all that long ago. Even so, it already feels like something of a dinosaur as it's difficult to imagine any scripted show made recently running more nearly 250 episodes across 12 seasons. That's a heck of a run and, for the main actors on the show, specifically David Boreanaz (Booth) and Emily Deschanel (Brennan), they have to do something to pass the time week-to-week. For Boreanaz, it came down to pulling pranks on the directors sometimes.
In an interview with Build Series in honor of the series finale, Boreanaz was discussing some fun memories he had from working on the show for more than a decade. At one point, the actor explained that when director Jeannot Szwarc (of "Jaws 2" fame) would arrive to helm an episode of the series, he very much enjoyed messing with him. Here's...

Between 1959 and 1964, there wasn't a more consistently brilliant show on television than Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" — an accomplishment that's all the more amazing given its anthology concept. Every episode offered a completely new story, often in a completely different genre, from an occasionally different writer. Sure, the rotating staff was a murderer's row of scribes that included Serling, Richard Matheson, and Charles Beaumont, but, good as they were, they didn't have the safety net of writing for the same characters every time out. All they had was their imagination.
Considering Hollywood's risk-averse nature, it's a little surprising that more "Twilight Zone" episodes haven't been turned into full-blown features — at least, not as official remakes. Obviously, "Poltergeist" owes a massive creative debt to "Little Girl Lost" and it's hard to imagine "Child's Play" without the arsenic-laced genius of "Living Doll," but for straight-up adaptations there's Richard Kelly's "The Box...

It’s a case of one score to rule them all, as Howard Shore’s stirring epic soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings trilogy was voted the U.K.’s favorite movie music.
Shore’s score for the Rings film, which has won three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and four Grammys, came out ahead of some of the greatest and most recognizable soundtracks of all time, including John Williams’ music for Schindler’s List and Star Wars, which came second and third respectively.
The list of the top 100 film scores was compiled by popular U.K. radio station Classic FM, as part of their annual Movie Music Hall of Fame. More than 10,000 people voted for this year’s edition and the winner was revealed on Sunday by Jonathan Ross, the former presenter of the BBC’s Film program.

Actor Robert Swan, best known for roles in The Untouchables, Hoosiers, The Babe, and more, died on Wednesday. He was 78.
Swan died after a battle with liver cancer, a family friend confirmed to multipleoutlets.
Born in Chicago, Swan got his start in local theater — earning three Joseph Jefferson Award nominations — before his first film appearance in the 1980 film Somewhere in Time. He continued to work in film and television throughout his career, playing a Mountie captain in The Untouchables in 1987, and Deputy Napalatoni in 1994’s Natural Born Killers.
Two of his most high-profile roles came in sports movies. He played Rollin Butcher, the assistant coach to Gene Hackman’s Norman Dale in the 1986 high school basketball drama Hoosiers, and in 1992’s The Babe — which starred John Goodman in the titular role — he played Babe Ruth’s father, George Herman Ruth Sr.

On what would’ve been Christopher Reeve’s 69th birthday, Google honored the late Superman actor with a Doodle on its search page.
Appreciative of the gesture, his family noted Reeve’s courage, optimism, and achievement of impossible goals. No mention was made of Reeve’s involvement with the Church of Scientology or why he lost faith in the controversial religion.

Born Christopher D’Olier Reeve in New York City on September 25, 1952, Reeve honed his acting skills at Cornell University. He moved on to the prestigious Juilliard School and various European stages before turning his talent and good looks to the American soap opera Love of Life.
Reeve started working on the New York-based soap in 1975. According to his autobiography, Nothing Is Impossible: Reflections on a New Life, ’75 was the same year he looked into (and lost interest in) Scientology.

There's something for everyone on this list -- comedies, period pieces, musicals, fantasy, and more!
Somewhere In Time (1980)
If you love time travel romances (warning -- there will be quite a few here), the oft-forgotten Somewhere In Time is a must-watch.
Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour star as a playwright and an actress, respectively, who find each other on opposite ends of the century.
The cinematography has a dreamy, hazy quality, and the costumes and music fit the material perfectly.
The film has developed a dedicated following over the years, and if you're a sucker for sentimental romance, it's easy to see why.

This Riverdale review contains spoilers.
Riverdale Season 6 Episode 11
“Pop’s has endured for a reason, it’s Riverdale’s anchor.”
Every now and again a moment of television comes along that is so transcendent that it immediately embeds itself into the fabric of our pop culture consciousness: Walter White running around in his tighty whities in the Breaking Bad pilot, Six Feet Under‘s “Breathe Me” death montage, and now, Tabitha Tate drinking a milkshake from the Holy Grail in the latest episode of Riverdale.
Yes friends, this is a thing that actually occurred.
Why? The why is not important at this point. As I’ve said before in my breakdowns of the show the reasoning behind Riverdale in inconsequential as the show is an island unto itself.. Whee!
The appearance of the Grail was a throwaway moment in the episode, which shows you the level of confidence that the writing staff current has.

Plummer in "Battle of Britain" (1969).
By Lee Pfeiffer
Christopher Plummer, the world-acclaimed star of stage, screen and television, has passed away at age 91. Complications from a fall in his Connecticut home were cited as the cause of death. Plummer never had to make his way up the ranks on the big screen. He received prominent billing in his movie debut in Sidney Lumet's 1958 production of "Stage Struck"- and henceforth he would generally enjoy starring roles. Plummer moved with ease between films, stage and TV, earning critical plaudits along the way, as well as winning two Tony Awards and a late career Oscar for the film "Beginnings" in 2010. He was especially acclaimed for his work in Shakespearean productions in the U.S., England and Canada. Plummer, a native Canadian, became a legend by playing the male lead, Captain von Trapp, in the 1965 Oscar-winning film production of "The Sound of Music...

I have been a huge fan of Steven Spielberg’s 1980s series Amazing Stories for years… In fact since 1990/1, when our house got its first Vcr – a huge, heavy Philips front loader that was second-hand from my Uncle-in-Law. He’d got it in a trade at a local pub and sold it to us for a cheap price; well cheaper than the going rate of a Vcr back in those days! I was in heaven.
I rented each and every video tape I could from the local video library (this was in the pre-Blockbuster days) and among them was an old Cic Video rental release of Amazing Stories, which featured The Mission, Mummy Daddy and Go to the Head of the Class. After watching that tape I was hooked. I tracked down not only the ogther rental releases but also then bought the retail versions as well. And when the...

There’s almost no way to talk about “Amazing Stories” without invoking “The Twilight Zone.” Both shows, with initial seasons released less than a year apart, are reworkings of TV anthologies of decades past, executive produced by household name filmmakers, and exist as a gambit to cement another corner of a potential subscriber base for a streaming service.
Both also launched with a single entry, intended to kickstart a place in the cultural consciousness. For “Amazing Stories,” that opening is “The Cellar,” a romantic time travel story designed to ease viewers into the show rather than take them to uncharted territory.
“The Cellar” cribs generously from time-travel rom-com premises — most recognizably the 1980 Jane Seymour-Christopher Reeve gem “Somewhere in Time” — perhaps for the sake of simplicity. Boy joins his brother on a fixer-upper house-flipping gig. Boy gets trapped in a storm cellar during a once-in-three-generations storm. Boy hurtles back a century.

Jane Seymour has joined the cast of “The Hypnotist’s Love Story” pilot at ABC, Variety has learned.
In the show, after a string of failed romances, successful hypnotherapist Ellen is optimistic about her current boyfriend (Adan Canto). But then he reveals a disturbing truth: a stalker ex-girlfriend (Heather Graham) has been following him for years. Ellen finds herself intrigued – and oddly thrilled by the stalker, entirely unaware that they’ve already met.
Seymour will play Anne, Ellen’s mother. She is described as a stylish, independent single mother by choice who is confounded by her daughter’s longing for traditional romance.
In addition to Seymour, Canto, and Graham, the series will also star Liza Lapira.
Seymour is a multi-time Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominee, most of which were for her role on “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.” She won a Golden Globe for both that show and the TV movie “East of Eden.

Christopher Reeve, Back To The Future, About Time, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: join us as we examine time travel in romcoms...
Love is complicated enough without time travel. When time becomes a factor in a relationship, that relationship may be in trouble. In science fiction especially, time travel is a wrinkle that both brings lovers together and keeps them separate in some temporally devastating way.
Marty McFly almost breaks up his parents before they even get together. Kyle Reese falls in love with Sarah Connor when tasked with saving her life. Captain America misses out on a dance with Peggy Carter by getting frozen for 70 years. And, on TV, River Song and the Doctor experience their marriage in almost opposite directions.

Christopher Plummer had to wait until his eighties to receive any attention from Oscar voters. The long-awaited first nomination for the 2010 film “The Last Station” followed an acclaimed career in “The Sound of Music,” “The Man Who Would Be King,” “Somewhere in Time,” and “The Insider.” Even with the sympathy vote and at his age, he wouldn’t win that night, losing to Christoph Waltz in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” for Best Supporting Actor.

However, two years later, Plummer was offered the plum role of Hal in the indie dramedy Beginners starring Ewan McGregor. It was that role that did bring Plummer his first (and only, so far) Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He played an elderly man dying of cancer who reveals to his son that he is gay with a young male lover.
