"The Partridge Family" ruined Shirley Jones' career, but she's not complaining.
A film veteran with roles in hits such as "Oklahoma!" and "The Music Man," Jones said she was warned about taking on a TV role in the 1970s family series.
"Everybody told me don't do a television series because if you are that character you'll be the character for the rest of your life and your movie career will be in the toilet," Jones told Katie Couric on "Katie." "They were right!"
Jones is currently promoting her memoir and said she was happy to have played Shirley Partridge on "The Partridge Family" because it allowed her to spend more time with her kids.
"Katie" airs weekdays on ABC.

Shirley Jones joined the cul de sac crew -- albeit briefly -- on the latest episode of "Cougar Town." Jules convinced her and her husband to buy Grayson's house across the street. Jules, Grayson and Ellie quickly found that they loved the elderly lifestyle and started to embrace the early bedtimes and dinners.
But that's not why Shirley's character moved to the neighborhood. As she explained to Jules, "We came here to be around young people, and you seem to have already given up. I mean, you barely leave the cul de sac."
Jules referenced last week, saying that her husband made her play dodge ball and she got hit in the face. "You leave the house, you get hit in the face," she lamented. That statement proved prophetic when she joined Travis for a Penny Can tournament and Jules got hit in the face again.

One of the most talked-about screenings at this year's Sundance Film Festival is the premiere of Kevin Smith's 'Red State' on Sunday night at the Eccles Theater. Tickets have been sold out for weeks, as Smith has taken to the interwebs promising all sorts of entertainment -- from a live auction for the film's distribution rights following the screening to a pretty massive protest battle outside the theater just prior to the premiere.
'Red State' features Michael Parks as a religious fundamentalist based on Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church. Smith and Fred Phelps' daughter Shirley have been battling on Twitter practically every day leading up to this Sunday's screening, and Shirley has made it known that her and "her team" are heading to Utah to protest the film prior to it being shown.

It's a family affair next week at the Cabrillo Music Theatre. Legend of stage and screen Shirley Jones (Mrs. Partridge to us TV fans) and her son/Broadway star Patrick Cassidy (brother to Shaun and half-brother to David) are appearing together on stage for the holidays.
Shirley and Patrick are performing for four days in The Cabrillo 2010 Holiday Spectacular. For six performances only, catch the mother and son team as they make the season bright along with a cast of 30 dancers, singers and elves. Think of it as the Valley's homage to the Radio City Rockettes mixed in with a few old time TV family holiday specials a la Andy Williams or Bing Crosby.

Atwt in New York Times: Stay Tuned for Soap Stars’ Next Acts
When production at the As The World Turns studio in Brooklyn halted in June, New York was left with only one soap — One Life To Live, on ABC — and hundreds of actors plotting their next real-life story lines.
“It’s the loss of a creative environment as much as a loss of paychecks,” said Trent Dawson.
In interviews with actors who brought life to the soap’s fictional Oakdale, few said they were caught off guard by the show’s demise. Mr. Silbermann said he sensed a certain end-time mood almost immediately after joining the show in 2007. Veteran cast members, he recalled, “would say, ’Oh, man, if only you were here years ago, when location shoots meant going to Rome instead of Staten Island.’ You know, too bad.”

You most likely remember her as the mom on The Partridge Family, or maybe Marion the librarian from The Music Man. And though she's been out of the spotlight for a while, the 76-year-old Shirley Jones is still performing. She released an album a few years ago, still sings on stage from Florida to Arizona to London, and she does the occasional acting gig.
Working with her family (step-son David, and sons Shawn, Patrick, and Ryan) on Ruby & the Rockits did not fare too well. But her most recent role, Lola Zellman on The Cleaner, earned her an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
Lola, an alcoholic lounge singer, appeared in the episode called “Does Everybody Have a Drink?” which aired last July. Shirley faces some stiff competition in the category from Mary Kay Place, Sissy Spacek, Lily Tomlin, and Ann-Margret. But our money's on Shirley.

Debuting in 1970, The Partridge Family ran for four seasons and 96 episodes. The series follows single mom Shirley Partridge (Shirley Jones) and her five children Keith (David Cassidy), Lori (Susan Dey), Danny (Danny Bonaduce), Chris (Jeremy Gelbwaks, later Brian Forster), and Tracy (Suzanne Crough) who form a rock band to support themselves. The band is booked by flustered manager Reuben Kincaid (Dave Madden).

We have always wondered how Celebrity Big Brother bosses choose housemates for the show and this week Executive Producer Shirley Jones enlightened us on the matter.
She said:
“We have our celebrity bookers, and we all come up with a list of people we’d be interested in meeting. It can be difficult with celebrities, by the very nature of what they do, you don’t always get to know the real person underneath.
“Part of the beauty of Celebrity Big Brother is trying to peel off those layers and find the real person beneath the celebrity. So we want a mix of ages, genders, professions, backgrounds. Ideally we’d like celebrities who have never met one another, but it’s very difficult to be 100 per cent certain of who knows who.
“It’s an interesting challenge to get it right – do you provide great names that might not be as exciting as you hoped,...

We were almost as excited by the things we weren’t shown during our tour of the Celebrity Big Brother house today, as the things we were.
We will be revealing the pictures and our own take on the house at midnight but some features won’t be included in those snaps.
During the tour we noticed that the courtyard style garden was conspicuously empty, but Executive Producer Shirley Jones revealed to Unreality TV that there will be a large installation added at a later date. No clues as to what it is, but she promised that it would be surprising and impressive so we are itching to find out!
Shirley also revealed that they have received some strange requests from this years housemates and promised that one in particular will stand out.
She said: “We have had some odd requests. We are building something special for somebody but we can’t say what.

Celebrity Big Brother bosses have found themselves a bit short of space this year, after they decided to lift the one bag luggage limit.
During our tour of the new house today, Executive Producer Shirley Jones revealed that after they decided to allow the stars to bring as much luggage as they like into the house, they realised that they wouldn’t have enough space to store all the extra clothes.
Shirley revealed: “People are interested in what celebrities wear and how they do their hair and how long it takes them to get ready.
“And it will be funny to see who brings the most – and where they put it all.”
At first bosses tried to insist that the famous housemates fold their outfits and store them under the bed but the divas of the group refused and producers were forced to install an Ikea style canvas wardrobe in the kitchen storeroom.

Hefner Scraps Jones' Playboy Shoot
Playboy boss Hugh Hefner has scrapped plans to feature 75-year-old TV star Shirley Jones in his raunchy adult magazine - because the actress "wouldn't show enough" skin.
The former Partridge Family star's husband/manager Marty Ingels revealed in May he was pushing for his wife to disrobe in a tasteful pictorial.
But Jones admits her Playboy dreams were dashed because she refused to pose nude.
She tells the National Enquirer, "My children and friends said, 'Shirley, are you crazy? You're going to pose nude?' I replied, 'No, I'm not going to pose naked, but I am going to show the best parts of my body.' In the end, Hef (Hefner) didn't run it because I wouldn't show enough. But I had a great time and the pictures were fabulous."...

Are you ready to "get happy" once again? The Partridge Family is coming back to television. Interestingly, this isn't the first attempt at reviving the Partridge clan.
The Partridge Family debuted on September 25, 1970 on ABC. The light-hearted family sitcom tells the story of widowed mother Shirley Partridge (Shirley Jones) and her five children (Keith, Laurie, Danny, Chris, and Tracey) as they embark on a career in pop music. The kids were played by David Cassidy, Susan Dey, Danny Bonaduce, Jeremy Gelbwaks (later Brian Forster), and Suzanne Crough, respectively. Dave Madden played the family's long-suffering manager, Reuben Kincaid. Cassidy, Jones' real-life step-son, became a very popular teen idol during the show's run. The series ran for four seasons and spawned actual hit songs (most notably, " I Think I Love You ") and a few spin-offs.
