- Michael Alden is an amnesiac, who must discover his real identity before the operatives of a mysterious group locate him and kill him. The key to his past might be "Coronet Blue", a meaningless phrase he for some reason remembers.
- Mike was running from some men when he fell into the harbor. He climbed out remembering only that he was running and the phrase "coronet blue". As the show continued from week to week, Mike tried to piece together clues to his identity as individuals he referred to as "Greybeards" seemed to be intent on killing him.—John Vogel <[email protected]>
- A bright, young man meets a woman on a wharf. She brands him as not a true member of their mysterious organization. She gives her henchmen the sign to beat him to a pulp, remove any identification, place a ring on his right hand and dump him into the harbor. Leaving him for dead, he climbs out of the harbor into the hands of the police and ambulance attendant with just two words on his lips - Coronet - Blue. In the hospital, he awakes with amnesia - he knows nothing about his name, his past or how he came to be assaulted. His fingerprints turn up nothing; he is a man with no past or identity, and has a shaky future. Befriended by his doctor, he takes the doctor's first name and the name of the hospital for his last name. Thus, Michael Alden is born, and begins a search for his name and his past, often wearing his signature coronet blue shirt and carrying a duffle. As he leaves the hospital, he's followed by agents of the secret organization who try, unsuccessfully, to kill him at every turn. So, the seeds have been planted that he must be some sort of secret agent and knows something he must be captured or killed for. Or is he something even more? Michael is obsessively on the lookout for clues and people tied to the words Coronet Blue, often to the point of violence. Whether he is following up on leads about blue coronets (crowns), shot at by unknown agents, or is on the road, some people he meets do have bits of information for him. Sometimes, he misunderstands fleeting bits of memory. Sometimes there is nothing to discover about who he is. But in every episode, he learns something about the quality of his own character. No matter what happens, Alden is never too selfish to help others even if it may cost him a clue to his identity. Along the way, he seems to be a magnet for beautiful women who help him, woo him, and sometimes seek to kill him. There are helpful people in Alden's life, but we not always certain about their motives for being so helpful even though Michael does not seem to question any of them. He sincerely receives their friendship. Subtle clues are hidden within each episode which hint to possibilities about hints to his past or what path he might take in future episodes. We are also led to believe there are people who just might cross his path again for better or for worse. Whether this series would have returned to the vision of creator Larry Cohen, or continued on a different turn, we will never really know Michael's future - just like Michael still doesn't know his past.—BudzBuzz
