During the shearing contest, at the first break, Paddy (Robert Mitchum) collapses onto his seat, and his opponent is shown in the background getting his pipe out of his pocket, lighting up, and smoking. Then the camera cuts to a closeup of the opponent, and he again is shown getting his pipe out and lighting up.
When the camera shows the list of workers, the date on the top of the board states "Wednesday, May 17, 1928". May 17, 1928 was a Thursday.
During the horse race at the end, the camera is positioned ahead of the race, shooting back at the field of horses which is running towards the camera. In the lower right corner of the frame, the dust kicking up from the vehicle carrying the camera is visible and clearly separated from the field of horses. Also, to the right of the racing horses behind where they had just run, the tire marks from the camera's vehicle can be seen on the track.
During the scene filmed in the kitchen, bottles of ketchup and sauces with screw plastic caps are on the table. There were no such bottles produced in 1928.
After Ida and Sean cross the bridge to escape the fire, they look into the flames for Paddy. Through the smoke, a man can be seen tending the fire.
