It comes in handy when you have a brother for a detective and in the old west when he's a range detective so much the better. Of course when you've been planning a vacation and it looks like you're finally going to go to New York to see the big Apple, a summons from kin must be answered no matter how inconvenient.
Which is the position Tom Tyler finds himself in Brothers Of The West. The film opens with a homicide in connection with a robbery. A gang shoots and kills the bank president and Tyler's brother Bob Terry who is riding shotgun runs and hides the money before he's captured. That's why the gang doesn't kill him, Terry's hidden the loot before they could get it. But in the meantime the missing Terry is the number one suspect for the deed which is when Tyler enters the picture at the behest of his sister-in-law, Dorothy Short.
Brothers Of The West has the look and feel of a mystery although the culprit is revealed early on. Lois Wilde who is the daughter of the slain bank president is pursuing her own line of investigation as to the whereabouts of the stolen money. Of course in the end she teams up with Tyler in more ways than one.
This is not a bad B western at all, in fact with a little more polish and even a studio like RKO or Republic behind it, the film could have been an A picture product.
