I only watched this film because it starred 'Sophie Vavasseur'; and I loved her in 'Evelyn', although that was quite a few years ago...
Normally I can't stand exorcism movies. They all use pretty much the same story line, scares, dialogue and the same crappy makeup in order to portray the demonic possession. However, 'exorcismus' didn't. Without makeup and effects, the demonic possession is convincingly acted by the character 'Emma'; it is simply fantastic. Her acting, especially with her eyes is all you need to be convinced of her body invasion. I loved it. Sophie Vavasseur is such a talented actress.. even her British accent was flawless, considering she's Irish! Perfection. She's indeed very creepy at times.
Obviously, you can't have an exorcism film without a priest, the demon saying obscene things and a few deaths but I feel this film handed these things in such a way that it made it differ from the rest. I liked the twist.. that was good... I also really believed the family dynamic. This film was believable because their lives were so normal and mundane and they were still trying to act that way even though this 'demon' had possessed their daughter. I just found it incredibly believable unlike how it's portrayed in 'the exorcist.'
Overall, I really liked this movie. I liked the cast, the script, the twist, the fact it was a British Production; everything about it. I already recommended it to a friend and she thought the same as me.. the acting on Sophie's part was brilliant.
Watch it!
