As we all know the problem with prequels is we already know who lives and who dies. We know Dexter can't be caught, Deb and Harry can't do anything out of the norm. As prequels often do, there was some changes made. Some of these changes were minor, Dexter was about 3 when found in the container by Harry. Eli Sherman playing little Dexter appears to be about 5 or 6 years old.
Very obvious Sarah Gellar was brought into this for her name and not for any other point. I felt her role could have been played by any unknown actress. She has no character development or links to the story. I do appreciate her acting ability but it was unused here.
The over all plot of this season was just a recap of what we learned from the original series. There was no surprises, no moment of suspense, and they even pushed the characters Masuka and Batista into the background.
So why you ask, did I give this 8 star rating? It was unusually well done as prequels go. It is worth the watch, but in no way better than the original. Now they are working on Dexter: Ressurection, with Peter Dinklage being the big named draw. It seems a bit much don't you think?
