When this movie started, I thought it was going to be a light romance focussing on Paris. Suddenly, the girl's brother goes missing, the hotel room he checked in also goes missing and we have a full on mystery.

Excellent acting, this is really quite tense and I really couldn't imagine what the solution would be.

There is a wonderful sense of mood, period and authenticity.

Dirk Bogarde is barely seen in the first half of the movie but comes into his own later on.

Beautifully clipped British tones, Jean Simmons is a delight.

The ending was unexpected, somewhat shocking and yet kind of believable.

This was an unexpected gem.
