Kevin Flynn is a multifaceted filmmaker and artist, born in Flint, Michigan, and raised on the vibrant streets of the east side of Detroit. From an early age, Kevin found solace and inspiration in the world of music, dance, and film, nurtured by his immensely talented mother, Dian. She was a versatile musician, excelling in piano, clarinet, flute, as well as being a remarkable ballet dancer, jazz dancer, and singer. Her involvement in theater and acting ignited Kevin's passion for the arts, shaping his creative journey.
Despite facing numerous challenges and hardships, including years of child abuse and poverty, Kevin's determination and resilience propelled him forward. Writing became his sanctuary during these difficult times, with elementary school serving as a canvas for his imaginative plays and self-proclaimed movies. Through his storytelling, he found an escape from the harsh realities that surrounded him.
As destiny would have it, the emergence of hip-hop in Detroit captivated Kevin's heart, leading him to explore break dancing and eventually becoming a proficient lyricist known as Gangsta Krhyme. The fusion of music and storytelling further solidified his aspiration to create narratives on a larger scale.
While dreaming of having his work produced by major companies, Kevin's resourcefulness and passion led him to establish his own film production company. Leveraging the accessibility of DSLR cameras and affordable equipment, he ventured into making rap videos for local artists, honing his skills as a visual storyteller. It was during this time that Kevin released his first full-length film, "Thru the Course of a Day," showcasing his unique perspective and independent spirit.
Continuing to carve his path in the film industry, Kevin has since directed and produced various projects, including the self-made movie "Quarantine" and the thrilling short film "Retribution," which is currently undergoing a remake. His work also includes "The Virus," a captivating short thriller written by Pretty Lisa. Notably, his latest project, "The Weekend," is now available on Tubi, captivating audiences with its engaging story line.
What sets Kevin apart is his unwavering commitment to his craft. He writes, directs, edits, and shoots all of his films, embodying the essence of a "one-man band" in the filmmaking scene. His dedication to maintaining creative control over his projects ensures his unique vision remains intact, resulting in compelling and authentic storytelling.
