Gibson plays an alcoholic actor accused of violence against women in a comedy-crime thriller that would have been a lot more fun without him
The seemingly unstoppable rehabilitation of Mel Gibson continues with this Hollywood-set comedy-crime thriller in which Gibson is practically trolling us by playing Alastair Pinch, a close-to-the-bone version of himself a few years back. Pinch is an alcoholic actor accused of violence against women, although in the film his character is arrested for killing his wife, whereas in real life Gibson pleaded no contest to a battery charge. And yet, we’re supposed to think he’s charming and adorable because he can quote chunks of Hamlet and plays sweetly with his kindergarten-aged daughter (Sophie Fatu). At least this semi-satirical fiction, adapted by Howard Michael Gould from his own novel and efficiently directed by Brit Tim Kirkby, recognises that forgiveness is always around the corner for film...

“America’s Got Talent” judge Simon Cowell just can’t help himself. At the start of 20-year-old Joseph O’Brien‘s vocal performance during the Judge Cuts 2 episode, Simon interrupted the never-been-kissed Tennessee native and made him sing another song. Joseph chose something he wrote and ended up wowing Simon, Heidi Klum, Mel B, Howie Mandel and guest judge Olivia Munn. Thanks to Simon’s rude interruption, Joseph was able to show a different side of himself and ended up advancing to the “Agt” live shows. Chicago dance group The Future Kingz wowed “America’s Got Talent” during Tuesday’s Judge Cuts 2 episode with their breathtaking performance, but it was seven-year-old Rufio who stole the show. This little dancer, whom founding brothers Isaiah and Allen dubbed “slick handsome,” previously stole our hearts with his love of Dunkin Donuts. Now the entire dance crew had the audience and judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B, Howie Mandel and Olivia Munn on their feet, so they easily sailed through to the live shows. “Tonight I am gonna do something amazing, something that you never saw before … magic,” declared comedy magician Lioz Shem Tov on the Judge Cuts 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent.” For his first trick Lioz transformed a rubber glove into various objects including a baby, then said he was going to turn it into Donald Trump, but kept it the same as a baby. The “Agt” judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B, Howie Mandel and Olivia Munn — mostly loved Lioz’s silly act, but in the end they decided to eliminate him before he could advance to the live shows. Angel City Chorale, a 145-member choir from Los Angeles, CA, broke out in tears during the Judge Cuts 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent” when guest judge Olivia Munn pressed her Golden Buzzer following their performance of “Baba Yetu.” Choir director Sue Fink created the diverse group in 1993 “to give back to the community.” She noted, “Even the Republicans and Democrats can sit next to each other in our group.” Munn’s Golden Buzzer means that Angel City Chorale goes straight through to the live rounds of NBC’s reality TV show. “I need a bucket!” groaned “America’s Got Talent” host Tyra Banks in the Judge Cuts 2 episode after La Fontane Umane (aka the Human Fountains) performed their new act. The last time they appeared Simon Cowell wasn’t impressed by their sophomoric water-spitting, so this time around they upped the ante by spewing orange juice and a raw egg into each others’ mouths. Did you turn as green as Banks, or were you howling with laughter? Watch the “Americas Got Talent” performance video above, and then read the judges’ comments below.

Tuesday night during the Judge Cuts 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” five-year-old Sophie Fatu belted out Frank Sinatra‘s “New York, New York” as the youngest contestant in the history of the reality TV show. When Simon Cowell asked Sophie what she’d do with the $1 million prize, she responded adorably, “Um, I don’t really care that much. I just want to sing for everyone and make them happy.” Watch the “Americas Got Talent” performance video above, and then read the judges’ comments below.

Simon: “You know, Sophie, you are officially the youngest ever ‘America’s Got Talent’ contestant, do you know that? Sophie, that was really you singing? Honestly? Because that shouldn’t happen. You shouldn’t even be able to remember the words, let alone sing like that with the key change and everything.

After six weeks of episodes devoted to auditions, “America’s Got Talent” has moved on to the next stage of the competition — the judge cuts. The second of these four pre-taped episodes airs on July 24. Eighteen performers present their act in front of the “Agt” regulars — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B — as well as guest judge actress Olivia Munn.
By the end of the episode, these 18 acts will be winnowed down to just seven who will advance to the live quarter-finals. One of these will be extra special as they’ll have been hand-picked by Munn for the Golden Buzzer treatment. In so doing, she can overrule the other judges with and send her favorite act straight through.

America’s Got Talent returned on June 12 for Episode 3 of the season. The two-hour installment continued the audition phase of the reality competition show, with the four judges weighing in on more acts. During the second episode of the season, singer Michael Ketterer received the golden buzzer from Simon Cowell. It meant that he advances immediately to the live rounds. He joined the dance group Zurcaroh, who received the golden buzzer from host Tyra Banks during the season premiere. Episode 3 Recap After Tyra arrived on the stage dressed as an eagle, it was time to get right to the […]

Sophie Fatu may only be five but she is brimming with confidence and won over all four “America’s Got Talent” judges with her audition on the June 12 episode. While some may find her precociousness a bit too precious, the panel was captivated by her from the moment she strutted on stage. (Watch her audition video above.)
Fatu shamelessly made a pitch to Cowell, whom she called Mr. Simon, that he give her the golden buzzer before she had even sung a note. Rather than being put off by her, the crusty Cowell’s heart melted, especially after she delivered a surprisingly polished version of the Frank Sinatra classic “My Way.” As he readily admitted, “We weren’t expecting that.”

Cowell continued, effusive in his praise: “You are hilarious. I want you to date my son.

Season 13 of “America’s Got Talent” reaches the half point of the audition stage of the competition on June 12 with another two-hour episode showcasing the best (and worst) acts. In this phase of “Agt,” an act needs at least three of the four judges to give them a “yes” vote to advance to the next round. If at least two judges buzz the act, it is immediately eliminated. Each judge has one chance to hit the “golden buzzer” and send an act straight through to the live performances Cowell did just that in the second episode for singer Michael Ketterer while host Tyra Banks did likewise in the premiere when she flipped for dance troupe Zurcaroh.
