Cara Maria Sorbello‘s dream of a fourth championship came to an end on Wednesday night’s episode of The Challenge: Battle of the Eras. The Era II veteran was taken out by Era III’s Tori Deal in an elimination that lasted nearly three hours, treading water in the ocean off the coast of the Philippines. It was the last elimination before the this season’s epic final.

The Challenge: Battle of the Eras is approaching its grand finale, with the competitors getting closer to Tj Lavin’s final by the episode.

Former champions Johnny Bananas, Rachel Robinson, Jenny West, Tori Deal, Jordan Wiseley, and Cara Maria Sorbello are among those vying to win the season.

Michele Fitzgerald, Kyland Young, and Derek Chavez hope to reach their first final on MTV. Veteran Challenger Cory Wharton has been to the final but has never won The Challenge and hopes this will be his time to shine.

However, there will be a holiday break for new episodes of Season 40 before viewers get to see who claims that top prize.

Recent schedule details suggest viewers must wait several weeks after Episode 16 airs on MTV.

For at least part of the break, fans will get a special look at the next season of The Challenge: All Stars.

Michele Fitzgerald and Johnny Bananas had an intense feud during The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, stemming from Michele’s showmance with one of Bananas’ rivals.

Their heated conversations occurred after Bananas had warned Michele that her showmance interest, castmate Devin Walker, might use her as part of his game strategy.

However, Devin took exception to it, and following his elimination, Michele blasted Bananas for his comments and for targeting her and several allies.

During another episode, viewers watched Michele attempt to instigate Bananas while playing footsies with Aviv Melmed, his married castmate, on the cast’s bus ride.

In that episode, Bananas called out Michele for being “catty,” and Aviv later confronted her about what she said on the bus.

However, viewers never saw what transpired between Michele and Bananas after that incident, and a deleted scene has since arrived.

While The Challenge: Battle of the Eras featured some of the greatest champions competing on the show, other hungry players were looking to win their first season.

Among them was former Big Brother winner Josh Martinez, who has become a polarizing regular on MTV’s series.

He’s formed strong alliances in the game, creating bonds with many castmates, and that assisted him in surviving most of Season 40.

In particular, he aligned with the Vacation Alliance, a group of castmates who take trips during The Challenge offseason and then band together while filming to control the game.

With a cast like Season 40’s, it became tough for them to do that. Several of their group members were eliminated in one episode, fracturing the alliance.

After his aired exit in a recent episode, Josh spoke about where he stands with the Vacation Alliance, highlighting that he is not sure about working with a specific castmate again.

As The Challenge: Battle of the Eras continues its journey to the final on MTV, early speculation is underway about Season 41.

MTV’s new season has no official announcements yet, although host Tj Lavin could likely mention it before the end of Season 40.

The Season 41 speculation arrives ahead of The Challenge: All Stars 5 getting an official premiere date or cast reveal.

Based on early Season 41 rumors, some cast members that fans love to hate or enjoy cheering for won’t appear in the upcoming season.

Zach Nichols called out former castmate Johnny Bananas with recent criticisms about how he plays The Challenge.

Zach and Bananas last appeared as castmates during the War of the Worlds 2 season, where Bananas was an early elimination due to Cara Maria Sorbello and Paulie Calafiore’s votes.

Meanwhile, Zach hung around until the end of the season, reaching the final as part of Team USA with Cara, Paulie, and several other castmates. They ultimately lost to a four-person Team UK.

Bananas is currently part of the epic 40-person cast for The Challenge: Battle of the Eras and has recently been featured in quite a bit of drama.

That included him warning castmate Michele Fitzgerald over her showmance with Devin Walker, which riled up Michele, Devin, and Tori Deal. It led to plenty of drama and game moves aimed at one another.

During her most recent appearance, MTV’s Battle of the Eras, Michele became involved in a drama involving Johnny Bananas, whom she said she initially considered a friend until he warned her about her showmance.

Following a recent episode in which Michele confronted Bananas, the former Survivor winner announced to fans that she had “quit reality TV,” prompting many to wonder if she was serious.

Earlier this week, Michele shared an Instagram Story slide showing food she may have eaten at home or a restaurant.

Viewers already loved or hated the Vacation Alliance, which featured Devin Walker, Tori Deal, Josh Martinez, and Kaycee Clark.

However, new alliances arrived, including the Ladies of Leisure (LOLs), which featured Michele Fitzgerald, Olivia Kaiser, and Nia Moore.

In Season 40’s recent episode, Olivia described the trio’s mutual interests in shopping, designer items, and expensive vacations.

Johnny Bananas’ crew, Bananas Angels, also appeared in the recent episode during Jordan, Michele, and Olivia’s discussion about trying to cut the head off the snake.

The group later had a toast at the bar, as Aviv discussed in a confessional that they’d been a close group throughout the season so far.

As Monsters and Critics recently reported, The Challenge 40 reunion was filmed last week in Amsterdam, with many top cast members attending.

Things got emotional for The Challenge star Michele Walker when she read the note Devin Walker left for her on Battle of the Eras.

The two castmates experienced sparks during Season 40, leading to a showmance that continued during filming.

However, during a recent episode, Devin became one of Era 3’s targets with his Ride or Dies partner, Tori Deal.

The daily challenge winner, Rachel Robinson, chose to pit them against Era 4’s Kyland Young and Kaycee Clark.

Ultimately, Tori defeated her friend and ally Kaycee, while Devin couldn’t get it together during the elimination event and lost to Kyland.

When his time on Battle of the Eras ended, his showmance with Michele seemed to end, but he left her a special note about the future.

Josh Martinez continues to rile up many of The Challenge fans who wish he wouldn’t appear on their television screens.

The former Big Brother winner is part of the Season 40 cast, known as Battle of the Eras, where he’s one of the 10 members of the Era 4 team.

Several other Big Brother stars appeared on his team, including his good friend Kaycee Clark, former finalist Paulie Calafiore, and newcomer Kyland Young.

It might seem that Era 4 represents the new era well because it features UK cast members and CBS stars who joined MTV’s The Challenge.

However, recent remarks from Josh in a deleted scene mention that he felt someone was missing.

Fans called out his comments after seeing the recently released clip, claiming they didn’t feel the show needed that certain someone in the cast.

As Monsters and Critics recently reported, two of the alliance members, Kaycee and Tori, shared after filming that they would take a break from The Challenge.

That seemingly indicated neither would be back on the show, at least for MTV’s Season 41.

However, Kaycee seemed to hint at not returning to any reality television, as her video included expressing gratitude about her six years on Big Brother and The Challenge.

During his recent podcast episode, Zach mentioned Kaycee’s situation with reality TV and said that she’s retired.

On Battle of the Eras Episode 9, viewers watched Devin get sent home by Era 4’s Kyland Young.

The Vacation Alliance became significantly weaker during a recent episode of The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.

Two of their members won’t return for the next season on MTV or whichever platform it might appear on.

Viewers saw friends and allies face off in the elimination event, with Tori Deal and Kaycee Clark in a battle of former Challenge winners.

In addition, Devin Walker got sent into elimination with Tori, where he lost to Era 4’s Kyland Young.

Tori won her elimination event, but it was a bittersweet, close win over her friend.

Following the episode, one of the Vacation Alliance members indicated she wouldn’t be back, at least for next season.

Opponents fired some serious shots at the group on the recent episode and they took out two of the alliance members.

Viewers saw Rachel Robinson win the daily challenge as the only remaining member of her Era 1 team.

Since Devin Walker and Tori Deal were targets on the losing team, they automatically had to go into the elimination event.

That set up a perfect opportunity for Rachel and others to take a shot at the Vacation Alliance. Rachel selected Era 4’s Kaycee Clark and Kyland Young against the Era 3 targets.

It paid off in the end, as Kyland defeated Devin and Tori defeated Kaycee, weakening the alliance as the game continued.
