Production has wrapped on “Asian Persuasion,” a New York Asian tale of a down-on-his-luck chef who cooks up a scheme to marry off his ex-wife in an attempt to escape substantial alimony and child support obligations, before realizing that he wants a second chance. Featured actors include Black Eyed Peas’ Apl.de.Ap, Yam Concepcion (“Nightshift”), Janice Sonia Lee (“Emily the Criminal”), Ami Sheth (“Most Beautiful Island”), Rachel Alejandro (“Ang Larawan”), Fe Delos Reyes (“Lumpia with a Vengeance”), Joyce Keokham (“Denture Adventure”), comedian Rex Navarrete (“Badass Madapaka”), Imani Hanson (“An Angry Boy”), Devin Ilaw, Renee Rogoff (“Carma”), Mairin Lee (“Marcy”), Hamilton’s Marc delaCruz, Raw founder Josh Kesselman, CaliStar, and Tony Labrusca. It was directed by Jhett Tolentino from a script by Mike Ang and is now being edited by Aacharee Ungsriwong. Production is under way on “Asian Persuasion,” a feature film that marks the directorial debut of three-time Tony-Award and Grammy-winning producer Jhett Tolentino.

Set in New York, romantic comedy “Asian Persuasion” features a diverse, primarily Asian cast and seeks to elevate, inform and inspire the Asian narrative.

The story follows a down-on-his-luck chef who cooks up a crazy scheme to marry off his ex-wife in an attempt to avoid his substantial alimony obligations. With the help of his trusted wingman, the chef gets off to a hot start, but belatedly realizes he wants a second chance with his ex.

Asian Persuasion is produced under the Jhett Tolentino Productions banner with Tolentino and screenwriter Mike Ang serving as producers. Cinematography is by Andrea Walter with production and costume design by Dedalus Moving Pictures’ Sheena Alexis (“Caretakers”). The music score is by Eunike Tanzil (“Be Somebody”) with casting by Bess Fifer.

CinemaIncidentally, ‘U Turn’ was the first Kannada film to be remade in all the south Indian languages and in Sinhalese.Digital NativeDigital NativeDirector Pawan Kumar recently confirmed that his hit Kannada movie U Turn will be remade in Filipino. He shared the news through his social media page, “Just got to know – Kim Chiu, Jm De Guzman and Tony Labrusca are teaming up for a Filipino adaptation of Indian box-office hit U Turn, a mystery thriller film that first came out in theatres in 2016.” U Turn will be the first ever Kannada movie to be remade in Filipino. According to the director, it is possible that the film will be remade in Chinese and Thai too as filmmakers from those countries have shown interest. We can expect an official word on it soon. It may be mentioned here that U Turn was remade in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu and in the Sinhalese language.

Project is due to shoot in the spring and will star Sharon Cuneta.

New York-based Filipina filmmaker Isabel Sandoval has revealed details of her next feature, Park Lane.

She will again be working with Tony award-winning Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino on the project, which is due to shoot in the spring.

It stars actress, singer and chat show host Sharon Cuneta (“she’s considered the Julia Roberts of the Philippines”). The cast also includes Filipino stars Jodi Santamaria and Tony Labrusca.

The director intends to attach Us talent and to make the film as a Filipino/Us coproduction.
