Connor Swindells is married!

The 28-year-old actor, best known for playing Adam Groff on the Netflix television show Sex Education, tied the knot with Peaky Blinders actress Amber Anderson.

Connor and Amber, 32, met on the set of the film Emma and had the director Autumn de Wilde give a speech at their wedding reception. The wedding ceremony was officiated by Alistair Petrie, who played Connor‘s father on Sex Education.

Amber told British Vogue that she wore a Vivienne Westwood dress and knew she found her dress as soon as she put it on.

Sex Education is one of those shows where you could legitimately call every main actor a breakout star. Asa Butterfield continues to star in a wide variety of films, Ncuti Gatwa is the Fifteenth Doctor, and Emma Mackey and Connor Swindells snagged roles in Barbie.

I have to confess I don’t know much about William Tell, the legendary 14th century huntsman who we were told as school children took his bow and arrow and heroically shot an apple off the top of his son’s head. And there is also the infamous “William Tell Overture” played in concerts around the globe. So that’s it. That is all I knew, until now, when I was completely captivated by a rousing new adventure William Tell, which does indeed tell the tale of this reluctant warrior. But did he ever really exist or is this tale a tall one? Director-writer Nick Hamm tries valiantly to put the pieces together. It all happened a long time ago, as this film’s events are set in 1307, but whatever the facts I have to say this is perfect movie material, reminiscent in spirit and execution of 1995’s Oscar-winning Braveheart.

As Swiss legend goes, William Tell became a medieval folk hero when occupying Austrian militants forced him into a sick game: He was forced to fire an arrow into an apple atop his son’s head to save his family from execution. It was a daunting task, but the warrior’s aim was true, inspiring a rebellion among the Swiss and, centuries later, everything from Gioachino Rossini’s iconic overture to a very funny “Far Side” comic. With “William Tell,” producers hope that fable can spawn an action franchise as well.

The film is big, brutal and beautiful — over the top at times and stirring at others. It finds modern resonance in a 14th century European legend, and for better and worse it also turns that legend into a slam-bang bit of muscular Hollywood-style entertainment.

Ahead of its Tuesday world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights to Nick Hamm’s resistance epic, “William Tell,” the company announced.

Altitude has secured UK-Ireland rights on Nick Hamm’s William Tell, with SquareOne Entertainment picking up the film for Germany, Austria and Switerzerland.

Both distributors are targeting a Q1 2025 release for the film, which has its world premiere as a Gala title on Tuesday, September 10 at Toronto Film Festival.

Exclusive: Nick Hamm’s action-packed adaptation William Tell, starring Claes Bang and Golshifteh Farahani, has sold to the UK & Ireland and Germany-speaking territories ahead of its world premiere in Toronto next week.

Munich-based sales company Beta Cinema unveiled the all-rights deals to Altitude (UK & Ireland) and SquareOne Entertainment for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, following the film’s well-attended press and industry screening in Toronto on Thursday.

Both distributors are targeting a release date in Q1 2025.

Beta Cinema has already announced deals with Sf Studios, Beta Fiction (Spain), Eagle Pictures (Italy), Dutch Filmworks (Benelux), Pris Audiovisuais (Portugal), Monolith Films (Poland), Cinemart (Czech Republic), Blitz (Former Yugoslavia), Ads (Hungary and Romania), Beta Film (Bulgaria), Tfg (Greece), Ukraine (Top Film) and The Plot Pictures (Middle East & Turkey) earlier this year.

Director Hamm’s adaptation of Friedrich Schiller’s classic play is fresh out of post-production.

Bang stars as titular hero opposite Farahani as his wife. They are joined by Connor Swindells, Jonah Hauer-King, Ellie Bamber, Rafe Spall and Emily Beecham, with Academy-Award winner Ben Kingsley and Academy-Award nominee Jonathan Pryce.

The film will world premiere in Toronto as a Gala Presentation next week and will then make its European presentation at the Zurich Film Festival in October. Beta Cinema handles international rights, alongside WME Independent who represent domestic rights.

The Zurich Film Festival (Zff) has unveiled the eleven titles set to screen as part of its Gala programme during its upcoming 20th edition, running October 3 – 13.

The selection features Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winning feature Anora, starring Mikey Madison, Paul Weissman, and Lindsey Normington. Also screening is Steve McQueen’s Blitz. Exclusive: CNN has picked up Sky’s BAFTA-winning Lockerbie doc series from Louis Theroux’s Mindhouse.

Lockerbie examines what was the deadliest terror attack on the U.S. before 9/11 on its 35th anniversary. The 1988 bombing of flight Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, led to the deaths of 270 people, 190 of whom were U.S. citizens. With access to victims’ families, investigators, intelligence officers and other key figures who had not spoken until now, the series follows the disaster from start to end and profiles who was responsible.

Lockerbie was produced by Theroux, Nancy Strang and Arron Fellows’ Mindhouse in association with Sky Studios. Directed by John Dower, it beat off competition from another Sky show, Dublin Narcos, along with Channel 4’s Evacuation and the BBC’s Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland to scoop the BAFTA for Factual Series.

When the 2019 Newsnight interview finally blew up the time bomb that was Prince Andrew’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, not all of the pieces came back down to Earth in the same place. The interview that the Duke of York’s team were hoping would charm the public and rid him of his “Randy Andy” reputation achieved the opposite. Viewers found Prince Andrew to be callous and unsympathetic, while his denials of wrongdoing failed to convince many.

What followed were legal proceedings, a substantial out-of-court settlement, and a great many job resignations. From the prince to his team and the journalists behind the interview, here’s where the major players as featured in Netflix’s Scoop were left.

In the final minutes of Netflix’s Scoop, a fictionalised behind-the-scenes account of Newsnight’s infamous Prince Andrew interview, Billie Piper’s character Sam buys a kebab. Two lamb shawarmas – her usual, says the vendor, who gestures at the TV news and asks if she’s seen all this business with the prince? Boy, he’d love to have been in the room when that interview was filmed. Sam McAlister looks wistfully at the screen with the beginning of a smile on her face. “Yeah I did. I saw it,” she tells him, and then turns and leaves.

So humble. So real. So unmotivated by personal glory. Sam McAlister could have told the kebab shop man that she very much was in the room when that interview was filmed, and that as the guest booker on Newsnight, without her it might never even have happened. She doesn’t. The former...

Scoop is a dramatized feature about the BBC’s Newsnight team scoring a sensationally revealing 2019 interview with Prince Andrew about his relationship with millionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. For a film about a journalistic exclusive, it has the most generic title possible. There are already at least four other movies out there called Scoop, including a rubbishy 2006 Woody Allen film and a 1987 adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s peerless 1938 satirical novel, a twofer satire of both the press and the British aristocracy.

Sadly, this latest Scoop has none of Waugh’s acid wit or alkaline intelligence. Although serviceable as a retread of the events that led up to the royal interview conducted by Newsnight anchor Emily Maitlis (impersonated here by Gillian Anderson), an interview recreated for big chunks of the running time, it doesn’t significantly deepen or enrich our understanding of the personalities involved — let alone journalism, privilege, sexual exploitation or the price of fish.

It makes sense that Netflix leapt at the chance to adapt Sam McAllister’s “Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews,” as the story that screenwriter Peter Moffat has pulled from it feels like nothing so much as an episode from season eight or nine of “The Crown” — the most compelling thing about this film might be the case it makes in support of the streamer’s decision to end that series after season six.

A thin but propulsive journalistic thriller about the making of the November 2019 “Newsnight” segment in which Prince Andrew self-immolated on national television while being grilled about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, “Scoop” fleetly dramatizes how a small team at the BBC’s most prestigious current affairs program convinced the Duke of York to hoist himself on the petard of his own alleged sex crimes. The film depicts the shocking BBC Newsnight interview, which took place in 2019 and resulted in a PR nightmare for Buckingham Palace.

During the interview, Prince Andrew was asked about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and alleged sexual assault against a young woman. Prince Andrew’s alibi was memorably being at a Pizza Express in Woking during the alleged incident.

An upcoming Netflix/BBC limited series about real-life tragedy has added some well-known stars to its cast.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Patrick J. Adams, Merritt Wever, and Connor Swindells are the latest actors to join the cast of Lockerbie.

The six-part series will center around the December 1988 terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight 103 from Frankfurt to Detroit.

The flight was bombed 38 minutes after take-off, exploding over Lockerbie, Scotland, and killing all 243 passengers and 16 crew members.

“It was the worst-ever terror attack on British soil and the first major one on U.S. citizens,” Netflix and the BBC explained in a press release.

The outlets went on to reveal that the series will center around the attack and the ensuing investigation, a collaborative effort between American and Scottish intelligence agencies.

The BBC and Netflix didn’t detail what roles each castmember will play, but said that filming on the show, described as a “factual drama” made by ITV Studios banner World Productions, has begun in Scotland.

Just to be clear, Apple TV+’s The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is not a spinoff of Max’s Our Flag Means Death. The two shows do not share the same creative team, nor the same characters. No one involved with either has ever suggested they might in any way be related.

Nevertheless, a viewer might be forgiven for presuming that they could be. Both are cheerfully anachronistic comedies about 18th century Englishmen fleeing conventional society to turn outlaw. Both heroes raise eyebrows in their new milieu for their naivete, their sartorial flair and their distaste for violence. Both nevertheless win the loyalty of a quirky crew who find they quite like this softer version of their bloodthirsty trade.

Ruth Wilson will play Emily Maitlis, the BBC interviewer who grilled the Duke of York about Virginia Giuffre’s claims that he’d assaulted her when she was a teen, as well as his ties to Epstein. The blowback from the interview eventually forced the prince to step away from his royal duties.

Following the box office success of Barbie, there’s been a lot of chatter about a potential sequel that would see Margot Robbie reprise the titular character role.

However, in a new interview, Robbie seems to shoot down any possibilities of a follow-up to the Greta Gerwig-directed film.

“I think we put everything into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something,” Robbie told the Associated Press in an interview. “Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”

Barbie made over $1.4 billion at the box office and Robbie also reflected on the success of the film noting that “original films can still hit huge.”

“It doesn’t have to be a sequel or a prequel or a remake,” Robbie continued. “It can be totally original. It can still be big given the big budget to do that.

The latest instalment in the classic monster franchise will open on December 15.

Glasgow-based distributor Anime Ltd has secured UK-Ireland distribution rights to Godzilla Minus One, the latest in Toho Studios’ iconic monster franchise.

Anime Ltd will open the film at 200-250 sites on December 15, including Imax and 4Dx theatres. It marks the biggest ever theatrical live-action release for the distributor, which is known for releasing some of Japan’s biggest animated box office hits in the UK and Ireland such as One Piece Film: Red and more recently The First Slam Dunk.

Beta Cinema and the UK’s Free Turn Films and Tempo Productions have officially announced Nick Hamm’s epic drama William Tell, as its under-the-radar shoot enters its final week in Italy.

The partners have unveiled a first-look image of Claes Bang in the role of the legendary crossbow-wielding warrior (scroll down to check it out).

Bang is joined in the cast by Connor Swindells, Ellie Bamber, Golshifteh Farahani, Jonah Hauer-King, Rafe Spall, Emily Beecham, Jonathan Pryce and Oscar winner Ben Kingsley.

“As a filmmaker I couldn’t ask for a more exceptional cast to bring this story to life,” said Hamm.
