Daniel Radcliffe has spoken out about J.K. Rowling’s ongoing anti-transgender comments, saying that he is “really sad” the Harry Potter author has embraced that perspective.
Speaking to The Atlantic about his current role in the Broadway production of Merrily We Roll Along, Radcliffe discussed being part of the Harry Potter film franchise at such a young age and took the opportunity to comment on Rowling’s divisive anti-trans opinions.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling posted her idea of an April Fool’s Day gag today, describing various criminals, a model, a TV presenter and others – all of whom identify as trans women – as women before writing, “Only kidding. Obviously, the people mentioned in the above tweets aren’t women at all, but men, every last one of them.”
Rowling’s multiple posts on X/Twitter today were a response to a new hate crime law in Scotland that the country’s First Minister Humza Yousaf said is designed to stem a “rising tide of hatred.” Advocates of Scotland’s new Hate Crime and Public Order Act say the measure provides greater protection against threatening or abusive behavior “intended to stir up hatred” on the grounds of age, disability, religion, sexual orientation and transgender identity.

J.K. Rowling has threatened a Harry Potter fan with a lawsuit after the person posted untruths about her family in an apparent attack on the author’s transgender views.
Rowling said she would be forced to take legal action if Wizarding News, a 22-year-old Harry Potter fan site, does not remove fabricated X messages claiming she has an estranged daughter and grandchild.
“This is untrue in all respects, as I suspect they already know. Lying about my kids is a new low, even by this website’s subterranean standards,” Rowling wrote on the site formerly known as Twitter.
“Your vendetta against me is causing collateral damage to innocent people. If legal action is the only way to protect them, I will take it.”
This is not a joke. The baby and its mother have no connection with me, @wizardingnews. That isn’t my daughter. Your vendetta against me is causing collateral damage to innocent people.

India Willoughby, the cohost of ITV’s all-woman talk show Loose Women and Britain’s first transgender national television reader, has revealed that she recently lodged a formal complaint with the police against Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling for alleged transphobia.
In an interview with Byline TV on Wednesday, Willoughby disclosed her actions in response to her ongoing social media feud with Rowling, who has repeatedly misgendered her and is accused of committing a crime.
In the interview, Willoughby asserted her legal status as a woman and expressed her discontent with Rowling’s consistent disrespect. She emphasized that such behavior constitutes a breach of both the Equalities Act and the Gender Recognition Act, as it targets a protected characteristic. Willoughby stated that she reported Rowling to the Northumbria Police in recent days.
The U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Service recognizes hostility based on transgender identity as a potential hate crime.

A number of actors, comedians and TV personalities have joined the voices condemning the Labour party’s controversial new campaign advert.
The ad bears a picture of prime minister Rishi Sunak, alongside the words: “Do you think adults convicted of sexually assaulting children should go to prison? Rishi Sunak doesn’t.”
To justify the claim, the advert cites the fact that “under the Tories”, 4,500 adults convicted of sexually assaulting children under the age of 16 had served no prison time.
The statistic is based on data going back to 2010, when Sunak was yet to even become an MP and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer was serving as Director of Public Prosecutions.
The advert was shared by Labour’s main account and retweeted by a number of several Labour figures, including Starmer’s Director of Strategy. It was met with outrage from many across the political spectrum.
Actor and director Samuel West wrote: “Please withdraw this.

Rylan has taken aim at scalpers after tickets for Eurovision 2023 sold out in just over half an hour.
This year, Eurovision is being held in Liverpool. Ukraine, the winners of the 2022 contest, were unable to host due to the ongoing war with Russia.
On Tuesday (7 March), tickets for the event went on sale online, but left many fans empty-handed.
Ticketmaster’s website crashed following the rush to purchase tickets, and tickets have subsequently emerged on resale sites for thousands of pounds.
You can follow the latest updates here.
Writing on Twitter, Rylan – who co-hosted the handover and allocation draw earlier this year, and who has been a commentator for the Eurovision semi-finals since 2018 – condemned those who are reselling tickets at vastly inflated prices.
“To the people selling Eurovision tickets at Ridiculous resale prices that arnt [sic] proper fans – p****s,” he wrote, alongside a Gif of a man extending his middle finger.

Warner Bros’ video game Hogwarts Legacy will include the first transgender character in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Set in the 1800s, the new open-world role-playing game, based on Jk Rowling’s best-selling book series, introduces gamers to the Three Broomsticks pub owner, Sirona Ryan.
At one point in the story, Ryan is asked by a player-character how she knows a goblin named Lodgok.
“Hadn’t seen him in years when he came in a few months ago,” she replies (via GameRevolution).
“But, he recognised me instantly. Which is more than I can say for some of my own classmates. Took them a second to realise I was actually a witch, not a wizard.”
Welcoming a transgender character to Rowling’s Wizarding World is extremely significant, as the author has been accused of sharing transphobic and anti-trans rhetoric across social media.

Mark Hamill has defended himself after he became the centre of fan ire for liking a tweet from Jk Rowling that many users deemed “transphobic”.
The prominent Star Wars actor was recently called out by a number of people who discovered he had “liked” the Harry Potter author’s reply to an earlier post made by ITV’s first trans broadcaster India Willoughby.
“I’m more of a woman than Jk Rowling will ever be,” the Loose Women host wrote, to which Rowling responded: “Citation needed.”
The Independent has contacted Rowling’s representative for comment.
“Why are you hitting the ‘like’ button for [Rowling’s] transphobic hate crusade?” one user commented, tagging Hamill, 71.
Another added: “Hey, @MarkHamill – I dunno if you realised it, but that tweet you liked from Jk Rowling is extremely transphobic. Endorsing that kind of bigoted rhetoric seems extremely out of pocket for you so – before my heart breaks...
