HBO announced that director, writer and producer Craig Zobel has extended his overall deal for three additional years.
Most recently, Zobel directed the 2021 HBO limited series “Mare of Easttown,” which stars Kate Winslet as a police detective in a Philadelphia suburb investigating the recent murder of one girl and year-long disappearance of another. The series, which also starred Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Evan Peters and Guy Pearce, was nominated for the 2021 Emmy for outstanding limited series and Zobel was nominated for the award for limited or anthology series director.
Zobel is also known for serving as the sole director and showrunner of the CBS All Access miniseries “One Dollar,” a mystery thriller created by Jason Mosberg where a single dollar bill changing hands in a small town links a group of strangers to a murder. He directed “Akane no Mai,” the Season 2 “Westworld” episode famous for introducing a new park called Shogun World.

CBS All Access has dropped the first official trailer for their upcoming drama One Dollar. The series from Craig Zobel is set to premiere on Aug. 30 with new episodes released weekly on Thursdays.
Set in a small rust belt tow in post-recession America, One Dollar is a grimy mystery where one single dollar bill (hence the title) changing hands connects a group of characters involved in a shocking multiple murder. Giving some serious Ozark-meets-Sense8 ensemble, interconnected realness, the titular currency brings us on a different path and point of view in each episode to paint a picture of a modern American town with deep class and cultural divides that spill out into the open as the town’s secrets get revealed.
The cast of One Dollar includes John Carroll Lynch, Nathaniel Martello-White, Chris Denham, Philip Ettinger, Kirrilee Berger, Gracie Lawrence, Joshua Bitton, Nikẹ Uche Kadri and Hamilton Clancy.

‘One Dollar’ Trailer: Mystery Series Follows a Dollar Bill’s Dangerous Journey Through the Rust Belt
George Washington’s seen some things. If “One Dollar” is any indication, there’s about to be a few more shocking additions to the list.
At the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday afternoon, CBS All Access unveiled the first look at the upcoming series, which tracks the handling and use of a single dollar bill as it weaves its way through a murder mystery. As small-town accusations, deals, and reckonings happen in the wake of a multiple homicide, each episode shifts perspective depending on who holds the currency in question.
It’s the first series of its kind from CBS’ streaming service, which has kept its ambitious drama slate to high-end procedurals (“The Good Fight”), sci-fi TV franchise fare (“Star Trek: Discovery”), and off-kilter biopics (“Strange Angel”). This episode-by-episode approach comes courtesy of director Craig Zobel and creator Jason Mosberg. A “Leftovers” and “Westworld” alumnus, Zobel’s last...

It’s a new week, and nestled in another dumpster-load of content destined for the garbage pile that is the growing video-on-demand market comes Stephen C. Miller’s Southern action thriller Arsenal. The first of two movies Miller has due for release in 2017, which incidentally will be his fifth since 2015 (in case you needed an idea of the patient love and care the director brings to his projects), Arsenal is incoherent, thin on ideas original or otherwise and, despite its brisk 92-minute running time, a curious slog. Even by the now shockingly low standards of Nicolas Cage, lo-rent crap extraordinaire, Arsenal is bad – a product of totally incompetent filmmaking that will, as you drift, have you pondering how the money it cost to make could have better served humanity.
Biloxi, Mississippi provides Arsenal‘s setting, the location adding an unavoidably muggy atmosphere that’s perfect for the pulpy material but...

We’re sure there’s a plot hidden deep within one of the lace-fronts in this Arsenal trailer, but it’s almost beside the point. Our apologies to first-time screenwriter Jason Mosberg, who we’re sure dutifully watched several latter-day Nicolas Cage and John Cusack movies to imbue his script with just the right about of skeeviness and outlandishness. The truth is, we don’t even need to know what events will have to transpire to bring Cusack and Cage—one in a do-rag, the other a Kate Micucci-inspired wig—together. We’re just grateful for whatever family turmoil there is between Adrian Grenier and Johnathon Schaech, who play brothers, that pushes the latter into Cage’s employ. Because then we get to see the mustachioed crime boss throw a hissy fit shortly before ordering some white guy in corn rows to kidnap Schaech’s daughter. We’re also...
