Sypher Studios and Lon Haber & Co announce the AFM World Market Premiere and first-look footage of the new feature documentary, Behind the Lines, based on the New York Times bestselling book of the same name by the renowned historian Andrew Carroll. The film follows Carroll’s decades-long journey, including into active war zones, to find “the most extraordinary war letters ever written” from the American Revolution to the present day. Behind the Lines differs from other war letters-related films in that it includes correspondences from the home front as well as by civilians who are literally “caught in the crossfire.”
Narrated by Annette Bening, the film features on-screen letter-performances by a star-studded cast including Laura Dern, Michael C. Hall, Paul Walter Hauser, Common, DeWanda Wise, Gary Cole, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and many more. Directed by first-time feature director John B. Benitz and written by Andrew Carroll, John B. Benitz, and Bryce Cyrier.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Tunnel Vision,” the series finale of “CSI: Vegas,” which aired on May 19, and is now streaming on Paramount+.
“Things are about to go kaboom.” That’s what Beau (Lex Medlin) says on Sunday night’s series finale of “CSI: Vegas” as he prepares to detonate a series of bombs. But he might be describing everyone’s minds, as the show’s characters discover midway through the episode (“Tunnel Vision”) that they’ve been chasing the wrong villain all season.
With Max (Paula Newsome) kidnapped and Chris (Jay Lee) injured by some sort of nerve agent and in the hospital, the “CSI” team continues to place the blame on tech billionaire Truman Thomas (Owain Yeoman) — until they find his dead body.
It’s actually an entirely different villainous group that has taken Max through the 600 miles of flood channels that lie beneath Las Vegas.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from the series finale of CSI: Vegas on CBS.
Like what happened to So Help Me Todd, CSI: Vegas didn’t get a chance to wrap up its three-season run on CBS with any grand gestures or heartfelt goodbyes.
The procedural, which was a followup to the 2000 CSI series, was canceled in April so there was no time to throw together a satisfying ending. So anyone who wanted to see where Maxine’s (Paula Newsome) relationship with Dean was going will have to live with disappointment.
At least there was some positives in the episode dubbed “Tunnel Vision”: Max survived her kidnapping by a Saudi big bad (Faran Tahir) who stole intelligence from Truman Thomas’ secret lab. Chris (Jay Lee) regained consciousness after he was exposed to a nerve agent. Penny (Sarah Gilman) set a wedding date with Jack (Joel Johnstone), and Josh...

Las Vegas crime lab supervisor Maxine Roby is “in a bit of a noodle” for much of CSI: Vegas‘ Season 3-slash-series finale, airing this Sunday at 10/9c.
The latest CSI franchise entry was cancelled on April 19 as Season 3 averaged north of 5.9 million total viewers — up 4% from its Season 2 audience. Alas, out of the 14 original dramas that America’s Most-Watched Network has aired this TV season, the Sin City procedural ranks last in viewers.

After three seasons, “We’re going out with a bang,” says CSI: Vegas showrunner Jason Tracey as the CSIs at the Crime Lab work the last case we’ll see on the CBS drama on May 19. “There’s never been a more personal case on CSI: Vegas. There are some very big cards left to turn over on our AI/robotics storyline, and Allie’s [Mandeep Dhillon] season-long effort to reconfigure how partnerships work at the lab. I’m so proud of how this cast and crew are bringing our story home,” Tracey tells TV Insider. Following the explosion at the bio lab in the penultimate episode, Chris (Jay Lee) has been left unconscious and Max (Paula Newsome) abducted while calling Catherine (Marg Helgenberger). “Nobody is safe,” the showrunner warns. Members of the team will head underground to look for the “imperiled” Max in the tunnels. “There are almost 600 miles...

The following contains major spoilers from CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 9, "Heavy Metal," which debuted Sunday, May 12 on CBS.
With CSI: Vegas two episodes away from its series finale, the CBS show finally delivers the hard-hitting reveal that audiences have been waiting for ever since Season 3's Big Bad was introduced. "Heavy Metal" clearly confirms the team's -- and the viewers' -- suspicions about who's behind the robot murder, but to get there, the episode goes through yet another case of the week that's more quirky than it is tense or memorable.
"Heavy Metal" is a spotlight episode for Sarah Gilman's character Penny Gill, who's working toward becoming a CSI Level II. It brings back Penny's surprise engagement to assistant medical examiner Jack Nikolayevich, and also gives a little bit more screen time to Jay Lee as Chris Park, since he's supposed to be Penny's partner. And while the case...

On Saturday, CSI and CSI: Vegas star Marg Helgenberger who played Catherine Willows for 14 seasons across the original series and the followup, reflected on the cancellation.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.

CSI: Vegas season 3 will start with the team investigating the murder of Kahn Schefter and unraveling the mystery. Photos show Serena visiting Josh in jail, while the rest of the team carries on with their investigations. Each episode of CSI: Vegas will likely feature a different crime, despite Josh's ongoing imprisonment. Premiere is delayed to winter season.
New images from CSI: Vegas offer insight into Josh's life behind bars. The crime show honors CSI: Crime Scene Investigation by returning to Las Vegas and revisiting some classic characters. After two seasons, it was approved for season three, which was significantly delayed by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which ended on November 9. Because of the delays, the premiere has been pushed from the fall to the winter season.
Since the tragic season 2 ending left Josh imprisoned, CSI: Vegas season 3 will be starting off with the team attempting to unravel the mystery behind the murder of Kahn Schefter.

This may be the season that CSI: Vegas finally stands on its own two feet.
In its first two seasons, this hybrid has faced a difficult challenge. It's not a revival of the popular series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS. It isn't a reboot, with new characters repopulating an old concept.
Instead, in its first two seasons, CSI: Vegas has featured a couple of legacy characters to draw in viewers of the original series.
In CSI: Vegas Season 1, power couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to clear the lab's reputation and former lab rat David Hodges (Wallace Langham) from a well-crafted frame.
Meanwhile, seemingly in the background, the lab's new criminologists solved the day-to-day cases.
What Were the Highlights of CSI: Vegas Season 2?
The second season struck a better balance between new and old. It almost had to.
The return of Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) was well handled.

Eric Szmanda addresses another possible CSI: Vegas return for his character. A follow-up to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the series tracks a team of forensic investigators who employ new techniques to analyze evidence and protect the streets of Sin City. CSI: Vegas premiered on CBS back in 2021 and featured several original cast members, including William Petersen and Jorja Fox. Szmanda portrayed Greg Sanders, a main character throughout most of CSI, and while he was revealed to have left the Crime Lab before the events of the sequel, he eventually returned towards the end of season 2.
Szmanda's time on CSI: Vegas was brief, but the actor is already teasing more appearances down the line. In a recent interview with TV Insider, he reveals that Greg's future was left uncertain because there is a possibility that he could come back, adding that "nothing's off the table."
