Somehow, it took Rocky and Rambo star Sylvester Stallone a long time to play a full-on superhero (his roles in Judge Dredd and Guardians of the Galaxy don’t count). But, when he finally did don a costume and possess superpowers, it resulted in the deeply divisive Samaritan, which is now all set to stream free.

Released back in 2022, Samaritan begins when thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith is actually a superhero legend hiding in plain sight. Directed by Julius Avery, Samaritan stars Sylvester Stallone alongside The Umbrella Academy star Javon Walton as Sam Cleary, as well as Martin Starr (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Dascha Polanco (In the Heights), Natacha Karam (The Old Guard), and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones). Samaritan is due to land on Tubi on March 1, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

Plot: Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty-five years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.

Review: Speaking on behalf of JoBlo.com, I can say without a doubt that we all love Sylvester Stallone (we even have a show – Sylvester Stallone Revisited – dedicated to him). Personally, I have a soft spot for Stallone’s 1990s films which featured him playing the closest thing to a superhero before the days of Marvel Studios and the Dceu.

Ex-NFL defensive end Jared Odrick and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri actor Michael Aaron Milligan have joined the Sylvester Stallone-starring thriller, Samaritan, which has Overlord director Julius Avery at the helm. Other cast includes Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton, Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco, Martin Starr, and Moises Arias. Currently shooting in Atlanta, the pic centers on a young boy (Walton) who is out to discover if a mythic superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive. The film is based on an original idea by Bragi F. Schut, who penned the screenplay with additional writing from Mark L. Smith, Zak Penn, and Chuck MacLean. Stallone and Braden Aftergood of Balboa Productions are producing the film, the first for their company. Schut will serve as an executive producer. MGM is releasing the film on December 11 via their United Artists Releasing banner in the U.S. and outside the U.
