An array of new albums hit the shelves and streaming services this New Music Friday.

It’s an especially great week for pop music, as both Lady Gaga (Mayhem) and Blackpink’s Jennie (Rubie) unveil highly-anticipated albums. Industry veterans Benmont Tench, Bob Mould, and Neil Young have all dropped new LPs as well.

Benmont Tench — The Melancholy Season

The last time Benmont Tench released a solo album, he was still recording and performing live with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Since the group disbanded in 2017 due to the frontman’s passing, he is now settling into his role as the face of the operation as he returns to publishing music under his own name.

Glastonbury Music Festival has rolled out its 2025 lineup, with Olivia Rodrigo, neil young and the chrome hearts, and The 1975 leading the charge at the top of the bill as this year’s headliners.

While Grammy nominations usually include many commercial picks, the awards pride themselves on being decided by music industry peers judging quality over popularity, even banning chart-related messages in FYC ads recently. So we often can expect a couple of critical darlings to get nominated across genres and sometimes even in the general field. Nominations this past year for Haim’s “Women In Music Pt. HBO Max released a trailer for Season 4 of “Gomorrah,” which launches on May 20.

The new season focuses on Genny, who, in order to protect his family, commits to legit business and tries to escape the world in which his father raised him.

“Gomorrah” stars Salvatore Esposito, Ivana Lotito, Cristiana Dell’Anna, Arturo Muselli and Loris De Luna.

Michael Winterbottom’s fictional love story set against footage of the British band Wolf Alice on tour hits a flat note

Those whose ears pricked up when they discovered Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People, The Trip) had made a documentary about British rock band Wolf Alice may not be surprised to learn that despite the thrills of its live performance scenes, On the Road isn’t quite a concert film. Instead, the band are the pretence for a romance that unfolds against a backdrop of tour buses, hotel rooms and underground clubs. The lovers are two fictional characters (actors Leah Harvey and James McArdle), who fold into the real touring crew that travel with the band. It’s a compelling conceit and, indeed, the “docudrama” has long been Winterbottom’s directorial “project”, combining verité-style naturalism and improvisation to create an atmosphere of imagined reality. Still, the film’s prosaic title is a clue.

It looks likes like a handful of Shania Twain fans are wolves in sheep’s clothing, diving down the rabbit hole and pulling out harsh tweets for Wolf Alice. "That's life on the road for you." Lorton Entertainment has debuted an official trailer for a film titled On the Road, directed by Michael Winterbottom, not to be confused with the Jack Kerouac adaptation of On the Road from a few years back. This On the Road is a docu-drama that follows the British band Wolf Alice as they tour around the UK promoting their debut album, My Love Is Cool. Aside from documenting the ups and downs of life on the road, the story follows two people in particular: Estelle (played by Leah Harvey), an intern from the record label, and Joe (played by James McCardle), a member of the band's "imagined" crew. They start up an intimate friendship, and of course get caught up in the tumult of touring. The film is mostly unscripted, and seems to capture the raw beauty and randomness of life and love. Michael Winterbottom’s documentary slash fiction feature hybrid has seen its first trailer drop today, and we have the first look, watch the trailer in full below.

Taking more than a decade to come to fruition, Winterbottom was first inspired to make the story centring on the tour bus experience back in 2002 after he met the band Ash in 2002 at the premiere for his film 24 Hour Party People. Thirteen years later, Winterbottom finally put the wheels in motion on On The Road choosing the touring band, Wolf Alice as the focal point for the film.

The fly-on-the-wall documentary wasn’t enough for Winterbottom who proceeded to add the actors Leah Harvey and James McArdle to add a little twist of depth with their fictional love story in the midst of the everyday life on the road of a rock band. Danny Boyle’s 1996 film “Trainspotting” follows a group of heroin addicts in an economically depressed Edinburgh in the late 1980s. Based on Irvine Welsh’s novel by the same name, the film went on to become a critical and commercial hit around the globe. Besides parking controversy for its subject matter, the film also produced two acclaimed soundtracks that featured music from and inspired by the film, including Iggy Pop, Brian Eno, Primal Scream, Pulp, New Order and more.

As iconic as Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie — and arguably more so — was the music that powered Danny Boyle‘s zeitgeist capturing “Trainspotting.” It launched the mass commercialization of Iggy Pop‘s “Lust For Life,” and for a few years there it seems you couldn’t turn around without bumping into the song, while Underworld‘s “Born Slippy” went from the clubs and into the homes of kids everywhere.

Three UK features among first 15 films selected for Berlin’s Generations programme.Scroll down for list

The 2017 Berlin Film Festival has revealed the first raft of titles selected for its Generations sidebar, which features youth and children’s films.

Michael Winterbottom’s music documentary On The Road [pictured], which follows the band Wolf Alice on tour, will open the Generation 14plus programme this year.

Also playing in that strand will be Dash Shaw’s My Entire High School Sinking Into The Sea, which features the voices of Jason Schwartzman, Maya Rudolph, Lena Dunham and Susan Sarandon.

Further UK features playing in 14plus include the world premieres of Carol Salter’s Almost Heaven and Rafael Kapelinski’s Butterfly Kiss.

Titles selected for the separate GenerationKplus strand include the European premiere of Kriv Stenders’s Australian family feature Red Dog: True Blue.

The 2017 Berlin Film Festival takes place February 9-19.

Michael Winterbottom’s On the Road is his best film in years: romantic, erotic and musically euphoric. This is a sensuously laidback docu-social-realist gem which takes something very difficult and makes it look easy. Winterbottom and his camera crew went out on the road last year with the indie rock band Wolf Alice as they toured the UK and Ireland: a group whose name is taken from an Angela Carter short story. They are Ellie Rowsell (guitar, vocals), Joff Oddie (guitar), Joel Amey (drums) and Theo Ellis (bass). The various tour dates provide a convenient chapter-break structure, and are announced in block capitals on screen: Glasgow, Liverpool, etc.

Independent boards feature about UK rock band Wolf Alice.

UK sales outfit Independent has boarded international sales on Michael Winterbottom’s music feature On The Road, about UK rock band Wolf Alice.

The film, which gets its world premiere at the London Film Festival, follows the Grammy nominated group on their tour earlier this year.

Producers are Melissa Parmenter (The Trip) and Anthony Wilcox for Revolution Films. Julian Bird, Abi Gadsby at Lorton Entertainment (Oasis: Supersonic) are executive-producing alongside Declan Reddington.

Lorton Distribution will release in the UK in 2017. Independent will be selling the project at the Afm next month.

– The fiercely independent 17th Annual Woodstock Film Festival presents an outstanding lineup of films to be shown in Woodstock, New York, as well as Rhinebeck, Rosendale, Saugerties, and Kingston. The festival runs October 13 – 16.

The festival opens on October 13 with the World Premiere of “Blind,” a romantic narrative feature written by Michael Mailer (son of famed American author Norman Mailer) and starring Alec Baldwin (who will attend the screening with Mailer) and Demi Moore. Film follows Grammy-nominated British rock band Wolf Alice on tour.

Michael Winterbottom’s On The Road will receive its world premiere at the upcoming BFI London Film Festival.

The film will be presented within the festival’s Sonic strand on Oct 9 at the BFI Southbank and follows Grammy-nominated British rock band Wolf Alice, from North London, on tour.

Winterbottom joined the band on the road earlier this year, capturing 16 different gigs and daily life backstage. The film records the tour from the point of view of a new member of their crew and stars rising British actors Leah Harvey and James McArdle.

We'd like to say it's a great time to be a Ghostbusters fan, but a lot of you would disagree. Even though those who loved the 1984 original have done nothing but dump hate on this new iteration of the classic franchise, that hasn't stopped Sony from moving forward with their marketing and merchandise campaign. Though believe it or not, some consumers have complained about a lack of toys in stores, with the studio not fulfilling the demand. That won't happen with the soundtrack, as it be readily available when it drops next month. Today, we finally have a clear picture of what exactly will be included.

Earlier today, we saw all four of the new Ghostbusters grace the cover of EW's latest issue. Now, we also get a new international poster that once again includes Chris Hemsworth as Kevin. This time, though, we also get to see Slimer making his triumphant big screen return.

Emerging UK financier-distributor Lorton Entertainment has boarded finance on a Michael Winterbottom music film and a Steven Gerrard [pictured] documentary from the producers of Amy.

Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People, The Trip) is in production on Love Song: Wolf Alice, about rising UK alt rock band Wolf Alice, which was nominated for British Breakthrough Act at this year’s Brit Awards.

Lorton will also distribute the Revolution Films production, which will feature the band members alongside emerging UK actors.

The London-based outfit, which is headed by investment banker Julian Bird and a consortium of private financiers, is also set to back and distribute a documentary about revered UK footballer Steven Gerrard, which will be produced by Amy producer James Gay Rees. A director has yet to be attached.

Over the past year, the UK music scene has been insane, and now the 2016 Brit Awards has released the list of distinguished hopefuls.

As could be expected, Adele has scored four nods including British Female Solo Artist, British Single, MasterCard British Album of the Year and British Artist Video of the Year.

With just over two months until the 2016 Grammy Awards, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences just released the first batch of nominees.

And as could be expected, Taylor Swift scored nods for Record of the Year and Song of the Year while her buddy Ed Sheeran also nabbed a Song of the Year and Record of the Year mention.
