The friendly rivalry between Jeopardy! super-champs James Holzhauer and Matt Amodio added a new chapter late Monday night (March 17) when Holzhauer took an opportunity to poke fun at his upcoming Jeopardy! Masters opponent. Responding to a tweet that asked, “What’s the worst character redesign of all time,” Holzhauer shared a side-by-side photo of himself and Amodio behind their Jeopardy! podiums. The images featured each player’s total earnings, with Holzhauer’s at almost $2.5 million and Amodio’s at $1.5 million. The playful dig came after Amodio recently referred to himself as a “game show villain” during the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, a nod to Holzhauer, the self-declared bad boy of Jeopardy! Amodio won the Jit!, earning the $150,000 prize and a guaranteed spot in the 2025 Masters. Holzhauer already landed his spot in Masters by making it to the finals of last year’s tournament, which saw Amodio eliminated in the quarterfinals. Amodio...

Succeeding on Jeopardy!goes beyond innate intellectual capacity. What separates the one-day champs from the esteemed super-champions is an extensive mental exercise that trains the mind to obtain information and recall said information in a matter of seconds after clicking the buzzer. Plenty of insightful testimony has been documented concerning the art of mastering the Jeopardy! buzzer and the recent trend of contestants making big wagers on Daily Doubles, with these factors accounting for the boom of super-champs in a post-James Holzhauer world. As long as you rake in cash and extend your stay on the Alex Trebek stage, there's no such thing as a poor preparation strategy, but the science of memory recollection, as studied by former winner Dr. Monica Thieu, should not be overlooked.

From answering “What is…?” before every question to having to identify multiple items in a category, Jeopardy! player David Madden has found himself on Season 3 of The Floor and fans recognized him right away. Madden is a former 19-day champion on Jeopardy! and holds the eighth-longest streak in show history, in which he is tied with Jason Zuffranieri. He is only behind all time greats including current host Ken Jennings, Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, James Holzhauer, Mattea Roach, Cris Pannullo, and Julia Collins. He first competed on Jeopardy! in 2005, and had a winning streak of 19 total games, with a total of $432, 400. Madden was defeated by Victoria Groce. He then went on to compete in the 2006 Tournament of Champions, but lost the semifinal match. Madden recently returned for the 2024 Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament but failed to win his match and took home an additional $10,000. This brought the contestant’s total earnings to $785,733.33. Now,...

Jeopardy!‘s 2020 “Greatest of All Time” tournament might’ve settled the matter of which mega-champion was, well, the greatest of all time between Ken Jennings, Brad Rutter, and James Holzhauer. But now fans are wondering what other former contestants deserve to have the ultimate respect put on their names and be featured on the show’s Mount Rushmore. A Reddit thread has seen fans pitch their picks for the four greatest players in the game show’s history and they have made some interesting cases for certain contestants. One commenter, for example, suggested that Ibm’s Watson, the supercomputer that competed and won against Rutter and Jennings back in a 2011 Jeopardy! Contest. “I kind of wish there was an opportunity for a new Ibm challenge with some of the modern super-champs,” one user responded in the thread. Another added, “Truly, I think the only reason it won was because of reading speed.

Look, we’ve all watched Jeopardy! and marveled at the answers we got correct, because the show is undeniably difficult. Sure, there’s the occasional easy question and category, but oftentimes the questions are extremely hard to answer for the average person. Which is why it’s always so impressive when a contestant goes on a winning streak. James Holzhauer is a 33-time Jeopardy! winner, and of his wins, he got 27 questions wrong, which is impressive when you think of just how many questions are answered in an episode. Laura Faddah is astonishing Jeopardy! fans with her winning streak. While viewers will have to wait until next year to see her try for her eighth win, there is one record that the champion has just set. However, what is disappointing is that this is not a record she likely wanted to break.

There is no doubt that each contestant on Jeopardy! deserves to be there based on their ability to retain information easily. Additionally, some of them are the smartest people I have ever seen. Ken Jennings has won 74 consecutive games, and James Holzhauer deserves his flowers as well for being the third-highest-earning American game show contestant ever, and overall, being a genius. These men and certain other contestants throughout the years are absolutely smart – but that does not mean every person to have ever competed on the show is a genius.

James Holzhauer has announced that he is all on Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election in an unexpected and rare break from Jeopardy! culture. The Las Vegas resident, who is a professional sports gambler, WWE fan, and one of Jeopardy!‘s most famous contestants, took to X on Tuesday, October 29. Instead of his usual preference for sharing a jokey meme or insulting Ken Jennings or a show rival, he decided to announce his endorsement for the Democratic nominee. This is the first candidate Holzhauer has publicly backed since his famed 32-day winning streak in 2019. Still, he couldn’t resist a little self-deprecating humor in his post. “Your favorite Jeopardy champ wants you to vote for Kamala Harris,” Holzhauer wrote. “I also want you to vote for Kamala Harris. This Tuesday, August 6, is no trivial day for Jeopardy! champ James Holzhauer: It’s the day this self-described game show “Final Boss” turns 40 years old. Masters Season 2, there were a couple of foregone conclusions: Victoria Groce (with 13 match points) and Yogesh Raut (with 10) were already qualified to play in the semifinals; unless James Holzhauer (who had 6) got shut out again, he was likely to advance as well; it was bound to be a close contest between Amy Schneider and Mattea Roach (also 5) for that fourth spot; and Matt Amodio (with just 1 single match point) had zero chance of playing past Wednesday night’s games. So how did the sextet of champions fare in the final night of Masters games? Here’s a look at the highlights. Game Eleven Raut, Holzhauer, and Amodio were matched up for their final “regular” game of this season, but, as mentioned above, the latter was necessarily going to come in sixth (still taking home a healthy $50k prize for his troubles), and Holzhauer...

James Holzhauer came into the second season of Jeopardy! Masters as the “Final Boss of Jeopardy,” but by the third episode, the nickname had disappeared. Now, shocked fans are wondering if this is because of his less-than-stellar performance in the tournament so far. A viewer brought up the topic on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum after noticing the show had stopped doing the “occupation” intros starting with Episode 3. For comparison, in Season 1, the intros were still included all the way up until the semi-finals. “I can’t help but wonder if this has to do with with James being the self-described “Final Boss” but (so far) turning in a less-than-dominant performance,” the Reddit user wrote. “That line doesn’t seem so funny under these circumstances and could even be interpreted as a little embarrassing.” Holzhauer has used nicknames for his “occupation” intro before, including last year, when he went by the...

Game Seven This match-up put the three lowest-scoring contestants coming into the evening together: Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, and Mattea Roach, each of whom had just one match point to show for the previous three nights of competition. In the first round, Schneider took a healthy lead, thanks in part to getting the first Daily Double correct (Cuba was the right answer to the “Coming to America”-categoried clue of, “From 1960 to 1962 a covert program called Operation Pedro Pan brought thousands of children to the U.

Jeopardy! icon James Holzhauer is currently defending his Jeopardy! Masters title, but he took some time out earlier this week to weigh in on the Kendrick Lamar versus Drake beef. After an X user said, “Beefs don’t work in any other genre. Can you imagine 21 pilots and imagine dragons writing diss tracks about each other,” Holzhauer responded with a classic Jeopardy! clip that proved beefs can certainly happen on game shows. The clip was from the 2020 Greatest of All-Time tournament, which saw Holzhauer battling it out with fellow Jeopardy! legends Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. The moment featured Holzhauer’s epic diss of Rutter, where he pointed out how Rutter’s score of “0” was still on the screen after the boards reset, and Ken Jennings raised his hands in shock at what Holzhauer had said, reacting with a “Wow!” It was a moment viewers will never forget. “Funniest line ever delivered on Jeopardy!

At the start of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2, Season 1 champ James Holzhauer declared that he was the “final boss” of the entire competition, but so far, it’s been the Victoria Groce show, through and through. In the third night of competition — for Games 5 and 6 on Wednesday, May 8 — Groce once again took the lead and held it. And although it wasn’t a runaway this time (for the first time in Masters‘ second season so far), she still had a commanding performance. So is Victoria Groce the new “final boss” of this season? Well, there’s still a lot of gameplay to go, but she’s off to a good start. Coming into the night, the tallies of match powers were: Victoria Groce in 1st place with 6, James Holzhauer in 2nd place with 4, Yogesh Raut in third place with 4 (because of the tiebreaker being the number of correct responses), Matt Amodio...

Jeopardy! super-champ Amy Schneider is ready to respond head-on to criticism about her inclusion in the current Masters tournament. Season 2 of Jeopardy! Masters kicked off last week with six of the game’s most elite players battling it out for the coveted title and $500,000 grand prize. Those competing include reigning Masters champ James Holzhauer, last year’s runners-up Matt Amodio & Mattea Roach, 2024 Tournament of Champions winner Yogesh Raut, and Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament winner Victoria Groce. The sixth and final spot went to Schneider as a Producers’ Pick, despite placing fifth in Masters Season 1 and losing the Jit! to Groce. Some fans felt the spot should have gone to someone else who hasn’t had as many opportunities as Schneider. “We just saw her in Jit, whats the point if she can lose that and just move on anyways,” said one commenter on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum when the line-up was first announced.
