At first glance, Homestead – from director Ben Smallbone – might seem like another run-of-the-mill doomsday prepper tale designed to validate hoarding canned goods and ammo. However, there’s more depth lurking beneath the surface.

When a nuclear bomb obliterates Los Angeles, former Green Beret Jeff Eriksson (Bailey Chase) takes his family to the Homestead—a secluded survival haven owned by his wealthy friend Ian Ross. With its self-sustaining gardens, stocked armoury, and endless food supplies, the compound is a prepper’s paradise. But Homestead isn’t simply about the comforts of bunkered survival; it digs into the darker side of fear-driven living and the steep ethical price of protecting oneself at all costs.

The story unfolds as a taut moral drama, centering on the conflict between Ian and his wife Jenna (Dawn Olivieri). Ian is adamant about keeping the gates closed to the desperate, starving masses gathering outside, fearing that helping them would jeopardise their resources.

Concert movies have been on the rise of late, with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour grossing more than $250 million at the worldwide box office and Beyoncé’s Renaissance also hauling in $44 million worldwide. The most recent concert film to make a splash at the box office is For King + Country: A Drummer Boy Christmas, and after grossing more than $3.1 million during its debut in theaters, Collider is happy to exclusively reveal that For King + Country: A Drummer Boy Christmas will extend its theatrical run through December 19 due to high demand. The concert film currently sits at a “verified hot” rating of 98% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, one of the highest scores of the year. We last met the Christian rock music duo For King & Country when they released the heartfelt Unsung Hero, an autobiographical film about their family’s struggle to make ends meet after moving from Australia to the US in the ’90s.

This festive season, the Grammy-winning duo will be bringing their acclaimed holiday concert film, A Drummer Boy Christmas Live, to cinemas across the UK and Ireland for a one-night-only event on 12th December 2024. Four-time Grammy Award-winning duo for King + Country are bringing their annual popular holiday concert A Drummer Boy Christmas to theaters nationwide for the first time in a limited engagement December 5-9 on 1,000+ screens.

The faith-based duo, brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone, announced they will then take a brief touring hiatus in 2025 to create new music and work on their next feature film project. Their last, Unsung Hero from Kingdom Story Company was released by Lionsgate in April and grossed over $20 million.

Joel Smallbone directed and starred as his father David Smallbone, who moved with his family from Australia to the U.S. after his music company collapsed. His children, for King + Country, and Rebecca St. James, became well known inspirational music acts.

For King + Country is currently on a 31-city U.S. tour titled for King + Country Live: The Unsung Hero 2024 Tour.

In the early ’90s, the Smallbone family moved from Sydney, Australia to Nashville, Tennessee in pursuit of a new start. David and his wife, Helen, uproot their lives and six children, seeking refuge in Nashville after the collapse of David’s music company in Australia.

As the family settles into their new home, they encounter some challenging situations, including financial and familial struggle. Despite the uncertainty, Helen’s unwavering belief and David’s determination propel them towards success for them and their children.

Lionsgate has picked up the family drama film “Unsung Hero” from the Christian music duo for King + Country. Helmed by Richard Ramsey and for King + Country’s Joel Smallbone, the film tells the story of Smallbone family’s trek from Australia to America, and Joel and his brother Luke’s path to becoming Grammy-winning artists.

Joel Smallbone stars as his father David in the film, with Daisy Betts playing Joel’s mother Helen. According to the official synopsis, “With nothing more than their seven children, suitcases, and their love of music, David and his pregnant wife Helen set out to rebuild their lives. Based on a remarkable true story, Helen’s faith stands against all odds and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs. With their own dreams on hold, David and Helen begin to realize the musical prowess in their children.”

Lionsgate has picked up Kingdom Story Company’s Unsung Hero, the directorial debut of Joel Smallbone, one half of the Christian music duo For King + Country.

The drama centers on the Smallbone family, which also includes For King + Country member Luke Smallbone and singer-songwriter Rebecca St. James, as they come to America from their native Australia after the collapse of their father’s successful music company.

The movie also follows the family’s mother, Helen Smallbone (Daisy Betts) as she uses her faith to hold the family of nine together by turning struggles into an adventure for her children. The title for the film comes from a For King + Country song of the same name that was dedicated to the parents of Joel and Luke Smallbone.

Joel Smallbone stars as his father, David Smallbone, with other cast including Kirrilee Berger, Jonathan Jackson, Lucas Black, Candace Cameron Bure, Terry O’Quinn and Hillary Scott.

Jon Erwin, Andrew Erwin and Kevin Downes’ Kingdom Studios, the creators behind last year’s sleeper faith-based hit I Can Only Imagine, announced today their upcoming slate of faith-based productions in development during a keynote event at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Anaheim. This includes the recently announced drama I Still Believe about Christian music mega-star Jeremy Camp, as well as Jesus Revolution, Apostles: Resurrection of Christ and The Drummer Boy.

Kingdom will deliver event movies for the faith audience with the goal of releasing two theatrical releases each year.

Produced by pastor Greg Laurie, and written by Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn to be directed by Gunn, Jesus Revolution tells the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the early 1970’s and its origins within a community of teenaged hippies in Southern California. Downes and the Erwin Brothers will also produce.

Kingdom Studios, whose faith-based family release I can Only Imagine was a box office hit last year, unveiled a slate of projects on Wednesday (27) that will go through the company’s partnership with Lionsgate, including a biopic about Christian rock star Jeremy Camp.

Kingdom Studios co-founders and directors Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin announced the roster at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Anaheim, California, adding that they planned to make two theatrical event movies for the faith audience each year.
