Eiza González got a big endorsement from Natalie Portman to play the titled role in the film adaptation of the Taylor Jenkins Reid novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.

While promoting her latest film, Ash, González appeared on E! News’ The Rundown, where host Erin Lim said she was fan-casting her as Evelyn Hugo.

“I love the writer,” González said while revealing she was online pen pals with Reid before Evelyn Hugo. “We followed each other [on social media] and she would send me all her new books ahead of time, which I was such a fan of. I love Taylor, she’s so talented.”

Netflix’s long-awaited adaptation of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo has found its new director and is back on track, it would appear. The Burialfilmmaker Maggie Betts has officially signed on to direct the film, taking over from Leslye Headland, who confirmed her departure from the project last month. Betts will also co-write the script alongside Little Fires Everywhere showrunner Liz Tigelaar, according to a report this morning from Deadline. Liza Chasin and Brad Mendelsohn will be serving as producers, while author Taylor Jenkins Reid and Margaret Chernin are on board as executive producers.

Filmmaker Maggie Betts has been tapped to direct “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” for Netflix after Leslye Headland’s departure from the project.

Here's a new project announcements that just gets better and better as it goes on: Laura Dern and Margaret Qualley are set to star in an A24-produced Netflix limited series adaptation of Daisy Jones & The Six author Taylor Jenkins Reid's Forever, Interrupted, with Yellowjackets co-producer/writer Julia Bicknell attached as writer-showrunner. But when her husband unexpectedly dies, her path crosses with that of his mother Susan (Dern), who had no idea she even existed.

The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six were set to take the stage once again according to series star Suki Waterhouse.

Waterhouse shared in a YouTube vlog on Thursday from the 2023 Lollapalooza festival that she along with the cast, which also included Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon and Will Harrison, were supposed to perform at the Chicago-based music festival last summer.

“That whole thing was planned, we got people visas, like, it was an operation. And then the SAG strike happened, so we all decided that we should not perform at Lollapalooza,” the actress and singer recalled. Amid the strike, guidelines stated that the union’s affected members would be prohibited from all principal on-camera work — including acting, singing, dancing and stunts — on top of off-camera work, such as voice-acting and narration. All promotional activity such as interviews, award shows and podcasts were also not allowed by union members at the time.

The USC Libraries announced the winners for the 36th annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which honors the year’s best film and television adaptations, as well as the works on which they are based. For the second year in a row, “Slow Horses” took home the prize for episodic series; Cord Jefferson won the 2024 award for film adaptation; both he and the author of the novel he adapted, Percival Everett, were in attendance.
