We all know that Adam Sandler likes working with people he knows. The movies he produces with his production company Happy Madison regularly feature Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider, and other cast members from his Saturday Night Live days. Many of his movies also feature supporting turns from guys you only see in Happy Madison flicks, like Alan Covert and Peter Dante. And, of course, he loves to cast Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore as his love interests.
So it’s no surprise that Sandler’s latest Netflix movie You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzah sees him once again paired with Idina Menzel, who played his wife in Uncut Gems. But Sandler isn’t the star of You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, a comedy based on the 2005 YA novel by Fiona Rosenbloom. While Fantasy Island didn't generate big ratings in its first season, the reboot did pick up 60-75% more viewers in the live+7 day ratings. The Fox network's studio also co-produces the show and that means Fantasy Island generates some extra revenue for the company, which is important these days. Will this be enough to get Fantasy Island renewed for season three, or could it be cancelled? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

I have to hand it to the writers here: they really surprised me. Repeatedly.
Fantasy Island Season 2 Episode 2 does an excellent bait-and-switch, subverting expectations and hitting us with not one but two significant developments for central characters.
From what could've been a hackneyed Mamma Mia premise, the Island works its usual magic and provides thoughtful insights for its guests and audience.
But let's start with the biggest and coolest reveal -- Ruby's in love with a Mermaid.
That's what we all assume, right? Isla, the gorgeous tattoo artist Ruby met on Fantasy Island Season 1 Episode 1, who inked her with the art that would open up the Island and a second chance at life to her, is a Mermaid.
Or some sort of Island spirit or nymph. I'm not going to debate semantics, but she's obviously supernatural. Ruby's basically immortal now, so a magical elemental partner may be the perfect match.

How's your January going so far?
Have you found all of the shows or are you still looking for something to add?
Find out what we recommend you watch this week. Maybe you'll fill up that schedule sooner than you think!

8/7c Reba McEntire’s The Hammer (Lifetime)
Everything’s better with Reba, and this is no exception when she stars as Kim Wheeler, one of the few traveling judges in America.
As you can guess, she’s a spitfire, and her district, ranging from Vegas to Reno, requires that energy when she’s the judge for cases that cover everything under the sun and then some.
Of course, she has to pull double the duty when her sister, a brothel house owner, becomes the primary suspect in the suspicious death of Kim’s predecessor.

Honestly, it's been a bleak television year without the presence of Roselyn Sanchez's Elena Roarke and Kiara Barnes's old soul sidekick, Ruby Akuda, welcoming us to the magical paradise of Fox's Fantasy Island.
But 2023 is already looking brighter as the show returns for its second season on January 2, and they hit the ground running with three guests learning new things about themselves and those closest to their hearts.
Meanwhile, both Roarke and Ruby's respective relationships have progressed since last we saw our hosts. Hot stuff!
The season premiere has the template double plotline, with two separate fantasies provided for two parties of guests visiting the Island. And we have familiar faces popping in as our stars of the week.
In the first, Lucifer's Rachael Harris and Curb Your Enthusiasm's Cheryl Hines arrive as best friends since high school Tara and Jessica.

ABC has pulled out of its plans for Avalon. The series, from David E. Kelley, was given a straight-to-series order back in February and was intended to launch during the current 2022-23 season. Starring Neve Campbell, Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff, the series is based on a short story by Michael Connelly.
The series takes place in the main city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where LA Sheriff Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy (Campbell) heads up a small office. Catalina has a local population that serves more than 1 million tourists a year, and each day when the ferries arrive, hundreds of potential new stories enter the island. Detective Searcy is pulled into a career-defining mystery that will challenge everything she knows about herself and the island.

We learned back in August that Neve Campbell was set to lead the cast of ABC’s “Avalon,” a new mystery-drama series from David E. Kelley. The project was given a series order by ABC, but Variety reports the surprising news that “Avalon” is no longer moving forward.
Variety reports, “According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, ABC opted not to move forward with the series order for “Avalon” after screening the pilot. A+E Studios is said to still be bullish about the project and are weighing options on how to proceed.”
Based on Michael Connelly’s short story, “Avalon” is from A+E Studios and 20th Television. Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff were also starring.
Deadline had detailed, “Avalon, which received a straight-to-series order from ABC, takes place in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island, where L.A. Sheriff’s Department Detective...

‘Avalon’ Not Going Forward At ABC; David E. Kelley’s Neve Campbell-Led Drama Being Shopped Elsewhere
ABC has passed on David E. Kelley’s crime drama series Avalon, starring Neve Campbell, after it was handed a straight-to-series order in February.
The Disney-owned network is not moving forward with the project, which is based on a Michael Connelly short story, after it saw the pilot episode.
While unusual for a straight-to-series order, ABC does have an option not to take such shows forward after receiving the first cut, and obviously Disney is a part owner in A+E Studios, which was producing with 20th Television.
The move echoes ABC’s pass on the Alec Baldwin/Kelsey Grammer-fronted multi-cam comedy last year.
Deadline understands that A+E Networks will explore its options and attempt to sell it to another network or streamer. A+E Networks was successful in shopping one of its other Kelley projects, The Lincoln Lawyer, to Netflix after CBS passed, though that one ended in a lawsuit.

ABC has reversed course on the drama series “Avalon,” opting not to move forward with the show despite giving it a straight-to-series order in February.
“Avalon” hailed from David E. Kelley and executive producer Michael Connelly, with the show based on a short story that Connelly wrote. Neve Campbell was set to star in the lead role. Other cast members included Demetrius Grosse, Alexa Mansour, Steven Pasquale, and Roslyn Ruff.

ABC is scuttling its series Avalon, taking the series from David E. Kelley off its 2022-23 slate.
The drama, produced by A+E Studios and Disney’s 20th Television, was to have starred Neve Campbell as the L.A. Sheriff’s detective who leads a small office on Catalina Island off the Southern California coast. The show, based on a short story by Michael Connelly and created for television by the prolific Kelley, scored a straight to series order in February.
Dana Calvo (Good Girls Revolt, Narcos) came aboard as showrunner in April. Campbell heads a cast that also includes Steven Pasquale, Alexa Mansour, Demetrius Grosse and Roslyn Ruff.
Sources say that the show’s first episode had finished filming, but nothing beyond that. A+E Studios is said to believe in the show’s auspices and will explore options to find Avalon another home.

Featuring a wide range of events and stars, the festival also made headlines for some of its comedians’ jokes, such as Pete Davidson’s digs at Kanye West. But the biggest news of the fest was when Dave Chappelle was tackled on stage during his set at the Hollywood Bowl, with the attacker being charged with four misdemeanor counts. For its part, Netflix responded by saying, “We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence.” Chappelle’s four sold-out shows are not included in...

"Empty nesters Dolly (Hatcher) and Dutch (Denton) seek clarity on how to spend their next chapter," reads the official logline for the episode.
"Meanwhile, Helene (recurring Alexa Mansour) helps Ruby (Barnes) tap into her newfound youth. Javier (Rodriquez) opens up to Roarke (Sánchez) as he wrestles with his new role," it continues.
Hatcher played Susan Mayer on all eight seasons of Desperate Housewives, starring opposite Denton, who played her love interest, Mike Delfino.

However, the two stars reunited on Hallmark last year for A Kiss Before Christmas as part of the cabler's annual Countdown to Christmas Event.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 4, “Family is a Four-Letter Word.”] Well, sisters Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Hope (Alexa Mansour) have a sweet reunion — but other than that, unfortunately, not a whole lot else happens on this episode of World Beyond. Tensions are high, of course, when Huck (Annet Mahendru) walks through the gates, especially given how she left things with Felix (Nico Tortorella), and because Will (Jelani Alladin) would have a huge target on his back if the Civic Republic Military knew he was alive. But while Felix does threaten to kill her “someday” — which is just vague enough to imply it probably won’t be Felix who does her in, if she dies — he does also stop a revenge-minded Percy (Ted Sutherland) from killing her, so Huck lives to fight another day. Steve Swisher/AMC While all of this is unfolding, Hope and Iris have a few teary conversations during ...

The Walking Dead’s second spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, promised…well, a world beyond the usual Twd storytelling possibilities.
In that regard, the AMC series about four precocious youths 10 years into the zombie post-apocalypse mostly delivered. Season 1 of the show, which premiered last October after a Covid delay, picked up in Nebraska at the Campus Colony of Omaha before heading out on a cross-country adventure. In the process, the show formally introduced the Civic Republic, and its military arm (the Crm) that seems set to become a major antagonist for The Walking Dead franchise for years to come.
Despite bringing exciting new antagonistic toys for The Walking Dead’s sandbox to play with, World Beyond is somewhat unusual compared to its companion series.

The season stars Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Annet Mahendru, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Nico Tortorella, and Julia Ormond. The story begins following two sisters and two friends as leave a place of safety and comfort to brave known and unknown dangers and begin an important cross-country quest. The Walking Dead: World Beyond's short run will conclude with its second season.
Based on our first look at the second season, it looks like the spinoff will finally live up to its potential.
If there was one thing I despised about The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 1, it was the slow nature of it all.
Now that the truth is out there about Huck's connection to Elizabeth, it should result in some bigger swings.
Then, there's the whole connection to the Civic Republic Military. To date, they've been shadowy figures doing questionable things, meaning it's tough to understand their machinations.
Using Huck as an entrance to that world will probably benefit the story greatly because she was one of the standout characters of the first season.
Iris and Hope's quest for answers led them on quite the journey, but with Hope under the rule of the Crm and her sister still out there,...

Just like 2020, there’s going to be a lot of the zombie apocalypse on the small screen this fall.
In a move reminiscent of last year’s Comic-Con@Home, The Walking Dead: World Beyond on Saturday unveiled the premiere date for its second and seemingly final season. The limited-series spinoff that follows the first generation raised in the post-apocalyptic world will return to AMC on October 3.
Along with that debut date, World Beyond during its virtual panel today rolled out a clip from the 10-episode second season of the Scott M. Gimple- and Matt Negrete-created show — and things have gotten bloody, to say the least:
EPs Gimple and Negrete were both on the pre-recorded World Beyond panel this afternoon, joined by cast members Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Nico Tortorella, Annet Mahendru, Julia Ormond, Jelani Alladin and Joe Holt.

"Walking Dead: World Beyond" is proving to be a key piece of the expanding "Walking Dead" universe, thanks to the focus that the spinoff has put on the mysterious Civic Republic, which has only appeared on the fringes of the other shows in the franchise. And now we know when we'll get to see more of Iris (Aliyah Royale) and Hope's (Alexa Mansour) struggle to try to free their dad from the Crm's clutches: October 3 on AMC, and earlier for AMC+ subscribers.
The news came out of the "World Beyond" panel during Comic-Con@Home, where we also got our first look at the new season. "Walking Dead" universe boss Scott M. Gimple also said the premiere will be followed by an episode of "Talking Dead," which is usually reserved for the main series. "Fear the Walking Dead" will also get a "Talking Dead" episode after its Season 7 premiere.
