Don't Breathe 2 has become a global Netflix hit. The movie is the No. 8 most-watched English-language movie on the platform this week. The movie's executive producer Fede lvarez could have a successful year between Don't Breathe 2 and his upcoming Alien: Romulus.

Don't Breathe 2 has become a global Netflix hit. The horror-thriller is a sequel to the 2016 horror hit, which followed a group of thieves breaking into the home of a vengeful blind man (Stephen Lang) with dark secrets. Original co-screenwriter Rodo Sayagues helmed the project, taking over for original director Fede lvarez, who remained on board as an executive producer. The Don't Breathe 2 cast sees Lang reprising his original role alongside a new ensemble that includes Brendan Sexton III, Madelyn Grace, and Adam Young.

Netflix has now calculated their global Top 10 most-watched English-language movies for the week of July 22 through July 28. Don't Breathe 2 has landed at No.

When clairvoyant social worker Claire (Michelle Krusiec – Hollywood) is handed a new child protection case, a young girl called Sophie (Madelyn Grace – Don’t Breathe 2), she notices the child is covered in scratches and bruises. This one is formerly known as The Uncanny. Rlje Films has posted this trailer for an indie horror thriller titled They Live in the Grey, which already premiered on Shudder earlier this year. We're just catching up with this one now as they prepare for a VOD / DVD release this summer. The story follows Claire who, while investigating a child abuse case, discovers that the family is being tormented by a supernatural entity. In order to save the family, she must confront her own fears and use her emerging clairvoyance to stop the malevolent force. The film stars Michelle Krusiec, Ken Kirby, and Madelyn Grace. It didn't get great reviews, but it still looks chilling. "The film's title is a brilliant play on the turmoil both the living and dead undergo during the two-hour runtime." It’s been nearly 5 years since we last saw The Blind Man (Stephen Lang) nearly take down an entire group of petty criminals in Don’t Breathe, and now he’s returned for more murder and mayhem for the appropriately-named sequel, Don’t Breathe 2, which finds Rodo Sayagues at the helm this time, taking over for Fede Alvarez. There’s no denying that the sequel doesn’t quite hit the same tension-fueled heights as the first, but there’s still quite a bit of b-movie brutality on display throughout Don’t Breathe 2, and I really enjoyed how this time around, the story shifts away from The Blind Man and becomes the story of a young girl (played by Madelyn Grace) who goes through hell and becomes her own hero along the way.

In 2016, Don’t Breathe introduced the world to the terrifying world of the Blind Man. Played by Stephen Lang, the violent vet turned his murderous survival instincts on a trio of burglars after they broke into his house in the hope of finding the money they needed to escape their depressing lives. As if his near-supernatural strength and ability to destroy flesh and bone weren’t enough, the final act of the movie revealed a grotesque secret.

At least, that’s the theory that Rodo Sayagues’ “Don’t Breathe 2” seems desperate to prove, despite an overwhelming lack of evidence to the contrary. “Don’t Breathe 2” may not be the first horror movie sequel to try to transform the monster into an antihero, but it’s hard to think of another one that whiffs it this hard.

The original “Don’t Breathe,” co-written by Sayagues and director Fede Alvarez, was a violent and mean-spirited horror thriller about a group of teenaged thieves who break into a rich blind man’s house, only to discover what he’s hiding isn’t money. “Don’t Breathe 2,” in which Stephen Lang once again portrays a furious blind Gulf War veteran who fends off a handful of intruders in brutal makeshift ways, is a worthy enough sequel to “Don’t Breathe” — and yes, that’s about half a compliment. The original, released in 2016, was a jacked-up home invasion thriller with horror elements, but as staged (with a classically angled cleverness) by the director Fede Alvarez, it stayed tethered to a certain nuts-and-bolts, drive-in-movie-from-the-past reality. The script was bare bones, but critics liked it in much the same way that they’d liked “The Bourne Identity” — for its analog “values,” which in this case came off as the values of a thriller made with garish ingenuity for the Times Square crowd in 1982. The inspiration for 2016’s low-budget sleeper hit “Don’t Breathe,” according to filmmaker Fede Alvarez, was to make a horror movie with an original storyline that used suspense in place of supernatural elements or excessive blood. In “Don’t Breathe 2,” the similarly deranged sequel, he has stayed true to those maxims, for the most part. There may be fewer truly gory moments in “Don’t Breathe 2” than in typical slasher fare, but they are just twisted enough to stick in the mind like a festering wound.

Once again employing the reverse home invasion tale, one in which the invaders hardly live long enough to wholly regret their choices, The movie’s grotesque twists may illicit more groans than gasps, but its slight sense of humor betrays a winking self-awareness. Alvarez, along with co-writer and director Rodo Sayagues, proves once again they know what genre lovers want — at least, a certain type of genre lover.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has released a new "Dark Af Restricted" red band trailer for Don't Breathe 2. Following through with that description, the trailer brings back Stephen Lang as Norman Nordstrom, aka the Blind Man, who once again winds up targeted by home invaders, and he's only gotten more sadistic since we last saw him in the first movie.
