- Tony Doc Shiels was born in 1938 in Salford, England. He was an actor, known for Brain Hacker (2014), The Loch Ness Monster: Hunting the Truth (2023) and The World's Greatest Hoaxes: Secrets Finally Revealed (1998). He was married to Christine. He died on July 11, 2024 in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland.

- Attended the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London.
- The events he was involved in during the 1970s and 1980s were covered in his own book, Monstrum, and in the 1996 book Owlman and Others by Jon Downes.
- Between 1970 and 1974, he performed as 'Doc Shiels: Wizard of the West' at festivals and fayres in Cornwall, UK. This, presented with the help of friend Vernon Rose and the rest of the Shiels family, was a magic show that incorporated illusions such as the headless woman, the sub-trunk and the buzz-saw.
- Later in life he published more magic books, including The Shiels Effect, Bizarre and The Cantrip Codex.
