SAG-AFTRA has rescinded its do-not-work order for the basic cable TV movie Keys to the City and says its members are now “free to work on this production effective immediately.” The union had originally ordered its members not to work on the movie because its production company had not completed the process of signing a SAG-aftra contract.
All that, however, has now been cleared up.
Set against the backdrop of an Atlanta mayoral race, the film’s predominantly African American cast includes Isaiah Washington, Felisha Cooper, Stephen Bishop and Kelsey Scott. It’s currently in pre-production in Atlanta.
The union issued the no-work order Thursday, instructing the telefim’s SAG-aftra members “to withhold any acting services for this production until further notice.” The union also noted that “accepting employment or rendering services on Keys to the City may be considered a violation of Global Rule One,” which states...

It's not a horror film itself, but a case could be made that the blood shed in Heathers flows as freely through the genre today as does that of the Dead trilogy or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's certainly splattered all over All Cheerleaders Die, a vision of the high school pecking order as bitter as the 1989 pre-Columbine bloodbath, but significantly less witty or humane. All cheerleaders may die, but they don't all leave much behind when they go.
After watching her friend Alexis (Felisha Cooper) killed in a cheerleading stunt gone wrong, Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) tries out for the squad when the new school year begins-and to the surprise of all involved, makes it on. She quickly befriends Tracy (Brooke Butler), who has already started dating Alexis’s old boyfriend team captain Terry (Tom Williamson), much to the chagrin of Maddy’s old girlfriend Leena (Sianoa Smit-McPhee). But Maddy has ulterior motives,...

Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge…and Zombies?
Based soley on the title of Lucky McKee’s (May, The Woods) All Cheerleaders Die, I had a kind of preternatural premonition that I would be enjoyin’ this one. Hell, based on that title, I can’t believe ol’ Lucky himself didn’t call yours cruelly and have him introduce the film like some sort of sexy William Castle (which totally could have happened if I was available, but of course my duties to the House that Fearsome Forry built have kept me too busy to make cameos).
So was my uncanny ability to completely judge whether I’ll like a movie or not based solely on its title still the stuff of legend,...

The first moments in “All Cheerleaders Die” are through the camera of Maddy (Caitlin Stasy), a conventionally-attractive girl who nonetheless apparently runs with the nerds. She insults queen bee cheerleader Lexi (Felisha Cooper) behind her back, while also slavishly following her and documenting her every move, her social status allowing her to hold a regal sway over the rest of the student body. Suddenly, during one routine, Lexi lands on her neck with a sickening snap, jolting the film to life. It's the first and very last surprise the movie has to offer. Maddy's plot involves worming her way into the cheerleaders' inner circle as well, the film cannily siding with the idea of bullying as a necessity to ward off stalking. Maddy, of course, doesn't believe that the death was accidental, but in investigating the group, she only uncovers a hotbed of infighting and jealousies between over-hormonal, magazine-ready teens,...

Alexis (Felisha Cooper) is head cheerleader and happy to share her knowledge and years of experience as one of the blessed with the less fortunate. Maddy (Caitlin Stasey) is one of those less fortunate, but when a horrific cheerleading accident leaves Alexis dead Maddy steps up and joins the squad. The remaining pom pom girls welcome her begrudgingly, but they don’t realize that she has an ulterior motive for climbing the social ladder. She’s planning to push someone off when she gets to the top. Maddy’s plans change somewhat when an altercation with the captain of the football team (Tom Williamson) leads to a car chase, a car crash and a quartet of dead cheerleaders. Maddy’s Wiccan ex (Sianoa Smit-McPhee) is having none of that though, and soon the four girls are brought back to (something resembling) life with a few caveats. They’re not actually alive, they...

It should come as no surprise to the astute horror fan that Lucky McKee has a knack for creating horrific women. Even a casual glance at his filmography, which includes the underrated The Woods, the shocking The Woman, and the still wonderful May, tells you this is a male filmmaker who is fascinated by "bad" female characters. (Mr. McKee also did a fine film about a man and his dog. It's called Red, but it's not pertinent to the "female" angle I'm employing here, so let's just move on.)
So what makes Lucky McKee tackling female-centric horror noteworthy this time around? McKee's latest, which he co-wrote and co-directed with his old friend Chris Sivertson (The Lost), is the funniest film of his career. May certainly displays some wonderful dark humor, but All Cheerleaders Die is a colorful, energetic, and appreciably unpredictable mash-up of The Craft, Tamara, and Carrie. Sorta.
