United Talent Agency is making changes to the leadership of its news and broadcasting department, the unit that negotiates on behalf of journalists and news personalities.
According to a memo sent to staff Tuesday by UTA vice-chairman Jay Sures and COO and co-head of UTA Sports Andrew Thau, the agency is elevating Ryan Hayden and Marc Paskin to be co-heads of its news and broadcasting department.
Peter Goldberg, who had led the department since 2017, will stay with the company as a partner and senior agent. Goldberg joined UTA in its acquisition of N.S. Bienstock, the agency that helped create the market for news and journalism talent under the leadership of the late Richard Leibner.
Paskin and Hayden will report to Sures in their new roles, with Hayden also continuing to oversee UTA Sports alongside Jerry Silbowitz, reporting in to Thau.

Now that ABC News has cleaned house, it probably needs to fill it back up.
Executives at the Disney news division — and its corporate parent — hoped to cut recent scrutiny by parting ways with Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, the co-anchors of early-afternoon program “GMA3” who also had a romantic relationship despite being married to other people. On Friday, the two sides broke up, so to speak, with ABC News President Kim Godwin telling staffers she hoped their departure would end a period of “distraction” at the home of “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.”
But Godwin and her team are likely to face a period of rebuilding.
Holmes and Robach leave ABC News as it needs to focus more closely on lining up a new tier of talent. Cecilia Vega, a Washington correspondent who frequently filled in for Robin Roberts on “GMA3,” recently left ABC News for a new role at “60 Minutes.

There will be lots of teams worth following this NFL season, be they the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the returning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. Even so, many people in the media business have their eyes on a very distinctive player: Amazon Prime Video.
The streamer, which once shared “Thursday Night Football” games with Fox, now has exclusive rights to that action and must convince some pigskin Luddites to plug into broadband. Streaming “Thursday Night Football,” after all, will require a different kind of remote — and familiarity with a home screen, not a cable box.
“It is going to be a behavioral shift for people,” acknowledges Jay Marine, VP of Prime Video and its global head of sports. “Our job is to make sure they are able to find ‘Thursday Night Football’ at its new home and make it as easy as possible to get into the Prime Video app and start streaming.

Update, with video Hayden Panettiere, largely absent from public view since Nashville ended in 2018, says she has struggled with alcoholism and postpartum depression in the years since the series went off the air.
In an exclusive Good Morning America and People magazine interview, Panettiere said today she “didn’t know where the alcoholism was ending and the postpartum was beginning.”
“I didn’t have any negative feelings towards my child,” Panettiere told ABC News’ Kaylee Hartung. “I just knew I was deeply depressed.” The actor said she found support only in “the bottom of a bottle.”
“People around me were more concerned about my usage of alcohol than they ever were about the postpartum depression,” she said, adding that she felt like she was “walking blind.”
“And I don’t like to ask for help either,” Panettiere said. “I wanna be that strong, stoic woman. But, I mean, when you...

Robin Roberts, one of the most familiar faces in morning-tv news, will start to co-anchor ABC’s “Good Morning America” from home, after a doctor recommended she do so due to her medical history and the nation’s continuing struggle with the spread of coronavirus
Roberts has no symptoms and is in good health, but has grappled in years past with myelodysplastic syndrome, a bone marrow disease, and took time off from the show in late 2012 and early 2013 for a bone-marrow transplant. “It’s hard to leave because you want the normalcy. You want it not just for yourself, but for your viewers,” Roberts said Tuesday in what will be her last broadcast for the time being from the Times Square Studios that house “Gma” production in New York. She added: “I’ll be able to keep my slippers on the whole morning.”

ABC, best known for soapy programs like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19,” has in recent days been more focused on the drama of real life.
In the past few days, the Walt Disney-owned broadcast network has pushed back its flagship late-night program, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (currently in repeats due to a shutdown in production) to make room for “Nightline,” the venerable newsmagazine that held the 11:30 p.m. slot for decades. It has suspended production of a daytime talk show co-moderated by the popular Michael Strahan in favor of a 1p.m. hard-news update. And it pre-empted primetime fare once in favor of a pop-up broadcast of the newsmagazine “20/20” focused on matters at hand.
Many TV networks have recalibrated programming to accommodate intense interest in the coronavirus pandemic. For broadcast networks, which serve the broadest U.S. audiences possible, the tactic can be difficult to put into action. Viewers...
