In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.
First up were Sally Lindsay, Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne, Alex Brooker, Konnie Huq and Ed Gamble. Next came Andi Oliver,...

Frankie Boyle tore into Matt Hancock and Keir Starmer during an appearance on The Last Leg.
The Scottish comedian joined Adam Hills,Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker to talk about the week’s events, which included the leaking of former health secretary Hancock’s private WhatsApp messages sent during the pandemic.
Hancock criticised journalist Isabel Oakeshott, who provided the messages after ghostwriting his book Pandemic Diaries. He called the action a “massive betrayal of trust”.
The messages have prompted yet another backlash against Hancock, with Boyle saying on Friday (3 March): “Even his hairline is trying to disown him.”
He called out Hancock’s decision to appear on ITV series I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, saying that he chose to lie in the ground “surrounded by worms” to try and make the country forget he had “killed their granny”.
Boyle was referring to Hancock’s response...

It takes many people to fill Richard Osman’s shoes, and not just because he wears a size 14. Back in April 2021, the TV presenter, producer and novelist announced that he was leaving his co-presenter role on Pointless to focus on his hugely successful Thursday Murder Club book series and other projects. Due to the ‘stars we see in the night sky are actually hundreds of years in the past’ nature of TV broadcast, by that point, Osman was already four months out of the job. His final episode of the regular Pointless (he’ll still appear on the celebrity editions) was filmed in December 2021 and aired in July 2022, with this touching message to Alexander Armstrong.
When Pointless returned for Series 28 in September 2022, it came with a rotating clutch of new guest-hosts sitting behind Osman’s fact-checking desk. First up was Sally Lindsay, and following her were Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne,...

Richard Osman has feigned outrage over the fact that the laptop in the Pointless studio actually works.
In April, the BBC announced that Osman had quit Pointless after almost 13 years.
The TV personality had presented the show since its very first episode in 2009 with Alexander Armstrong, with the latter now being joined by a rotating cast of co-presenters for the new series.
Coronation Street and Scott & Bailey star Sally Lindsay was the first celebrity to step into Osman’s shoes for last night’s episode (20 September), and she made use of a laptop in the studio to help her present.
Sharing an image of Lindsay using the computer, Osman – who was hardly seen going on the device during his years as host – tweeted: “Wait, the laptop Works Now????”
Lindsay later posted: “Thank you everyone (especially the legend @richardosman) for your comments and support regarding Pointless. It’s such a...

Ayoade and Essex, two very different kinds of men. Watching them try to converse can’t be unlike watching an owl try to mate with a suitcase. Having seen it now though, I just want more. Quick, someone commission a show in which the pair of them team up to fight crime or catch cowboy roofers or conduct a public vote for the nation’s best Center Parcs. Whatever it is, I know I wouldn’t be able to look away.

The Crystal Maze is back with a new Maze Master, a new Futuristic Zone, and all the fun of the original...
You can question TV’s current Rosebud-like obsession with stuff that used to make us happy as kids all you like; the truth is that watching Richard Ayoade being wry to people dressed like ghostbusters is just good medicine. Watching Richard Ayoade in salmon pink corduroy being wry to minor celebrities dressed like ghostbusters is excellent medicine.

Wow! The Last Leg presenter Adam Hills got into the spirit of Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer telethon by shaving his head.
Viewers were asked to vote on how they would like the show to finish, either with diehard Arsenal fan Alex Brooker wearing a Spurs football shirt, Greg Davies weightlifting Josh Widdicombe or Hills shaving his head.
Looking good @adamhillscomedy! #su2c #standuptocancer pic.twitter.com/PpDV5ZQmdP
— The Last Leg (@TheLastLeg) October 9, 2015
The poll was announced at the end of the show as 11% for the Spurs shirt, 23% for Greg's weightlifting and an overwhelming 66% voted in favour of Hills going bald.
Quick to pick up the clippers were Brooker and guest Russell Howard, who didn't take long to shear Hills of his thick head of hair.
The impact seemed to dawn on the comedian, who shrieked: "What have I done? What have I done?!"
Thanks for watching...

Alex Brooker has hit out at Twitter for failing to protect its users after he was called a "cripple" on the site.
Speaking to Digital Spy to promote Scope's End The Awkward campaign, Brooker suggested that the social network needs to start tackling abuse more strongly.
"I do believe that the people who run Twitter really need to get a hold of it soon and start really enforcing some rules on it, because at the moment you can just say anything to anyone," he said.
"I had a guy call me a 'cripple' after I was on A League of Their Own. I reported that to Twitter and they said it wasn't against their rules. And then they said, 'If you disagree with this, please give further evidence'. I basically explained to them who I was, what I did - bearing in mind that I'm a verified account as well...

The BBC licence fee is always a hot topic, and culture secretary John Whittingdale will face questions about it during this year's Edinburgh International TV Festival.
The Conservative MP will also take questions about the BBC's charter renewal and Channel 4's future amid rumours of its privatisation, in a one-on-one interview with journalist Alastair Stewart.
"We are delighted that the new culture secretary is coming to the TV Festival in its 40th anniversary year," said Guardian Edinburgh TV Festival advisory chair Zai Bennett.
"There are few MPs more knowledgeable about the media than John Whittingdale, and I'm sure the industry will be excited to hear his views on issues ranging from the impending charter renewal, to discussions on privatisation. This really is a session not to be missed."
The government recently denied it has plans to sell off Channel 4 following Ofcom's third review of public service broadcasting, which is currently under way.

Best known as one of the trio leading The Last Leg, Josh Widdicombe gets back to the day job with a new stand-up tour this autumn.
The comedian plays over 40 dates across the UK on his What Do I Do Now... tour from September 10 to December 20. Full details are available here.
"Since he's been away from stand-up, Josh has been working hard on other things... but don't worry. In his spare time he has found a lot of minor things to get annoyed about, and now he has a chance to talk about them on stage (in the form of jokes)," said promoters.
"If you have seen him before live or on TV and enjoyed yourself, then this is the show for you. If you didn't like him, then it probably isn't."
Before then, Widdicombe reunites with Adam Hills and Alex Brooker for a trio of Last Leg specials ahead of the 2015 General Election.

Since that glorious summer of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, presenters Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker have provided a sideways look at the week’s news. Hills’ razor-sharp diatribes quickly became a regular feature, combining the show’s characteristic irreverent humour with a refreshing perspective on events both local and global.
Nobody has been spared. Teen pop idols. Professional golfers. Self-righteous atheists. Even fellow comedians. Spanning two years and five series, Hills’ outbursts have grappled with the most divisive issues of the day – from allegations of corruption against FIFA, to countries that just can’t get along.
With a sixth series set to air next month, a reflection on the most scathing – and hilarious – incidents so far seems long overdue. Strap in for five glorious rounds of wit, rage and repeated requests for the population to cease behaving like phalli.
Warning: contains strong language.

The Jump has been praised by Channel 4's chief creative officer Jay Hunt.
Speaking to The Guardian, Hunt explained that she is keen to renew the celebrity winter sports show for a second series.
The show, hosted by Davina McCall and Alex Brooker, saw a number of famous faces taking part in games such as bobsleigh, skating and skiing, with Joe McElderry named the eventual winner.
The series - filmed in Austria - was plagued with injuries, as stars including Sir Steve Redgrave, Marcus Brigstocke, Melinda Messenger and Henry Conway were forced to pull out of the competition.
However, Hunt has now explained that she believes the show was "the first time [Channel 4 has] had a big pre-watershed hit for quite a long time".
"It's hard to think what is our pre-watershed tone of voice," she said. "There is a gravitational pull at [Channel] 4 towards the edgy, the difficult and the rude.
