Disney continues to toast its centennial with a new fashion collaboration. Tommy Hilfiger is the latest brand to put its stylish spin on the House of the Mouse with a college prep-meets-manga collection as part of the 100 Years of Wonder celebration.

TikTok‘s latest trends forecast is here, and for 2023, it’s predicting users will dig three things: “actionable entertainment,” “making space for joy,” and “community-built ideals.”

This is TikTok’s third trends report—an annual tool “designed to help marketers understand how consumers’ wants and needs will change in the upcoming year and what that will mean for their strategies, both on and off TikTok,” according to the platform.

TikTok’s three predicted trends for 2023 are based on overall user activity from 2022.

“2022 was the year people realized they didn’t have to live their lives as they always have done—with different points of view and ideas transcending cultures on TikTok,” Sofia Hernandez, TikTok’s global head of business marketing, said in a statement. “Next year we’re going to see more of this—as our communities get more confident and inspire positive change together.”

“Dramaworld,” a pioneering Korean-American rom-com series, will debut on in the U.S. on IMDb TV, Amazon’s premium free streaming service, from this weekend.

Seasons one and two will both debut on IMDb TV from Feb. 12, 2022, with the launch marking the U.S. premiere of season two. The first season of “Dramaworld” originally debuted on Netflix and Viki.

The series follows an American girl who is obsessed with K-drama and is underwhelmed by her real life become catapulted into the world of the Korean dramas she obsesses over. There she meets a facilitator who keeps “Dramaworld” turning through deft but undetected intervention in each storyline. She tumbles headfirst into another show starring her K-drama crush but upsets the equilibrium of “Dramaworld” by kissing her hero.

Season two sees the return of leads Liv Hewson, Sean Dulake (“Operation Chromite”), Justin Chon and Nuri Bae (“Unstoppable”).

A second season of bilingual series “Dramaworld” takes to the airwaves across Asia from this week. The show is a fantasy about an American K-drama fan-girl who is supernaturally transported into the Korean drama scene and there must save her favorite leading man.

In Korea itself “Dramaworld” will play from Friday on A+E Networks’ Lifetime Korea channel and on the Cj Enm-backed streamer TVing. In Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia it will play out on the international service of Chinese streamer iQIYI, while in Japan its home will be the country’s number three streamer U-Next.

In its first iteration, as a web drama with mini episodes, the show played from 2016 on Netflix and the Rakuten-owned streamer Viki.

Now presented as a long-form drama, the series was written by Josh Billig and Chris Martin, with Martin directing all episodes. Production was through Korean-American company Third Culture Content and Raemongraein a.

Securing Endeavor Content to represent a second season of a cross-cultural fantasy rom-com four years after the show’s debut was good news for “Dramaworld” and its producer, Korean-American company Third Culture Content.

So, too, was the attachment of major talent, including Daniel Dae Kim, Henry Lau, and feted Korean actor Ha Ji-won.

But, arguably, the greater triumph was managing to produce the show this spring. It was a time when Covid-19 was expanding from epidemic to pandemic, and most other film and TV series were going on hiatuses of unknown duration.

Award-winning production house Third Culture Content has completed production on a second season of the cult hit “Dramaworld”, a bilingual rom-com adventure series set in the world of Korean drama, filmed on location in South Korea.

Season two sees the return of leads Liv Hewson, Sean Dulake (Operation Chromite) and Justin Chon and the addition of notable new cast members: Daniel Dae Kim, Brett Gray (“On My Block”), K-Pop star Henry Lau, Ha Ji-won along with a host of cameos from the biggest names in K-pop and K-drama. Endeavor Content is selling the project and will handle distribution for both seasons one and two.

To be completely honest, I’ve never been a big subscriber to the Chinese brand on VFX-heavy fantasy films. Not only do they, for the most part, miss their mark in the story-telling department, the VFX often feels excessively used and frankly, unpleasant to the eye at times. It is, thus, with increased trepidation that I approached Teddy Chen’s new feature “Double World”, which is based on the popular online Chinese video game Zhengtu.

A reimagined ancient China is the setting of the story, where the otherwise warring regions Northern Yan and Southern Zhao have known peace for a number of years, which now seems to be coming to an end. When a plot to assassinate the young king of Southern Zhao is foiled, the kingdom’s Grand Tutor Guan proposes to hold a tournament to choose the Kingdom army’s Grand Field Martial, a tradition that’s been dead since the peace.

Like so many 2020 films, Double World was slated for a major theatrical release this summer. But due to the pandemic, it has become one of the first big films to jump online in some hopes of recouping its costs. It’s a shame because Double World is the kind of film that was made for the big screen. It opens a spectacular new fantasy world, brimming with ravishing visuals. Haven’t heard of it? Don’t feel bad. It’s from China. Had 2020 gone as planned, Double World might have had a limited North American theatrical release at best, but now we can see it on Netflix.

Chinese movie “Double World” will forgo a theatrical premiere in favor of a simultaneous online debut on Netflix and China’s streaming service iQiyi.

The news comes as China’s cinemas have yet to offer a timeline for reopening despite nearly six months of closures.

The film will stream via iQiyi in China on July 24. It will debut on Netflix, which is blocked in China, for all the other territories the platform operates in on July 25, the company confirmed Wednesday to Variety.

The first A Dog’S Purpose was a gooey, family-friendly tear-jerker, but this 50-something dog-lover fell right into its heartfelt paws and it ended up on my top ten list of 2017’s best films. It told the story of one devoted dog who discovers the meaning of his own existence by dropping dead every half hour or so (after his life has run its course) and becoming reincarnated as a newborn pup with a diverse series of new owners. You know things are bad for women in Hollywood when there’s one female dog featured in canine cutefest “A Dog’s Journey,” and it still gets to be voiced by Josh Gad. That is, admittedly, an unavoidable consequence of this family franchise’s curious Buddhism-for-beginners premise: the idea that one mind and soul can be carried through the bodies of multiple mutts over the course of eternity, with Gad as our perky spiritual ferry through repeated rounds of Rover reincarnation. As if to compensate, Gail Mancuso’s blandly agreeable sequel to the boy-focused 2017 hit “A Dog’s Purpose” reorients its human narrative around a young woman’s troubled road to love and self-fulfilment — via the trusty companionship of various devoted pups.

That aside, fans of the first film will be delighted to find the formula pretty much untweaked, with a steady stream of corn-syrup sentiment binding what would otherwise...

There is apparently a sizable overlap between people who like films in which cute dogs scamper around happily, and people who like films in which cute dogs drop dead every half an hour. In 2017, “A Dog’s Purpose” catered to both groups by telling the tale of Bailey, whose soul transmigrates into the body of a newborn pup whenever he dies. He is granted a different name, breed, and (sometimes) gender with each metempsychosis, but his enthusiastic thoughts are always voiced by Josh Gad, and he retains his loyalty to his favorite master, Ethan, played in the film’s later scenes by Dennis Quaid.

Critics agreed that “A Dog’s Purpose” was, well, a dog, but Bailey, who can recall his past lives, is back in the sequel, “A Dog’s Journey”.

Again, it is a glossily nostalgic and moralistic Nicholas Sparks-style melodrama co-written by W. Bruce Cameron, and adapted from his novel.

Amblin Partners has begun principal photography on A Dog’s Purpose sequel, A Dog’s Journey with Dennis Quaid and Josh Gad returning to reprise their roles from the original. Co-financed and co-produced by Walden Media and Alibaba Pictures, A Dog’s Journey is set for domestic release via Universal on May 17, 2019. Korea’s Cj Entertainment has announced a raft of deals on Final Recipe, starring Henry Lau from the Asian pop group Super Junior – M and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).

The film sold to Spain (Kiss), Italy (Officine), Middle East (Gulf Film), Switzerland (Praesens Film), German-speaking Europe excluding Switzerland (Viz Media), and ex-Yugo (Discovery).

Directed by Gina Kim (Never Forever), the family drama is a Korea-Singapore-Thailand co-production about a young man who gets into an international cooking competition.

The film made its world premiere in San Sebastian’s Culinary Zinema section and played in the Berlinale’s Kulinarisches Kino program.

Fortissimo handles European sales while Cj handles the rest of the world.
