Not only do Disney have a second season of The Santa Clauses being released this holiday season, they also have a handful of new festive movies coming too. The first of which is Dashing Through the Snow.
Ludacris plays a divorced social worker who despises Christmas after a painful childhood memory but has to spend Christmas Eve on a call with his daughter and a man who very much loves Christmas.
I think this movie’s biggest problem is that it seems to try to have several different stories run alongside each other, with the lead one just being ‘daughter tries to convince her Dad that Christmas is a happy time of year’. There are some weird subplots here that of course involve Santa and reindeer,...

In 1982, Alex Lewis woke up from a three-month coma and couldn't remember anything or anyone—except for his twin brother, Marcus. All of a sudden the keeper of his sibling's memories, Marcus Lewis took the opportunity to try to protect Alex from remembering their shared truth. In turn he started piecing together a happier past for Alex. The documentary Tell Me Who I Am, now streaming on Netflix, features the British brothers reckoning with the motorcycle crash that stripped an 18-year-old Alex of his identity, the trust he put in Marcus, the lies Marcus told him, and the reality they ultimately both had to confront. The Lewis twins previously told their story in a 2013 book of the...

There have been any number of films about the invention of self-identity — about how, as Kurt Vonnegut might put it, people are who they pretend to be. It was a universal phenomenon long before the likes of Jay Gatsby turned it into an American pastime, or the internet made us all into avatars of ourselves; the ability to refract one’s own image is an intrinsic part of the human experience, even (or especially) when it’s expressed through subconscious forces like denial, repression, and personal bias.
Far less common, however, are films that explore the nature and ethics of inventing an identity for someone else; from “Gaslight” to “Memento,” most of the more obvious examples hinge on clear sociopathy or the sort of memory failures that you only tend to see in the movies. And yet, this is something we do to each other all the time in real life,...

"I have been lying for 20 years..." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary titled Tell Me Who I Am, made by doc director Ed Perkins. This initially premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, and is next playing at the London Film Festival. What if every memory that haunts you could be erased, or even rewritten? This is the ethical dilemma that Marcus Lewis faced when his identical twin Alex awakened after a motorcycle accident and Marcus was the only person Alex recognized. With no memories at all, Alex relied entirely on his brother as he tried to understand who he was. Tell Me Who I Am is a very heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful voyage that explores the blurred boundaries of memory and reality, and emotional bonds that allow us to survive. This looks like a remarkably fascinating doc about figuring out who we really are. Here's the official...
