Pradipta Bhattacharya is an award-wining filmmaker, scriptwriter, and editor, who works on a number of cinematic genres. Beginning his career in creative industries as a Graphic and Interactive CD Designer, he moved to filmmaking soon after. He did a certificate course in Multimedia and Web Technology, from MTDRC, School of Education Technology, Jadavpur University and Zee Interactive Learning Systems, 2001; and Post Graduate Diploma in Cinema with specialization in Editing from Roopkala Kendro, Kolkata (An Indo-Italian Institute for Film and Social Communication), 2002-2004. His creative projects in the role of the director include five full-length feature films (including telefilms), seven short fiction films, four documentaries and one animation film. His films are pathbreaking and received critical acclaims from the audience, media and critics. Bakita Byaktigato/ The Rest is Personal, a Bengali language feature that he wrote and directed, received the 61st National Film Award for the best film in Bengali in 2013. His films have been curated in a number of festivals and programmes in India and abroad. For example, Bakita Byaktigato/ The Rest is Personal was included Indian Film Festival, Habitat Centre, New Delhi, Various festivals in U.S.A. and Japan including Seattle, Denver, Texas, Tokyo, Trichur International Film Festival, Delhi International Film Festival, Darpan Film Festival, Singapore, Mangalore Film Festival, Liberating Cinema Series- Saint Andrews University, Scotland. His short feature Dheu/The Waves was curated in Kerala International Short Film Festival 2015, Mumbai International Film Festival 2016, Kolkata International Film Festival, 2016, Edinburgh Indian Film Festival 2017 , San Mauro International Film Festival, Italy 2018, Culture-Y Film Festival 2017, Scotland. Other than receiving the National award in 2013, for Bakita Byaktigato/ The Rest is Personal, he also received award for the best director, and best film for Kotha Theke Je Kee Hoye Galo/ How Did It All Happen? and Pinky I Love You in Protidin Tele Awards, 2008 and 2009. These two films also received the best actor award. His short fiction film, Biswas Nao Korte Paren/ You Maynot Believe it (2007) also received critical acclaim; it received the best Indian film title in the 4th Kalpanirjhar International Short Fiction Film Festival, 2007; was one of the two best short films in Sony Pix Short Film Festival, 2008 organized by and telecasted in Sony Pix Channel, 2008, received the title of the best Film under 30 min, Fulmarxx International Shorts Festival, Ahmedabad, 2008 along with the award for the best Film of the festival (all categories) and the best Editing. His latest feature film, Rajlaxmi and Shrikanta (inspired by Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay's novel) for which he did the story, script, editing, and direction, is completed and waiting to be released in 2019. He is also engaged in teaching of filmmaking and organising film-festivals. He conducts regular classes and workshops on editing for young filmmakers.
