Aise Hee (Just Like That), directed by Kislay is a brilliant film that is quiet, moving, deep, surprising, and in the end, inspiring. It is the tale of an older woman challenging expectations of who she is supposed to be in her later years. Mrs. Sharma is the quiet ‘ideal’ wife of a government official living in a modest two-story house in the small town of Allahabad. When her husband suddenly dies, she is expected to follow Indian customs and move in with her son and grandchildren, but she has other plans. Mrs. Sharma wants, at long last, to explore her life and try new experiences, including meeting Sugandhi, a hairdresser, and Ali, a tailor who teaches her how to embroider. This soon starts the neighbours gossiping, resulting in family tensions that soon threaten to curtail her newfound freedoms. No spoilers from me! You will have to watch this fabulous movie to find out.

On the occasions of Bhasmasur screening at Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival, we speak with him about the inspiration behind the movie, Rajasthan and India in general, the role of women in the country, his cooperation with the cast and crew, and other topics.
What was the inspiration behind Bhasmasur? In general where do you draw inspiration from for your movies?
Bhasmasur was primarily inspired by an article I had read in a daily. I did not think it would translate into a film. After a meek attempt at making a three-minute short on the same,...

"He's not here again today, Maharaj." This looks disgusting. The first teaser trailer has debuted online for a film from India titled Garbage, the latest from controversial filmmaker Qaushiq Mukherjee, known as "Q" (who last directed Brahman Naman). The film is about a taxi driver in the city of Goa named Phanishwar, played by Tanmay Dhanania, who is an angry internet troll and maniac that keeps a woman as a slave in his apartment. One day he meets a new woman, and becomes her driver, whilst secretly stalking her online. Also starring Trimala Adhikari, Satarupa Das, Gitanjali Dang, and Shruti Viswan. This is the kind of weird film that is going to be upsetting to some, but possibly intriguing to others. It just premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this week, and is trying to find distribution. Watch out - this teaser is definitely Nsfw. Here's the first Nsfw teaser trailer (+ poster) for Q's Garbage,...

Writer-Director: Manav Kaul, Cinematographer: Sachin Kabir, Editor: Radhey Lalsa, Cast: Kumud Mishra, Trimala Adhikari, Suraj Kabadwal, Abhay Joshi
Manav Kaul’s Hansa is a deceptively simple tale of an adolescent boy and his sister in a Himalayan village caught amidst the sudden boom of tourism industry. Kaul powerfully exposes the greed, lust and politics of the village without letting them dominate the plot. Hansa never lets its adorable leads Hansa and Chikoo out of sight and that’s where the strength of the film lies.
The picture postcard village of Hansa is falling apart. Sudden boost in tourism has stripped the village of its humanity; and greed and lust reign supreme here. The nexus between a middleman Lohni (Abhay Joshi) and Bijju da (Kumud Mishra) has been usurping villagers’ homes and plots to set up resorts. The spectre of dispossession and displacement looms large over Hansa’s family after his father’s sudden disappearance.
